Download or read book Thinking Globally and Responding Locally in the Church written by Thomas Knieps-Port le Roi and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2023 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How has Pope Francis’s groundbreaking document on marriage and family, Amoris Laetitia, been implemented in Africa? In Asia? In Latin America? In this volume, scholars from across these regions reflect on their experiences, correcting the overly western focus of most reactions to AL. The contributions look at local issues like polygamy in Africa, as well as more global issues in a local context, like feminism in Indonesia and synodality in Colombia. The reader will find that concerns about marriage and family can be similar throughout the world or specific to different contexts. As a whole, the book contributes to a more diverse and revisited catholic understanding of marriage and family.

Download or read book Mongameli Mabona written by Ernst Wolff and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life and work of a remarkably versatile and pioneering South African thinker Mongameli Anthony Mabona (1929) is a singular South African scholar with an exceptional life path. Yet, he is a wrongly forgotten figure today. British imperialism and apartheid shaped the world into which he was born and, to a large extent, these powers carved out his destiny for him. Nevertheless, a curious set of coincidences enabled him to obtain a tertiary education as a priest, to pursue his doctoral studies in Italy and to befriend Alioune Diop. He is one of the first published philosophers of Anglophone Africa and holds doctorates in theology and anthropology. His opposition to institutionalized racism – an opposition which included his co-authoring the 1970 “Black Priests’ Manifesto” – eventually led to his exile. This book is the first study of any kind devoted to Mabona. It documents his life and offers a synoptic reading of his scholarly and poetic work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the reality of being African, woman, and Christian? In this collection of original essays, African women theologians write about the life and dreams, the sorrows and joys of African women in a continent where religion shapes the whole of life. The first two parts of the book describe the role of women in terms of culture, rites of passage, and daily life. Attitudes toward birthing and naming, marriage and widowhood, polygamy, prostitution, and death are all explored. The third part focuses on the church, reviewing biblical attitudes toward women, and showing how African women can and should contribute to the life of the Christian church. Contributors: Musimbi R. A. Kanyoro Mercy Amba Oduyoye Rosemary N. Edet Anne Nasimiyu-Wasike Daisy N. Nwachuku Rabiatu Ammah Judith Mbula Bahemuka Lloyda Fanusie Bernadette Mbuy Beya Teresa M. Hinga Anne Nachisale Musopole R. Modupe Owanikin Teresa Okure ÒThe themes in 'The Will to Arise' constitute the base of contemporary African women's theological scholarship. . . . At their most creative, these theologians affirm cultural traditions and criticize their failings, in order to lead the reader to new visions that can renew religious life in our various contexts. --from the Foreword by Katie G. Download or read book Pope John Paul II written by Pope John Paul II and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a papacy that lasted more than a quarter of a century, Pope John Paul II left a huge amount of official teaching through encyclicals, apostolic exhortations and letters, homilies, addresses, and other published texts. This anthology has been selected from his many writings, with introductions explaining their importance and place in Catholic doctrine. The book arranges his teaching according to twelve themes, including revelation, the human condition, the sacraments, spirituality, and more. Each chapter and, where necessary, sections of chapters have brief introductions, aimed at "situating" the teaching. Readers will find that this book: draws on the most important and clearest examples of the pope's teachings; relies on primary sources, not paraphrases; provides comprehensive information about various sources available for those who wish to read the full texts of the documents, organizes the many disparate areas on which the pope spoke; encourages the readers to make their own judgments about this late pope; and is the first of its kind in the English-speaking world. This book was released on 2020-08-21T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Jean-Paul II, Pierre au tournant du nouveau millénaire written by Philippe Barbarin and published by Fleurus. This book was released on 2020-08-07T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Cardinal Philippe Barbarin
