Book Synopsis Choreographing Calligraphy by : Katrina Plumb
Download or read book Choreographing Calligraphy written by Katrina Plumb and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Greek word 'poesis' means bringing into existence expressions, which did not exist before. 'Choreographing Calligraphy' is a collection of original poetry by Katrina Plumb. She works with society's outcasts, creating an environment in which they can explore their emotions for the first time, and leave a verbal record of their experience. Double acrostics are a form, obliging the poet to combine care and curiosity conscientiously, and Katrina employs this framework to convey a wide variety of emotions, forever choreographing transformation in style. Katrina Plumb works with recovering addicts as a Creative Writing Mentor, whilst studying at Bristol University, en route to becoming a Poetry Therapist. She enjoys bringing into existence expressions that were not here before and has had a variegated life from which to draw. Double acrostics have held her fascination for the last few months, and Choreographing Transformation is a lifetime endeavor.
Book Synopsis Making Common Sense of Japan by : Steven R. Reed
Download or read book Making Common Sense of Japan written by Steven R. Reed and published by University of Pittsburgh Pre. This book was released on 2010-11-23 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Common misconceptions about Japan begin with the notion that it is a "small" country (it's actually lager than Great Britain, Germany or Italy) and end with pronouncements that the Japanese think differently and have different values-they do things differently because that's the way they are. Steven Reed takes on the task of demystifying Japanese culture and behavior. Through examples that are familiar to an American audience and his own personal encounters with the Japanese, he argues that the apparent oddity of Japanese behavior flows quite naturally from certain objective conditions that are different from those in the United States. Mystical allegations about national character are less useful for understanding a foreign culture than a close look at specific situations and conditions. Two aspects of the Japanese economy have particularly baffled Americans: that Japanese workers have "permanent employment" and that the Japanese government cooperates with big business. Reed explains these phenomena in common sense terms. He shows how they developed historically, why they continue, and why they helped produce economic growth. He concludes that these practices are not as different from what happens in the United States as they may appear.

Book excerpt: Soon to be a major motion picture called "The Right Kind of Wrong," starring Ryan Kwanten from True Blood! "Kelly Palamino's engagingly idiosyncratic voice falls somewhere between On the Road and Bright Lights, Big City. He's the Lone Ranger in love, riding out the rough patches on a Thorazine habit." —People At twenty-nine, Kelly Palamino's a little off-kilter but settled into his career of professional dishwasher. His big, blond, ex-hippie wife has left him for good. So it's with no particular purpose that Kelly positions himself on his porch across the street from an Episcopal church in Jackson, Wyoming, to witness a singular sight: a dark-haired bride in full regalia punting a football over the rectory before turning resolutely to walk down the aisle. It's love at first sight for Kelly, and he'll do absolutely anything and everything to get his girl... "Kelly is full-tilt Gonzo crazy. But crazy people can make good protagonists, particularly when they narrate in their own uniquely whacked-out voice." —Atlanta Journal-Constitution "Tim Sandlin's first novel is impressive...[He] may be compared to Tom Robbins...but Sandlin appears to be more subtle...a fun read." —San Diego Union-Tribune "An anarchic novel that is by turns wryly observant and outrageously slapstick...a novel that shows wit and strength and a sweet sensibility toward the loser in everyone." —Kansas City Star "A potent cocktail mixture of Jack Kerouac, Tom Robbins, and David Lynch topped off with a western twist." —Denver Post

Book Synopsis Stormy Vows/Tempest at Sea by : Iris Johansen
Download or read book Stormy Vows/Tempest at Sea written by Iris Johansen and published by Bantam. This book was released on 2009-07-29 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s twice the romance, double the sizzle in this special two-in-one edition from New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen. Here are a pair of classic contemporary novels that prove once and for all that when it comes to love, you can’t get too much of a good thing. Stormy Vows For a struggling actress, a private audition with a young Hollywood turk like Michael Donovan was the break of a lifetime. But Brenna Sloan refused to be intimidated by the temperamental and sensually overwhelming filmmaker, even if it did cost her the role of a lifetime. For Brenna was both far stronger—and far more vulnerable—than Michael could ever guess. And the secret that she was keeping from him would draw them more intimately together with each encounter…and threaten to drive them apart forever. Tempest at Sea An idealist and activist, Jane Smith stole aboard Jake Dominic’s yacht one warm Miami night as part of an antinuke protest. But in her earnestness Jane hadn’t fully considered the consequences if she got caught or that her act of principled vandalism would end with her serving as Dominic’s part-time prisoner and cabinmate. For the next two months she would accompany this successful, sexy but darkly brooding man aboard the Sea Breeze as they sailed around the Gulf of Mexico from one exotic port of call to another. Danger, close escapes, and erotic adventure await, but nothing can be more unexpected than their romantic destination.
