Alphonse de Lamartine écrit alors les poèmes des Méditations dont le recueil est publié en 1820 et obtient un succès fulgurant. Il épouse la même année Marianne-Elisa Birch, une jeune Anglaise, et occupe des fonctions de secrétaire d'ambassade en Italie avant de démissionner en 1830. Il publie durant cette période d'autres oeuvres poétiques comme, en 1823, les Nouvelles Méditations poétiques et La Mort de Socrate, ou encore, en juin 1830, les Harmonies poétiques et religieuses après avoir été élu à l'Académie française en 1829.Méditations poétiques est un recueil de poèmes de Lamartine, publié en 1820.Les débuts de Lamartine dans la poésie, débuts de la poésie romantique dans la littérature française, furent un succès. Après la poésie sensuelle ou jugée trop conventionnelle des derniers classiques, on fut surpris et charmés d'entendre un poète osant être à la fois ému et sincère, faisant preuve d'une profonde mélancolie, élégiaque et douce. La forme des Méditations, fluide et homogène, atteint grâce aux sentiments forts et profonds du poète, une harmonie novatrice, comblant dès lors la déficience du romantisme en matière de poésie.[réf. nécessaire] Ce recueil, tiré à 500 exemplaires le 11 mars 1820, contient des poèmes composés entre 1815 et 1820, dont : "Le Lac", "L'Isolement", "Le Soir", "Le Vallon", "Le Golfe de Baya" et "L'Automne".La première édition comportait 24 poèmes. D'autres éditions suivirent ; celle de 1849 comportait alors 41 poèmes. Book excerpt: First published in 1919 by Ezra Pound, Ernest Fenollosa’s essay on the Chinese written language has become one of the most often quoted statements in the history of American poetics. As edited by Pound, it presents a powerful conception of language that continues to shape our poetic and stylistic preferences: the idea that poems consist primarily of images; the idea that the sentence form with active verb mirrors relations of natural force. But previous editions of the essay represent Pound’s understanding—it is fair to say, his appropriation—of the text. Fenollosa’s manuscripts, in the Beinecke Library of Yale University, allow us to see this essay in a different light, as a document of early, sustained cultural interchange between North America and East Asia. Pound’s editing of the essay obscured two important features, here restored to view: Fenollosa’s encounter with Tendai Buddhism and Buddhist ontology, and his concern with the dimension of sound in Chinese poetry. By establishing close links between these four texts, it becomes possible to achieve a more comprehensive understanding, not only of the significance of the tetralogy in exposing a complex and multi-layered novelistic strategy at the heart of the vianesque, but of the individual novels as autonomous creations. An examination of the novels reveals that they are not merely joined to one another via a superficial network of textual similarities (that which I refer to as intratextuality), but that this intertwining is emblematic of a common method of narrative construction.
