Il se situe dans le cadre de l'évaluation précoce à l'intérieur de laquelle la composante pragmatique et le courant interactionniste prennent une place importante. Nous avons choisi un outil clinique américain, « l'Echelle de Langage du Nourrisson et du Petit Enfant de Rossetti », qui permet la mise en place d'une évaluation fonctionnelle. Cet outil étudie la communication générale de l'enfant à travers six domaines développementaux : l'interaction et l'attachement, la pragmatique, la gestuelle, le jeu, le langage réceptif et le langage expressif. Nous avons effectué la passation sur six enfants français âgés de 21 à 24 mois et, comme le test n'était pas étalonné en France, nous avons réalisé des comparaisons avec un questionnaire parental: l'Inventaire Français du développement Communicatif. Le cadre méthodologique de l'évaluation repose sur l'utilisation de la vidéo et la réalisation de transcriptions. Nous avons également effectué une lecture théorique de l'outil pour permettre une meilleure lisibilité. Cette méthode d'évaluation et de passation a mis en évidence une vision globale des performances communicatives des enfants et a permis l'analyse des interactions. Il serait intéressant de poursuivre l'étude de cet outil et d'offrir un étalonnage pour la population française.

La première année de vie marque une période fonctionnellement charnière dans le développement de l'enfant et le prépare notamment au langage. Ainsi, un enfant qui ne parle pas inquiète son entourage et nécessite d'être évalué par un professionnel de la petite enfance tel que l'orthophoniste. Cependant, afin de prendre en charge ces enfants d'âge pré-linguistique, les professionnels de santé ont peu d'outils à disposition. C'est pourquoi notre étude s'est intéressée à un nouveau test, quasiment inconnu en France : l'échelle de langage du nourrisson et du petit enfant de Rossetti. Nous l'avons traduite et administrée à une population de vingt-six jeunes enfants francophones et anglophones, âgés de 9 à 12 mois. En corrélant les résultats des deux populations, nous avons pu valider la traduction de cette échelle pour la tranche d'âge 9-12 mois. Ce mémoire propose donc un nouvel outil de dépistage précoce du langage et de la communication, à l'adresse de tous ceux qui sont confrontés à de très jeunes enfants dont le langage ou les capacités de communication pourraient être perturbés.
