Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In preparing this translation for publication certain minor modifications and additions have been introduced into the original Russian text, in order to increase its readibility and usefulness. Thus, instead of the first person, the third person has been used throughout; wherever possible footnotes have been included with the main text. The chapters and their subsections of the Russian edition have been renamed parts and chapters respectively and the last have been numbered consecutively. An authors and subject index has been added. In particular, the former has been combined with the list of references of the original text, in order to enable the reader to find quickly all information on anyone reference in which he may be especially interested. This has been considered most important with a view to the difficulties experienced outside Russia in obtaining references, published in that country. Russian names have been printed in Russian letters in the authors index, in order to overcome any possible confusion arising from transliteration.

Book excerpt: This volume presents the proceedings of a colloquium inspired by the former President of the French Mathematical Society, Michel Herve. The aim was to promote the development of mathematics through applications. Since the ancient supports the new, it seemed appropriate to center the theoretical conferences on new subjects. Since the world is movement and creation, the theoretical conferences were planned on mechanics (movement) and bifurcation theory (creation). Five aspects of mechanics were to be presented, but, unfortunately, it has not been possible to include the statis tical mechanics aspect. So that only four aspects are presented: Classical mechanics (Hamiltonian, Lagrangian, Poisson) (W.N. Tulczyjew, J .E. l-lhite, C.M. MarIe). - Quantum mechanics (in particular the passage from the classi cal to the quantum approach and the problem of finding the explicit solution of Schrodinger's equation)(M. Cahen and S. Gutt, J. Leray). Fluid mechanics (meaning problems involving partial differ ential equations. One of the speakers we hoped would attend the conference was in Japan at the time, however his lecture is presented in these proceedings.) (J.F. Pommaret, H.I-l. Shi) - Mathematical "information" theory (S. Guiasll) Traditional physical arguments are characterized by their great homogeneity, and mathematically expressed by the compactness prop erty. In such cases, there is a kind of duality between locality and globality, which allows the use of the infinitesimal in global considerations.

Book excerpt: Boundary Value Problems is a translation from the Russian of lectures given at Kazan and Rostov Universities, dealing with the theory of boundary value problems for analytic functions. The emphasis of the book is on the solution of singular integral equations with Cauchy and Hilbert kernels. Although the book treats the theory of boundary value problems, emphasis is on linear problems with one unknown function. The definition of the Cauchy type integral, examples, limiting values, behavior, and its principal value are explained. The Riemann boundary value problem is emphasized in considering the theory of boundary value problems of analytic functions. The book then analyzes the application of the Riemann boundary value problem as applied to singular integral equations with Cauchy kernel. A second fundamental boundary value problem of analytic functions is the Hilbert problem with a Hilbert kernel; the application of the Hilbert problem is also evaluated. The use of Sokhotski's formulas for certain integral analysis is explained and equations with logarithmic kernels and kernels with a weak power singularity are solved. The chapters in the book all end with some historical briefs, to give a background of the problem(s) discussed. The book will be very valuable to mathematicians, students, and professors in advanced mathematics and geometrical functions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates several classes of partial differential equations of real time variable and complex spatial variables, including the heat, Laplace, wave, telegraph, Burgers, Black-Merton-Scholes, Schrödinger and Korteweg-de Vries equations. The complexification of the spatial variable is done by two different methods. The first method is that of complexifying the spatial variable in the corresponding semigroups of operators. In this case, the solutions are studied within the context of the theory of semigroups of linear operators. It is also interesting to observe that these solutions preserve some geometric properties of the boundary function, like the univalence, starlikeness, convexity and spirallikeness. The second method is that of complexifying the spatial variable directly in the corresponding evolution equation from the real case. More precisely, the real spatial variable is replaced by a complex spatial variable in the corresponding evolution equation and then analytic and non-analytic solutions are sought. For the first time in the book literature, we aim to give a comprehensive study of the most important evolution equations of real time variable and complex spatial variables. In some cases, potential physical interpretations are presented. The generality of the methods used allows the study of evolution equations of spatial variables in general domains of the complex plane.

Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the authors' pioneering contributions to nonlinear set-valued analysis by topological methods. The coverage includes fixed point theory, degree theory, the KKM principle, variational inequality theory, the Nash equilibrium point in mathematical economics, the Pareto optimum in optimization, and applications to best approximation theory, partial equations and boundary value problems.Self-contained and unified in presentation, the book considers the existence of equilibrium points of abstract economics in topological vector spaces from the viewpoint of Ky Fan minimax inequalities. It also provides the latest developments in KKM theory and degree theory for nonlinear set-valued mappings.
