Rinaldo Device is stranded in a world where his magic of metal-working means nothing. Without his brother. Without a way home. Book Synopsis The Glorious Coming and Kingdom of Christ by : Thomas Blackbum Baines
Download or read book The Glorious Coming and Kingdom of Christ written by Thomas Blackbum Baines and published by Irving Risch. This book was released on 2016-05-05 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this book is judgment; the style symbolism. God is revealed as the Almighty, the Eternal, the Judge of all the earth. Christ appears exercising His judicial functions, first in the house of God, and afterwards among the nations. The Holy Ghost is seen, not as the "one Spirit," but in His perfect diversity of action in connection with the government of God. Here, as in all Scripture, the person of Christ is the central figure, the glory of Christ the central object. But next to the person and glory of Christ the kingdom and the Church occupy the most prominent place. The world is, however, throughout regarded as a scene of judgment. Hence it is the judgments, and not the blessings, of the earthly kingdom that are here recorded. So, too, the Church on earth is looked upon, not in its privileges, but in its responsibilities, as the house of God, at which judgment must begin. On the other hand, the heavenly glories of the Church, and the heavenly side of the kingdom, about which the Old Testament is silent are here blessedly unfolded. The style of the book is largely symbolic, and in this it resembles the prophecies of Daniel. But while in Daniel the symbols are generally explained, in this book their interpretation is usually left to be gathered from other portions of Scripture. Many other features, both in the subject and the style, require notice; but these will be more conveniently examined as they arise than in any preliminary remarks. The book naturally divides itself into three parts. At the close of the first chapter John is told to "write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be after these." "The things which thou hast seen" are not so much a separate division as an introduction to "the things which are." But "the things which shall be after these" comprise two distinct classes: those which precede, and those which accompany or follow, the coming and kingdom of Christ. The three divisions of the book are therefore, First. "The things which are," described in the addresses to the seven churches, and preceded by the introductory vision; Second. The judgments falling on the earth before the Lord's advent from heaven; and, Third. The coming and reign of Christ, ending with the judgment of the dead before the great white throne, and leading on to the eternal state in which God is all in all.

Book excerpt: This is the 2nd edition of volume 6 of the ten volumes of The Meaning And Explanation Of The Glorious Qur'an. The first edition of this book contained many formatting and typing errors. In this new edition, we have corrected all the errors found in the first edition. We have also re-arranged the structure of the book and added the full Arabic Text of the thirty Parts of the Qur'an. The reader is now able to read not only the meaning, the transliteration and the tafsir (explanation) of the Glorious Qur'an but also the full Arabic text as well. Our mission is to gather in one place, for the English-speaking public, all relevant information needed to make the Qur'an more understandable and easier to study. This book tries to do this by providing the following: 1. The Arabic Text for those who are able to read Arabic 2. Transliteration of the Arabic text for those who are unable to read the Arabic script. This will give them a sample of the sound of the Qur'an, which they could not otherwise comprehend from reading the English meaning. 3. The meaning of the qur'an (translated by Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali, Ph.D. and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan) 4. Background introductions by two famous Islamic scholars, Maududi and Ibn Kathir 5. Explanation (abridged Tafsir) by Ibn Kathir (translated by Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri) We hope that by doing this an ordinary English-speaker will be able to pick up a copy of this book and study and comprehend The Glorious Qur'an in a way that is acceptable to the understanding of the Rightly-guided Muslim Ummah (Community).
Book Synopsis A Sweet and Glorious Land by : John Keahey
Download or read book A Sweet and Glorious Land written by John Keahey and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the winter of 1897-1898, Victorian writer George Gissing made a well-chronicled journey throughout southern Italy. The result was a book, By the Ionian Sea, in which he detailed the influence of ancient Greece on the peninsula and contrasted the glory of Greece and its magnificent cities to the southern Italy of the late 1800s. The book was published in 1901 and has since become a classic in travel literature. A hundred years later, award-winning newspaper journalist John Keahey sets off to retrace Gissing's footsteps. His goal is to compare and contrast the two Italys, seeing first-hand all the changes that have occurred over the past century. He explores the outdoor markets in Naples, journeys to the charming coastal town of Paola, takes a train ride out of the Calabrian mountain town of Cosenza and into the port city of Taranto, and makes his way down to Reggio at the toe of Italy's boot. Along the route, he visits modern-day Crotone, the Ionian coastal city that was famous in antiquity as the place where Pythagoras had his school, as well as where Hannibal, pursued for 15 years along the length of Italy by the Romans, embarked in shame for Carthage (now in modern-day Tunisia). Going beyond Gissing's journey, Keahey also makes an additional stop at Sibari near where the site of ancient Sybaris has been partially excavated. From train rides through the lush countryside to the crisp mountain air of Catanzaro, Keahey paints a beautiful and compelling picture of one of the lesser known parts of the country. A Sweet and Glorious Land is not only a wonderful travelogue but also an intriguing story of southern Italy and its people.

Download or read book Dear and Glorious Physician written by Taylor Caldwell and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2024-04-23 with total page 725 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bestseller “alive with the bustle of ancient times” that “movingly reconstructs St. Luke’s search for God” (The New York Times). Two millennia ago, a Greek man known as Lucanus traveled to Alexandria to study medicine. He would become one of the greatest doctors of his time and heal the sick all throughout the Mediterranean world. But his extraordinary work as a physician is not his greatest legacy. Today he is known around the world as St. Luke—author of the third Gospel of the New Testament. He never laid eyes on Jesus, but he heard about Christ’s life and death, and saw God in Him. He retraced Jesus’s steps and sought out those who had known Him—including His mother, Mary. The resulting account is a cornerstone of Christianity and world history. From the celebrated author of Captains and the Kings and Great Lion of God comes this stirring and deeply inspiring story, counted “among the bestselling religious novels of all time” (The New York Times Book Review). “A portrait so moving and so eloquent I doubt it is paralleled elsewhere in literature.” —Boston Herald “Magnificent. . . . [Caldwell] has made St. Luke a real and believable man and recreated on a vast canvas the times and people of his day. You see as large as life all the glory and decadence of Rome and all the strife, turmoil and mysticism of Africa. . . . A glowing and passionate statement of belief.” —The Columbus Citizen
Book Synopsis A Glorious Defeat by : Timothy J. Henderson
Download or read book A Glorious Defeat written by Timothy J. Henderson and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2008-05-13 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Timothy J. Henderson's A Glorious Defeat provide a short, accessible account of the US-Mexican War. The war that was fought between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848 was a major event in the history of both countries: it cost Mexico half of its national territory, opened western North America to U.S. expansion, and brought to the surface a host of tensions that led to devastating civil wars in both countries. Among generations of Latin Americans, it helped to cement the image of the United States as an arrogant, aggressive, and imperialist nation, poisoning relations between a young America and its southern neighbors. In contrast with many current books that treat the war as a fundamentally American experience, Timothy J. Henderson's A Glorious Defeat offers a fresh perspective on the Mexican side of the equation. Examining the manner in which Mexico gained independence, Henderson brings to light a greater understanding of that country's intense factionalism and political paralysis leading up to and through the war. Also touching on a range of topics from culture, ethnicity, religion, and geography, this comprehensive yet concise narrative humanizes the conflict and serves as the perfect introduction for new readers of Mexican history.
