This book was released on 1999-04-29 with total page 892 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In all the history of hand-written books, one of the most distinctive and handsome scripts is that of the abbey of Monte Cassino. This study examines for the first time in detail the development of this script during the Abbey's greatest period of wealth and influence, under Desiderius (abbot 1058-1087) and his successor Oderisius (abbot 1087-1105). The characteristic Cassinese hand was established long before, but in this period it was transformed into what is today considered its classic form. The present study rests on a fresh examination of many details of the Beneventan (South Italian) script in aspects incompletely studied before. It aims to provide a new history of Monte Cassino as a writing centre and to offer a context for many unique or valuable texts manuscripts that it processed.

Book Synopsis Towards and Beyond the Italian Republic by : Davide Cadeddu
Download or read book Towards and Beyond the Italian Republic written by Davide Cadeddu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-12 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the historical process that led to the foundation of the Italian Republic and its constitution, viewed through the personal experiences and political reflections of Adriano Olivetti (between 1919 and 1960), general manager and president of the well-known typewriter manufacturer “Ing. C. Olivetti & C.” An unbroken line of reasoning linked his maturing political reflections during the two post-war periods. The historical context of the 1950s did not prove to be very propitious, but the guidelines dispersed throughout the Italian cultural and political world from the movement that Olivetti founded were certainly seminal – generating a legacy of ideas that has only in part been recognized. What makes this study distinctive is the original approach to reading the history of Italy through Adriano Olivetti’s eyes and thoughts, far from the more common Christian Democratic or Communist perspective of those years. It is simply another view of what the Italian Republic could be and was not.

Book Synopsis Zarstvo and Communism by : Francesco Randazzo
Download or read book Zarstvo and Communism written by Francesco Randazzo and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-29 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First World War brought with it enormous ideological, political and social problems. In Russia, as in Italy, the repercussions of the war were soon felt, and the two countries saw the birth of oppositional movements within them. In Russia, these movements grasped power thanks to a Bolshevik coup, while in Italy Mussolini founded the Fasci di combattimento, a real militia ready to ride the popular discontent with the “mutilated victory”, specifically the dissatisfaction with territories promised by the Treaty of London and not granted to Italy. Relations between these two countries were interrupted for several years and were resumed only when both realized that the economic advantages that could result from resuming relations would be far more beneficial than continuing their ideological confrontation. However, mutual distrust never stopped and rendered bilateral relations increasingly tenuous until they were definitely severed in the early years of the Second World War.

Book Synopsis I Prezzi Delle Cose Nell'età Preindustriale by : Istituto internazionale di storia economica F. Datini. Settimana di studio
Download or read book I Prezzi Delle Cose Nell'età Preindustriale written by Istituto internazionale di storia economica F. Datini. Settimana di studio and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Selected Writings of an Eighteenth-Century Venetian Woman of Letters by : Elisabetta Caminer Turra
Download or read book Selected Writings of an Eighteenth-Century Venetian Woman of Letters written by Elisabetta Caminer Turra and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2007-11-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elisabetta Caminer Turra (1751-96) was one of the most prominent women in eighteenth-century Italy and a central figure in the international "Republic of Letters." A journalist and publisher, Caminer participated in important debates on capital punishment, freedom of the press, and the abuse of clerical power. She also helped spread Enlightenment ideas into Italy by promoting and publishing Voltaire's latest works and translating new European plays-plays she herself directed, to great applause, on Venetian stages. Bringing together Caminer's letters, poems, and journalistic writings, nearly all published for the first time here, Selected Writings offers readers an intellectual biography of this remarkable figure as well as a glimpse into her intimate correspondence with the most prominent thinkers of her day. But more important, Selected Writings provides insight into the passion that animated Caminer's fervent reflections on the complex and shifting condition of women in her society-the same passion that pushed her to succeed in the male-dominated literary professions.
Book Synopsis Multidisciplinary Aspects of Design by : Francesca Zanella
Download or read book Multidisciplinary Aspects of Design written by Francesca Zanella and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-30 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book gathers the contributions from the Design! OPEN International Conference, held in Parma, Italy in May 2022. The conference explored the multidisciplinary aspects of design starting from its dimensions: objects (design as focused on the object, on its functional and symbolic dimension, and at the same time on the object as a tool for representing cultures), processes (the designer’s self-reflective moment which is focused on the analysis and on the definition of processes in various contexts, spanning innovation, social engagement, reflection on emergencies or forecasting), experiences (design as a theoretical and practical strategy aimed at facilitating experiential interactions among people, people and objects or environments), and narratives (making history, representing through different media, archiving, narrating, and exhibiting design). The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, highlight numerous exciting ideas that will spur novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration among different specialists.
