Book Synopsis Symmetries and Semi-invariants in the Analysis of Nonlinear Systems by : Laura Menini
Download or read book Symmetries and Semi-invariants in the Analysis of Nonlinear Systems written by Laura Menini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-05-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details the analysis of continuous- and discrete-time dynamical systems described by differential and difference equations respectively. Differential geometry provides the tools for this, such as first-integrals or orbital symmetries, together with normal forms of vector fields and of maps. A crucial point of the analysis is linearization by state immersion. The theory is developed for general nonlinear systems and specialized for the class of Hamiltonian systems. By using the strong geometric structure of Hamiltonian systems, the results proposed are stated in a different, less complex and more easily comprehensible manner. They are applied to physically motivated systems, to demonstrate how much insight into known properties is gained using these techniques. Various control systems applications of the techniques are characterized including: computation of the flow of nonlinear systems; computation of semi-invariants; computation of Lyapunov functions for stability analysis and observer design.

Book Synopsis Z2Z4-Linear Codes by : Joaquim Borges
Download or read book Z2Z4-Linear Codes written by Joaquim Borges and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-30 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory developed for Z2Z4-additive codes is the starting point for much generalization about codes over mixed alphabets. They have opened a new, emergent area of research. The techniques used for Z2Z4-linear codes are being generalized and applied to more general codes. By example, these codes have contributed to the classification of many nonlinear codes. Moreover, they can be considered as the starting point of many different generalizations given over mixed alphabets, thereby representing a useful area of research. Since 2010, more than 30 papers have been published about the codes considered in the book, which includes important classes of binary codes (1-perfect, Hadamard, etc.) that are not linear in general. For example, much recent research has shown the application of the techniques described for the family of cyclic Z2Z4-linear codes. Topics and Features: Examines everything from the basic definitions to very advanced results Provides numerous examples, succinctly and comprehensively gathering and using the relevant information Includes examples using commands from a new Magma package, developed mostly by the same authors Proposes algorithms, for instance to describe coding and decoding strategies This unique volume will be eminently suitable for researchers working on coding theory over rings, especially over mixed alphabets. Experts will find commands and algorithms that will be useful in the generalization to codes over mixed alphabets. Additionally, by outlining the basic theory of codes over mixed alphabets and providing numerous examples, the book will be useful to researchers wanting to be introduced to the topic. The authors are all affiliated with the Dept. of Information and Communications Engineering at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain. Joaquim Borges and Cristina Fernández-Córdoba are Associate Professors, Jaume Pujol is a now retired Associate Professor, Josep Rifà is Professor Emeritus, and Mercè Villanueva is Associate Professor.
Book Synopsis The Mathematical Aspects of Quantum Maps by : Mirko Esposti
Download or read book The Mathematical Aspects of Quantum Maps written by Mirko Esposti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-11 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum maps are presented with special emphasis on their physical origin. They represent a testing ground for understanding concepts in quantized chaotic systems. The book teaches the modern mathematical methods from analytic and algebraic number theory as applied to quantum maps. It gives a broad and in-depth overview of the mathematical problems arising in this area. Also treated are the numerical aspects in quantum chaos such as eigenvalue and eigenfunctions computations for chaotic quantum systems. The book addresses scientists and advanced students in mathematics and mathematical physics.

Book Synopsis Representations of Solvable Lie Groups by : Didier Arnal
Download or read book Representations of Solvable Lie Groups written by Didier Arnal and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-04-16 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of unitary group representations began with finite groups, and blossomed in the twentieth century both as a natural abstraction of classical harmonic analysis, and as a tool for understanding various physical phenomena. Combining basic theory and new results, this monograph is a fresh and self-contained exposition of group representations and harmonic analysis on solvable Lie groups. Covering a range of topics from stratification methods for linear solvable actions in a finite-dimensional vector space, to complete proofs of essential elements of Mackey theory and a unified development of the main features of the orbit method for solvable Lie groups, the authors provide both well-known and new examples, with a focus on those relevant to contemporary applications. Clear explanations of the basic theory make this an invaluable reference guide for graduate students as well as researchers.

Book Synopsis An Invitation to Modern Enumerative Geometry by : Andrea T. Ricolfi
Download or read book An Invitation to Modern Enumerative Geometry written by Andrea T. Ricolfi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-12-14 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on a series of lectures given by the author at SISSA, Trieste, within the PhD courses Techniques in enumerative geometry (2019) and Localisation in enumerative geometry (2021). The goal of this book is to provide a gentle introduction, aimed mainly at graduate students, to the fast-growing subject of enumerative geometry and, more specifically, counting invariants in algebraic geometry. In addition to the more advanced techniques explained and applied in full detail to concrete calculations, the book contains the proofs of several background results, important for the foundations of the theory. In this respect, this text is conceived for PhD students or research “beginners” in the field of enumerative geometry or related areas. This book can be read as an introduction to Hilbert schemes and Quot schemes on 3-folds but also as an introduction to localisation formulae in enumerative geometry. It is meant to be accessible without a strong background in algebraic geometry; however, three appendices (one on deformation theory, one on intersection theory, one on virtual fundamental classes) are meant to help the reader dive deeper into the main material of the book and to make the text itself as self-contained as possible.

Book Synopsis Symmetry and Quantum Mechanics by : Scott Corry
Download or read book Symmetry and Quantum Mechanics written by Scott Corry and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structured as a dialogue between a mathematician and a physicist, Symmetry and Quantum Mechanics unites the mathematical topics of this field into a compelling and physically-motivated narrative that focuses on the central role of symmetry. Aimed at advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students in mathematics with only a minimal background in physics, this title is also useful to physicists seeking a mathematical introduction to the subject. Part I focuses on spin, and covers such topics as Lie groups and algebras, while part II offers an account of position and momentum in the context of the representation theory of the Heisenberg group, along the way providing an informal discussion of fundamental concepts from analysis such as self-adjoint operators on Hilbert space and the Stone-von Neumann Theorem. Mathematical theory is applied to physical examples such as spin-precession in a magnetic field, the harmonic oscillator, the infinite spherical well, and the hydrogen atom.
