La religione romana cessò di essere la religione "ufficiale" all'interno dell'impero romano con gli editti promulgati a partire dal 380 dall'imperatore romano convertito al Cristianesimo Teodosio I, il quale proibì e perseguitò tutti i culti non cristiani professati nell'Impero, soprattutto quelli pagani.
