Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leaving Dorian is a story about finding hope and embracing the unknown, as recounted by domestic violence survivor Linda Dynel. This fast paced, riveting memoir takes the reader with Ms. Dynel on every step of her journey; from hurriedly throwing her children's clothes into garbage bags and gathering the weapons that her husband had stockpiled to protect his family during the Apocalypse that he was sure was coming with the New Millennium, to moving back in with her equally as imbalanced mother, which at the time she believed to be her only reasonable means of escape. "My purpose in writing Leaving Dorian was primarily to educate. The questions that were asked of me when I finally escaped are the very same questions that are asked over and over again by loved ones, lawyers and co-workers of victims. "If it was so bad, why didn't you call the police? Why did you keep having children with him? How could you just let him push you around/yell at you/hit you like that? Why didn't you fight back? How could you let your children live like that? Why didn't you leave sooner?" My hope is that by bringing the reader into my violent marriage, as well as allowing the reader to examine my upbringing and the way in which I ended up meeting and eventually marrying "Dorian," I can help the reader to understand not only how abuse starts but also how it is successfully carried out against the victim. Domestic violence is perhaps the most misunderstood of all crimes that law enforcement and social service agencies deal with on a daily basis, as it's not about poor anger management skills, substance abuse or economic stressors. Domestic violence is about one person's belief that they are entitled to have complete control over another human being. It is my sincerest hope that Leaving Dorian will enable those in the mental health and counseling professions, as well as loved ones of victims, to gain an entirely new and fresh perspective on what a victim of domestic violence really grapples with every day. It is only through education and understanding that we will ever, as a society, put an end to the erroneous thought processes that allow domestic violence to continue to flourish."

Praise for Lupari Werewolf Hunter. Highly recommended!" - Chris Turner, author of Denibus Ar and many other fantasy, adventure, and science fiction novels. "If you are a fan of werewolf fiction, this series is a must-read. Ference's writing and ability to spin a powerful tale is top notch." - Nickel Crow, author of Master of the Hunt "The visceral action scenes Ference writes will leave your heart pounding" - Toneye Eyenot, author of Blood Moon Big Top and Wolvz: Whispers of War Sage Holdsworth is a gifted painter with a terrible secret. One thing Sage cannot conceal is her infatuation with the handsome and charismatic Dorian Gray. Sage creates a lifelike painting of Dorian and a small wolf pup, but there is more to the painting than meets the eye. As Dorian unlocks his inherent darkness, a werewolf is spawned that begins killing in the streets of London. The lycanthrope turns to killing Dorian's enemies, but who is the real monster here? Sage never imagined her passion would give birth to a vicious monster that could cost her everything. Can Dorian and Sage save their souls? Or will the beast consume them all? This is the first book in The Wolf of Dorian Gray series: A Werewolf Spawned by the Evil of Man (Book 1) Purgatoryof the Werewolf (Book 2) Lupări: Werewolf Hunter (Book 3) "Rarely does romance and revenge intersect so pleasurably and delicately, forming a dance of passion and purpose that embraces a soul search and a confrontation between choices of salvation and sin." - Midwest Book Review "A delectable page turner. An excellent debut by Brian Ference. Full of excitement, anticipation, and rich scenery." - Pavan ★★★★★ "It has something for everyone with action, romance, and mystery." - Rachel ★★★★★ "Ference's debut puts a twist on Oscar Wilde's classic The Portrait of Dorian Gray, adding the dimension of a wild beast. The arrangement smoothly parallels the original...Victorian gentleman Dorian remains stunningly handsome after his youthful self is captured by an exceptionally talented artist in an eerily powerful painting. However, Dorian is not alone in this portrait; also depicted is a wolf cub, and after the painting is hidden away, the wolf is the one to change. A element of intense violence is added to this version, and there are some gender swaps, but the plot of a young man led astray into lusty debauchery remains the same. Passions and betrayals abound. Ference lifts some lines from Wilde's text and adds his own gift for description: 'Flowers, bright in sapphire blue and crimson reds, sang out from every corner of the ornately decorated room.'" - Publishers Weekly "There on my desk is the first passionate love-letter which I have ever composed in my life--and it is addressed to a dead girl." "The wolf had begun hunting human prey. They were plentiful in the dark city streets and provided enough good meat to satiate his gnawing hunger. He was still very careful not to let any who saw him live. To do otherwise would