Book Synopsis Theo Van Doesburg by : Paul Dujardin
Download or read book Theo Van Doesburg written by Paul Dujardin and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Résumé en 4ème de couverture: "After the First World War, the European avant-gardes longed for change and hoped for a better future. More than any other artist, Theo van Doesburg (1883-1931) took part in this reconstruction effort by broadening Piet Mondian's Neoplastic aesthetic to all disciplines: painting, sculpture, architecture and the applied arts. Theo van Doesburg proposed a genuine revolution that sought to transform the world in every way, to create a new kind of artistic expression, wich would interact not only with life in all its complexity but also with scientific and technological developments. His constantly changing approach brought together apparently incompatible innovation, as demonstrated by this move toward Elementarism and then to Art Concret. To champion his project on the international stage, Van Doesburg, who was also the founder of th De Stijl movement and its magazine, succeeded in bringing together all the leading artists. He is recognized as much for his visual achievements as for his means of accomplishing a philosophical, artistic an collective ideal. Many artists, including Mondrian, would largely owe their internation renown to Theo van Doesburg."

"His work as a painter is accompanied by an immense body of theoretical work, addressing the question posed so starkly by Duchamp and Picabia: why should we paint? What is the justification for the work of art? Over his life he touches on many spheres of human activity - religious, political and cultural history, physics and the philosophy of work.".

Book Synopsis World and Worldhood / Monde et Mondanéité by : Institut International de Philosoph
Download or read book World and Worldhood / Monde et Mondanéité written by Institut International de Philosoph and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-22 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book philosophers try to answer the following question: What is globalization and what does "globe" or "world" (monde) signify? Rémi Brague returns to the Greek idea of the cosmos in order to track the worldhood (mondanéité) of the world, that is, the process by which the idea of the world is formed. Don Ihde shows how a world has developed, in which technologies are no longer considered neutral means serving the ends of human action, but become the very means by which people exist in the world. Vittorio Mathieu describes the economical world at two levels – that of the individual and that of society. Tomonobu Imamichi analyses the capacity of aesthetic experience to disclose a world other than the world of technological efficiency. Francisco Miró Quesada C. emphasises that the great political questions are not solvable without worldviews that express value systems. David Rasmussen describes sensus communis as a cosmopolitan concept, which founds a political globalization of the world. And Peter Kemp attempts to grasp the meaning of that globalization upon which the destiny of our planet depends.

Book Synopsis Art as experience of the living body / L’art comme experience du corps vivant by : Christine Vial Kayser
Download or read book Art as experience of the living body / L’art comme experience du corps vivant written by Christine Vial Kayser and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2024-01-23 with total page 793 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the dynamic relationship between art and subjective consciousness, following a phenomenological, pragmatist and enactive approach. It brings out a new approach to the role of the body in art, not as a speculative object or symbolic material but as the living source of the imaginary. It contains theoretical contributions and case studies taken from various artistic practices (visual art, theatre, literature and music), Western and Eastern, the latter concerning China, India and Japan. These contributions allow us to nourish the debate on embodied cognition and aesthetics, using theory–philosophy, art history, neuroscience–and the authors’ personal experience as artists or spectators. According to the Husserlian method of “reduction” and pragmatist introspection, they postulate that listening to bodily sensations–cramps, heartbeats, impulsive movements, eye orientation–can unravel the thread of subconscious experience, both active and affective, that emerge in the encounter between a subject and an artwork, an encounter which, following John Dewey, we deem to be a case study for life in general.
