With the assistance of many well known collectors, a list of ladies' plates has been drawn up, and however imperfect and faulty, as the first of such lists must always be, it is hoped that it may yet prove useful to collectors of these dead leaves. In describing a lady's plate, armorial has always been employed to signify that the arms are on a simple lozenge, in every other case the words shield or oval have been added.
