Book Synopsis The Italian Economy at the Dawn of the 21st Century by : Massimo Di Matteo
Download or read book The Italian Economy at the Dawn of the 21st Century written by Massimo Di Matteo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003. Most of the essays collected in this volume are the revised versions of the reports presented at a conference held at the University of Tokyo in October 2001, organised as part of the initiatives of the "Italian Year" in Japan, and supported by the Foundation Italy in Japan 2001, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Tokyo, the Italian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Higher Education, and the University of Tokyo. The essays, which aim at a fact-based presentation, provide a thorough survey of the relevant problems and aspects of present-day Italian economy and society. Those peculiar features of the Italian economy, such as its dualistic industrial structure and territorial divide, are analysed at length, with an eye to open policy options. The economic analyses are complemented by presentations of some of the central topics on the Italian social framework, such as the role of family and the "Third Sector".
Download or read book Active Ageing written by Principi, Andrea and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Active ageing’ has become a key phrase in discourses about challenges and remedies for demographic ageing and the enrolment of older adults into voluntary work is an important dimension of it. The pattern and factors conditioning volunteering among older people has so far been an under-researched topic in Europe and this is the first book to study volunteering among older people comparatively and comprehensively. In this topical book older people’s volunteering is studied in eight European countries at the structural, macro, meso and micro levels. Overall it highlights how different interactions between the levels facilitate or hinder older people’s inclusion in voluntary work and makes policy suggestions for an integrated strategy. This book provides important new insights for academics and students interested in ageing societies, active ageing and voluntary work. It will also be of great value for policy makers and practitioners in third sector and voluntary organisations.

Book Synopsis Management in the Non-Profit Sector by : Renato Civitillo
Download or read book Management in the Non-Profit Sector written by Renato Civitillo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-04 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the significant importance of the non-profit Sector, there is a relative limitation of possible modelling related to the management of the Non-Profit Institutions (NPIs). The studies and the research are concentrated in the analysis of the characteristics and the limitations related to the NPIs, rather than to the identification of possible models that can guarantee virtuous paths to these organizations. This book provides hypothetical trajectories for the construction of a theoretical model of reference for the management of NPIs—it accounts for the difficulties and the peculiarities of the non-profit sector, without however renouncing the concrete necessity and the great importance of approaches that try to avoid, or limit, the search for hybrid approaches constituted by the simple "transplant" of tools and techniques taken from the market or from the public administration context. Ultimately, it asserts that the non-profit sector is increasingly becoming the "pillar" on which modern civil society stands, to move towards a better future. The main aims of this book are to identify a link between accountability, responsibility and public trust in NPIs through a potential multidimensional managerial model in which these conceptual elements can be represented in a coordinated and systemic way. It will be of interest to researchers, academics, policymakers, and students in the fields of public and non-profit management, business management and administration, and public administration.

Book Synopsis The ‘Camps System’ in Italy by : Riccardo Armillei
Download or read book The ‘Camps System’ in Italy written by Riccardo Armillei and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-16 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the social exclusion of Romanies (‘Gypsies’) in Italy. Based on interviews with Romani individuals, institutional and Civil Society Organisations’ (CSOs) representatives, participant observation and a broad range of secondary sources, the volume focuses on the conditions of those living in Rome’s urban slums and on the recent implementation of the so-called ‘Emergenza Nomadi’ (Nomad Emergency). The enactment of this extraordinary measure concealed the existence of a long-established institutional tradition of racism and control directed at Romanies. It was not the result of a sudden, unexpected situation which required an immediate action, as the declaration of an ‘emergency’ might imply, but rather of a precise government strategy. By providing an investigation into the interactions between Romanies, local institutions and CSOs, this book will deliver a new perspective on the Romani issue by arguing that the ‘camp’ is not only a tool for institutional control and segregation, but also for ‘resistance’, as well as a huge business in which everyone plays their part.
Book Synopsis Social Enterprise by : Marthe Nyssens
Download or read book Social Enterprise written by Marthe Nyssens and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-01-24 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In one of its previous books, the EMES European Research Network traced the most significant developments in 'social entrepreneurship' emerging inside the third sector in Europe. Building upon that seminal work, this volume presents the results of an extensive research project carried out over a four-year period of a comparative analysis of 160 social enterprises across eleven EU countries. It breaks new ground in both its articulation of multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks and its rigorous analysis of empirical evidence based on a homogenized data collection methodology. Looking at work intergration, it is structured around a number of key themes (multiple goals and multiple stakeholders, multiple resources, trajectories of workers, public policies) developed through a transversal European analysis, and is illustrated with short country experiences that reflect the diversity of welfare models across Europe. With contributions from an impressive list of academics, all members of the EMES European Research Network, this rich follow-up volume to The Emergence of Social Enterprise is essential reading for academics, researchers and students in the fields of the third sector and social policies.

Book Synopsis The Study of Nonprofit Enterprise by : Helmut K. Anheier
Download or read book The Study of Nonprofit Enterprise written by Helmut K. Anheier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses the need to revisit the economic theories from the last two decades that have contributed to the development of a concentrated research agenda on nonprofit organizations. Long neglected as a topic of theorizing and empirical investigation by mainstream economics in particular, these initial theories of nonprofit organizations from the late 1970s and early 1980s continue to shape theoretical and conceptual efforts. Importantly, their influence extends beyond economics and informs sociological and politics science approaches to the set of organizations and institutions located between the market firm and the state agency as well. While the theoretical map of nonprofit research has expanded beyond these early attempts and now include several other major theories such as stakeholder approaches, supply-side or entrepreneurial theories, institutional theories and comparative approaches. This work suggests that it is time to take stock and reexamine some of the basics from which these economic theories operate.
