Book Synopsis Advances in X-Ray Spectroscopy of Laser Plasmas by : Eugene Oks
Download or read book Advances in X-Ray Spectroscopy of Laser Plasmas written by Eugene Oks and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-06 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents advances in X-ray spectroscopy of plasmas interacting with a laser radiation and laser-induced plasmas. This research is practically important for the quest for the controlled nuclear fusion, for studying matter under extreme conditions, for providing atomic reference data, for laboratory modelling of physical processes in astrophysical objects, and for a better understanding of intense laser-plasma interactions. Advances in X-Ray Spectroscopy of Laser Plasmas significantly expands the scope of practical applications of X-ray spectroscopy of laser plasmas compared to traditional X-ray diagnostics of laser plasmas. The recent advances presented in this text make it possible to study the development of Langmuir waves, ion acoustic waves, transverse electromagnetic waves, parametric decay instabilities, as well as the rates of charge exchange between multicharged ions. Key Features Presents novel methods of X-Ray spectroscopy for both non-relativistic and relativistic laser-plasma interactions Includes methods of the X-Ray spectroscopy for measuring ultra-intense magnetic fields in laser plasmas Examines advanced designs of plasma-tunable X-ray lasers Demonstrates various analytical formalisms underlying the advances described in the book

This book was released on 2003-07-22 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers from the April 1995 conference (formerly called a "workshop") are contained in two volumes. The first volume (623-9) comprises contributions arranged in sections on ICF programs and energy drivers; critical elements for ignition--target experiment, physics, and design; laser-matter interaction physics; and high intensities, short pulse interactions. The second volume (624-7) begins with papers on optical technologies and various kinds of lasers--free electron, LD and LD pumped, gas, nuclear pumped, and short pulse. Following these are sections on particle beams--light and heavy ion beam fusions; and applications of laser and plasma. Edward Teller Award lectures complete the proceedings. Not indexed by subject (contains only an author "index"). Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
Book Synopsis Progress in Lasers and Laser Fusion by : Behram Kursunoglu
Download or read book Progress in Lasers and Laser Fusion written by Behram Kursunoglu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a portion of the presentations given at the session on Laser-Fusion and Laser Develop ment of Orbis Scientiae II, held at the Center for Theoretical Studies, University of Miami, from January 20 through January 24, 1975. This second in the new series of meetings held at the CTS strove to implement the goals professed in the organization of Orbis Scientiae in 1974, namely to encourage scientists in several disci plines to exchange views, not only with colleagues who share similar research interests, but also to acquaint scientists in other fields with the leading ideas and current results in each area represented. Thus, an effort has been made to include papers in each session that discuss fundamental issues in a way which is com prehensible to scientists who are specialists in other areas. Also in keeping with the philosophy of Orbis Scientiae, the major topics each year are to be varied, with the invariant being the inclusion of developments in fundamental physics. The discussions of the current state of the art in lasers and fusion represented in this volume are not only of interest because they deal with newly unfolding branches of physics, but also because of their potential technological and societal significance. The paper by v. N. Lugovoi and A. M. Prokhorov was not presented at Orbis Scientiae II, but is included because of its relevance to the topics in this volume.
Book Synopsis Short-Wavelength Lasers and Their Applications by : Chiyoe Yamanaka
Download or read book Short-Wavelength Lasers and Their Applications written by Chiyoe Yamanaka and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coherent sources in the short wavelength region are developing rapidly. They are expected to find many applications in the areas of atomic physics, photochemistry, photobiology, spectroscopy, microprocessing and microelectronics. The contributions to this book describe recent progress in this field, including new results on X-ray lasers and scaling to shorter wavelengths, free electron lasers using storage rings and induction linacs, excimer lasers, laser fusion research using short wavelength lasers, and applications to X-ray holography, X-ray lithography, and photochemistry. The papers discuss problems that have yet to be solved (modeling of the atomic process for X-ray emission is not yet accurate enough; damage of mirrors and optical elements in free electron and excimer lasers; achieving pulse compression in excimer lasers) but also report on the status of existing and planned installations for free electron lasers, laser fusion research, and excimer lasers.

Book Synopsis High-Energy X-Ray Imager for Laser-Fusion Research at the National Ignition Facility by :
Download or read book High-Energy X-Ray Imager for Laser-Fusion Research at the National Ignition Facility written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: X-ray imaging will be an important diagnostic tool for inertial confinement fusion (ICF) research at the National Ignition Facility (NIF). However, high neutron yields will make x-ray imaging much more difficult than it is at smaller facilities. We analyze the feasibility and performance of a High-Energy X-Ray Imager (HEXRI) to be used on cryogenic DT implosions at NIF, with particular emphasis on spatial-resolution, field of view, signal-to-background and signal-to-noise ratios. Using a pinhole about 4 [mu]m in diameter a resolution of 5.8 [mu]m is achieved at 9 keV, limited by restrictions in the pinhole positioning. The resolution varies between 8.5 and 4.5 [mu]m in the 5-20 keV spectral range. Different options for the scintillating materials have been evaluated with the goal of having a sufficiently fast phosphor screen to allow time gating for minimizing neutron-induced background. Signal/Background (SBR) and Signal/Noise (SNR) ratios (limited to x-rays) have been calculated for different commercially-available scintillators, both showing adequate values with either a tantalum or a platinum pinhole substrate.

Book Synopsis Laser Interaction and Related Plasma Phenomena by : Helmut J. Schwarz
Download or read book Laser Interaction and Related Plasma Phenomena written by Helmut J. Schwarz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As was the case in the two preceding workshops of 1969 and 1971, the Third Workshop on "Laser Interaction and Related Plasma Phenomena" held in 1973 was of international character. The main purpose was to review the advanced status of this particular and turbulent field of physics as it had developed vigorously in all major laboratories of the world since 1971. Due to recently accelerated advancements, it was hardly possible to present a com plete tutorial review; the subject is still in its premature stages and changing rapidly. A topical conference would have been too specific for a group of physicists with broad backgrounds working in the field or for those just about to enter it. It was the aim of the workshop and it is the aim of these proceedings to help this large group of scientists find their way within the highly complex and sometimes confusing results of a new field. We optimized the task of the workshop with extensive reviews on several topics and at the same time included more detailed infor mation for specialists. The differences in their conclusions were not a matter of contention but rather served to complement the advanced results. As in the preceding workshops, we directed our attention toward critical realism in respect to the complexity of the field. What is meant here is exemplified in the contribution by R. Sigel ~.667).