displease the Master. He would only stalk those people that were foolish enough to walk alone in the night." "The engorged moon hung full and low in the sky like a yellow skull. Misshapen clouds stretched across the floating orb with elongated hands and bony fingers grasping. As they neared the docks, the gas lamps grew fewer and the streets gloomier. The cobblestones blackened as they passed the deserted brickfields. Bottle-shaped kilns spat their outrage with orange tongues of fire into the cooling air. Mangy dogs snarled in hunger and wandering sea-gulls screamed their displeasure at the hansom's passage." This book was released on 2012-07-26 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul? If you could drink, smoke, and eat as much as you wanted and see no change in your appearance, would you indulge? If you could cheat, steal, and even murder without any consequences, would you do it? What would you sacrifice for eternal youth and beauty? Is your soul too much of a price to pay? With The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde weaves a tale of love, betrayal, murder, and revenge that delves into all these questions and more. When Dorian sees a portrait of himself and becomes aware of his own intense youth and beauty, he proclaims that he would give anything to preserve his looks and let the portrait grow old instead. This simple wish uttered in a moment of passion changes his life forever. As the portrait grows old over time and bears the marks of Dorian’s bad habits and cruelty, his innocent and youthful face never changes. As he sets out on a mission to experience every type of pleasure that the world has to offer, he discovers that he can get away with anything. Even murder. The Picture of Dorian Gray is Oscar Wilde’s only novel. When it was first released, its homoerotic undertones and harsh criticism of strict Victorian morality made it wildly controversial. The novel was even used as evidence against Wilde when he was tried for “gross indecency.” Today it is considered classic literature and often read in high school and college English classes. The book’s themes, as well as the author himself, continue to intrigue readers. Wilde challenges people to look at the way they live their lives and question their happiness. Are they freely pursuing happiness or constricting their personal growth by repressing their desires? Although written over 100 years ago, the story’s intrigue still holds up and even manages to deliver quite a few shocking moments. As Dorian plunges into the grimy underworld of Victorian London, he does things that many people would condemn in public while secretly wishing that they could do the same. Perhaps this is why The Picture of Dorian Gray has been adapted into numerous movies. There is nothing sweeter than forbidden fruit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his study of negative existence and how it affects James Joyce's principal characters, Gian Balsamo joins the ongoing debate about the Irish writer's relationship to Dante and considers the centrality of messianism to that relationship. Finding in Dante a negative poetics that becomes a model for Joyce, Balsamo suggests that the inception and cessation of life - two occurrences that conventionally are deemed impossible to experience personally and directly - typically frame the existential experiences of Joyce's main characters. Balsamo perceives Stephen, Leopold, and Shem as messianic figures because they rebel against this convention, clustering their lives around the very events of inception and burial. Balsamo traces the engagement of each of the three characters in a negative existence immune from the rules and limitations of ordinary experience. Each struggles to express rather than exorcise the fecundity of his own mortality; each reinvents his biography as involving the pivotal transaction of one death - be it a mother's, a son's, or even that of his own body - in return for catharsis. Durkheim, and Noam Chomsky, Balsamo challenges the current debate by identifying the messianic thread that ties together the biographies of Joyce's three characters. Faced with the fissure between history and poetic vocation, Stephen embraces the sacrificial poetry of silence. Faced with the domestic squalor provoked by the loss of his son, Leopold renews at every meal the cathartic exchange of food and semen. Faced with a destiny of death and decomposition, Shem reenacts the tradition of the medieval cycle drama, stretching his own body like a parchment on a cross and then rubricating it like a sacred manuscript.

However, all is not what it seems...Dorian expresses the desire to sell his soul, to ensure that the picture, rather than he, will age andfade. A must-read for children and adults alike! The novel is a social satire as well as a key explorer of Victorian norms. We are made to observe human emotions like love, jealousy, hate and the forces of evil and good. Oscar Wilde propagates his ‘art for art’s sake’ theory, even as he weaves a narrative around a beautiful young man (Dorian Gray) and his friends (Lord Henry and Basil). The book is a classic in the true sense of the word, as it appeals to the universal instincts of Man.
