Book Synopsis 10 Virtues of Outstanding Leaders by : Al Gini
Download or read book 10 Virtues of Outstanding Leaders written by Al Gini and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-05 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What makes a good leader? Ten leaders, ten key virtues This readable distillation of the core common features of successful leaders shows how an individual's character, and especially their virtue, is the defining factor. Without these ten vital virtues, leadership becomes "misleadership." The authors, both renowned business ethicists, combine theory with fascinating biographical detail on exemplary leaders such as Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, and Oprah Winfrey. The result is an accessible text on the ethics of leadership which, unlike many publications that claim to reveal the secrets of success as a leader, is informed by a wealth of exceptional academic experience.
Book Synopsis Leaders and Misleaders by : Andre Van Heerden
Download or read book Leaders and Misleaders written by Andre Van Heerden and published by . This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are more books, university courses, and corporate funds dedicated to leadership than ever, yet the alarming shortage of leaders in business, the community, and government is there for all to see. There are plenty of misleaders, driven by selfish personal agendas, but precious few leaders with the inspiration and integrity to make a positive difference in our troubled world. Misleaders use people as means to their own ends; leaders respect people and build a better future for all. This book argues that the obsession with skills-training produces masses of people with technical ability, but very little by way of creativity and character. Skills are valuable only if you have the will to use them wisely and ethically, to lead like you mean it. Skills-training cannot produce leaders, only on-going education can.

Book Synopsis Drucker on Leadership by : William A. Cohen
Download or read book Drucker on Leadership written by William A. Cohen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-11-16 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Peter Drucker, “The Father of Modern Management,” died in 2005, his timeless teachings are studied and practiced by forward-thinking managers worldwide. His lessons and wisdom on the topic of leadership—the central element of management—are in constant demand, yet he wrote little under that actual subject heading. In Drucker on Leadership, William A. Cohen explores Drucker’s lost leadership lessons—why they are missing, what they are, why they are important, and how to apply them. As Cohen explains, Drucker was ambivalent about leadership for much of his career, making it clear that leadership was not by itself “good or desirable.” While Drucker struggled with the concept of leadership, he was well aware that it had a critical impact on the accomplishment of all projects and human endeavors. There is no book from Drucker specifically dedicated to leadership, but a wealth of information about leadership can be found scattered throughout his 40 books and hundreds of articles. Drucker’s teachings about leadership have saved many corporations from failure and helped guide others to outstanding success. Many of the leadership concepts revealed in this book will surprise and perhaps shock Drucker’s followers. For example, who would have thought that Peter Drucker taught that “leadership is a marketing job” or that “the best leadership lessons for business or any nonprofit organization come from the military”? Written for anyone who values the insights of the man whose name is synonymous with excellence in management, Drucker on Leadership offers a deeper understanding of what makes an extraordinary leader.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fredmund Malik has become the leading analyst of, and expert on, management in Europe (...). He is the most important voice - in theory as well as in the practice of Management Peter Drucker Long before everybody else, Malik uncovered the false logic on which conventional corporate governance is grounded, using his comprehensive general management framework. He unmasked neo-liberalism's false and destructive teachings, and the errors caused by the mechanical application of financial management. In this book he reveals why manager scandals, company disintegrations and the collapse of the financial system result from false corporate governance. Malik then contrasts this against his cutting edge solutions to organizing and controlling the complex systems of the 21st century. A healthy economy in a functioning society requires companies to strive for customer value not shareholder value, competitiveness not size, real engineering solutions not financial engineering solutions. "Many practitioners hang on his every word and appreciate his candid language." Wirtschaft und Weiterbildung "Malik is listened to because management knowledge has never been more important." Book Synopsis MisLeadership by : Dr Jonathan Smith
Download or read book MisLeadership written by Dr Jonathan Smith and published by Gower Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2012-08-28 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 'MisLeadership' of this book's title is a description of the phenomenon the authors have uncovered through their analysis of the validity, or otherwise, of current leadership styles and achievements, in the light of the challenges leaders face, and particularly of the urgent global issues with which business leaders are now confronted. John Rayment and Jonathan Smith examine existing approaches to leadership with a focus on their shortcomings, categorized according to the four main types of misLeadership the authors have identified - Missing, Misguided, Misinformed and Machiavellian leadership. Each of these forms of misleadership has a corollary in one of the four elements of the kind of holistic leadership that the authors advocate - the capacity for effective decision making, the adoption of a global perspective, the move to a new business paradigm to replace the current economic and social one, and commitment to a contemporary mission. From Rayment and Smith's passionately argued, but well reasoned perspective, leaders, the led and those responsible for leadership development will gain an insight into the prevalence and causes of misleadership and into ways in which it can be identified and overcome. A range of examples and case studies is provided to enable the concepts presented here to be related to practice. As well as illustrating instances of 'misleadership' these also demonstrate that the emphasis in relation to the decision making models currently available to leaders may not be the most important stages of the processes involved. The global perspective emphasized by the authors is not just about globality in the geographical sense. An important part of the way forward suggested here involves considering all aspects of humanity - the physical, mental and spiritual strength, stamina and fitness of individuals, groups and societies, in the context of a 'Global Fitness Framework'. All this is presented in a practical and approachable style that enables these authors to introduce a new approach to a key element of management thinking, in a way that will encourage and empower individuals to think on a different scale, challenge assumptions and exercise effective leadership.
Book Synopsis Training for Leadership by : Geert Bouckaert
Download or read book Training for Leadership written by Geert Bouckaert and published by Primento. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the needs for training for leadership are recognized as urgent, we need to ask whether the training institutes are doing the right things and question the effectiveness of training institutions. This book calls for a serious and critical reflection on the way in which we conceptualize training for leadership in the second decade of the 21st century. The different chapters reflect the ideas, theories and practices being dominant today. The thread of the contents show that something is amiss in such training. In general it does not have the expected effects and it often does not address the needs of recipients. The implication is that training for leadership in the future has to be redefined taking into account the specific contingencies, problems and complexities, leaders – especially in developing countries – have to deal with. Leadership cannot be seen as an isolated factor. The different chapters in this book argue that training for effective leadership and good governance practices need to be combined. All ask for leadership that is less hierarchical and more interactive, collaborative, and takes also stakeholders outside the public sector seriously. This has serious implications for the question how leadership training is organized ; the different chapters of this volume address this issue from a theoretical as well as an empirical point of view : developments in theorizing about leadership, styles of public sector leadership, leadership in turbulent times and the importance of contingences on leadership in changing times.

Download or read book C I V I L I Z A T I O N written by Armand du Plessis and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-06-04 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We witness step by step decay of civilization across the world, particularly in South Africa. As many others, I also want to arrest the decline. I thought I could reach the broad public by writing but after various persons had read the draft, I realized only independent thinkers could benefit from it, whilst it needlessly confuse those who are dependent on society for values. Those, who are content with society and their prospects, probably would not find use in this writing. Maintenance of civilization is of the very greatest concern to man and even to plant and animal, particularly threatened species. I cannot imagine anyone, who can read, would object to this axiom. But few know, that which we call civilization, was created by the Aryans and only this race and those who inherited sufficient of its characteristics, maintain civilization. On each of the legion subjects relating to civilization scholars already published documents but I have yet to find one revealing adequate role players to elucidate a total image covering both nature and history, to enable us to find solutions for the preservation of Civilization.
