Download or read book Viaje Por la última Frontera de Europa written by Martin Madridejos and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-07 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Harsh World and Other Poems by : Angel Gonzalez
Download or read book Harsh World and Other Poems written by Angel Gonzalez and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-08 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although seven volumes of his poetry are available in Spanish, the work of Ángel González has not been widely translated into English. This bilingual edition, introduced by the poet, presents selections from Palabra sobre palabra (Word upon Word), his definitive collection. Included are poems from Grado elemental (Elementary Grade), which won the Antonio Machado Prize for Poetry. Born in Oviedo, Spain in 1925, Ángel González published his first book in 1956 to immediate acclaim. His poetry is characterized by striking imagery and deeply personal statement that is often sad and sardonic. Of his work González writes, "'Experience,' 'reality', and 'preciseness of expression' are probably...the boundaries that limit the space, on a horizontal plane, in which my poetic intentions move. Upon this plane, trying to add another dimension, I attempt to erect my creative and imaginative possibilities....In some of these poems, written and published in Spain, the result of a determined desire to bear witness will have to be sought not in what the words say but in what they imply, in the spaces of shadow, of silence of anger, or of helplessness that they discover or uncover." Originally published in 1977. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Download or read book Identidad, diferencia y ciudadanía en el cine transnacional contemporáneo written by José Luis Fecé and published by Editorial UOC. This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Bárbaros written by David J. Weber and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two centuries after CortÉs and Pizarro seized the Aztec and Inca empires, Spain's conquest of America remained unfinished. Indians retained control over most of the lands in Spain's American empire. Mounted on horseback, savvy about European ways, and often possessing firearms, independent Indians continued to find new ways to resist subjugation by Spanish soldiers and conversion by Spanish missionaries. In this panoramic study, David J. Weber explains how late eighteenthcentury Spanish administrators tried to fashion a more enlightened policy toward the people they called bÁrbaros, or "savages." Even Spain's most powerful monarchs failed, however, to enforce a consistent, well-reasoned policy toward Indians. At one extreme, powerful independent Indians forced Spaniards to seek peace, acknowledge autonomous tribal governments, and recognize the existence of tribal lands, fulfilling the Crown's oft-stated wish to use "gentle" means in dealing with Indians. At the other extreme the Crown abandoned its principles, authorizing bloody wars on Indians when Spanish officers believed they could defeat them. Power, says Weber, more than the power of ideas, determined how Spaniards treated "savages" in the Age of Enlightenment.

Book Synopsis Percepciones Originales by : Alcides Vidal
Download or read book Percepciones Originales written by Alcides Vidal and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-09-18 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Freedom and Existence by : Matthew Aaron Tennant
Download or read book Freedom and Existence written by Matthew Aaron Tennant and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-08-07 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is theology a dead corpse or living organism? For Uruguayan Jesuit Juan Luis Segundo (1925-1996), theology is dynamic. Freedom and existence for central themes. Segundo believed that theology should be transformative in human lives. For a theology to be transformative, there must be a connection to existence. That is, it must be existential. Yet most scholars have overlooked this assumption in critical analyses of liberation theology. This prima facie connection to existence is distinguishable from existentialism as a school of philosophy. By showing the significant existential dimension to Segundo's theology, assessing his work and contribution to twentieth-century theology relates to freedom, ecumenism, the role of faith in society, and the relationship between faith and ideologies.
Book Synopsis The Surrendered by : José Carlos Agüero
Download or read book The Surrendered written by José Carlos Agüero and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2021-01-11 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Peruvian public intellectual José Carlos Agüero was a child, the government imprisoned and executed his parents, who were members of Shining Path. In The Surrendered—originally published in Spanish in 2015 and appearing here in English for the first time—Agüero reflects on his parents' militancy and the violence and aftermath of Peru's internal armed conflict. He examines his parents' radicalization, their lives as guerrillas, and his tumultuous childhood, which was spent in fear of being captured or killed, while grappling with the complexities of public memory, ethics and responsibility, human rights, and reconciliation. Much more than a memoir, The Surrendered is a disarming and moving consideration of what forgiveness and justice might mean in the face of hate. This edition includes an editors' introduction, a timeline of the Peruvian conflict, and an extensive interview with the author.
