This book was released on 1975 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The elastic shear constants, and phonon dispersion curves in three symmetry directions, are calculated for zinc and compared to experimental values. Harrison's generalized first principle pseudopotential theory in the second order, nonlocal form is used to calculate the electron gas modified ion-ion interaction energy. This 'generalized' pseudopotential method is applicable to d-band metals in that the usual small core approximation is relaxed so as to effectively include the effects of hybridization. The effects of including and ignoring hybridization are compared. The delocalized nature of the metallic d-states is also considered in the calculation of the conduction-core exchange energy. Good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained for the phonon spectra curves. Agreement between theory and experiment for the elastic shear constants is fair. (Author).

Download or read book Lattice Dynamics written by R. F. Wallis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 747 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lattice Dynamics covers the proceedings of the 1963 International Conference on Lattice Dynamics, held at the H.C. Ørsted Institute of the University of Copenhagen on August 5-9. This book is composed of seven parts that focus on a better fundamental understanding of the interactions between atoms in solids and their role in lattice dynamics. The major topics covered include phonon dispersion curves, anharmonic effects, optical and dielectric effects, influence of defects on lattice vibrations, elasticity, and developments. Papers on the study of vibrational spectra by infrared absorption, X-ray and neutron scattering and the electron tunneling effects as well as papers on the influence of defects and on a variety of other problems in lattice dynamics are included. This book will prove useful to applied physicists and researchers in the field and related fields of lattice dynamics.

Download or read book Zinc Oxide written by Claus F. Klingshirn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-07-01 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book gives a comprehensive review of the present state-of-the-art in ZnO R+D, including growth, doping, lattice dynamics, electric magnetic and optical properties. The emphasis is on the electric and optical properties, because this is the area where novel applications may be expected with highest promise. The book highlights not only the most recent results but gives both an overview of past research and of the present status -- not avoiding critical and controversial discussions of various aspects such as bank symmetries and laser processes. Intended to have long-lasting impact on ZnO R+D, this monograph addresses (post-)graduate students but also advanced scientists, who want to embark on ZnO research or are already involved, the present state of the art and assists them in avoiding duplication of old results (or mistakes).
