Definiremos la noción hadotiana de transformación como movimiento trascendente en el que se da una superación de la individualidad en un principio de universalidad. Este movimiento tiene dos matices. Por un lado, es un ascenso del individuo hacia un universal de tipo intelectivo y racional, de corte platónico. Por el otro, es un diálogo de tipo socrático, en el que el individuo supera su opinión personal, su ego, en un encuentro sincero con el interlocutor y consigo mismo.
