This book was released on 1996 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LES EXPRESSIONS RESULTATIVES ANGLAISES SONT DES STRUCTURES DE PHRASE A DEUX PREDICATS DONT LE SECOND (UN ADJECTIF OU UN GROUPE PREPOSITIONNEL) EXPRIME LE RESULTAT DE L' ACTION DENOTEE PAR LE PREMIER (UN VERBE). LA TRADUCTION DE CES EXPRESSIONS VERS LE FRANCAIS MET PARFOIS EN JEU UNE RESTRUCTURATION IMPORTANTE DE L'ENONCE. NOUS ETUDIONS LES DIFFERENTS TYPES DE TRADUCTION ET LES PROPRIETES LINGUISTIQUES ANGLAISES QUI PERMETTENT DE LES SELECTIONNER. DANS LA TRADUCTION EN CHASSE-CROISE, QUI EST LE CAS LE PLUS COMPLEXE ET COURANT, LE PREDICAT RESULTATIF ANGLAIS DEVIENT LE VERBE PRIN CIPAL DE LA PHRASE FRANCAISE ET LE VERBE DEVIENT UN COMPLEMENT CIRCONSTANCIEL DE MOY EN OU MANIERE. NOUS ETUDIONS COMMENT DE TELLES RECATEGORISATIONS FONCTIONNENT AFIN DE PERMETTRE UN TRAITEMENT AUTOMATIQUE. LA METHODE DE TRADUCTION AUTOMATIQUE "SHAKE AND BAKE" PERMET UN TRAITEMENT PUREMENT LEXICAL DE LA TRADUCTION. NOUS PRESENTONS EN DETAIL SON FONCTIONNEMENT ET NOUS PRESENTONS UN TRAITEMENT DE LA TRADUCTION DES ER. AFIN D'AMELIORER LA COMPOSITIONNALITE, NOUS PROPOSONS L'ADDITION D'UN MECANISME NOU VEAU AU FORMALISME "SHAKE AND BAKE" QUI, DANS SA VERSION DE BASE, IMPOSE D'IMPORTAN TES CONTRAINTES SUR LA COMPOSITIONNALITE DE LA TRADUCTION. LE TRAITEMENT PROPOSE PER MET UNE GRANDE ECONOMIE DE MOYENS AU NIVEAU BILINGUE CAR IL NE REQUIERT L'ADDITION D'AUCUNE ENTREE LEXICALE. IL PEUT, EN OUTRE, S'APPLIQUER A LA TRADUCTION AVEC RESTRU CTURATION ET OU RECATEGORISATION D'AUTRES TYPES D'EXPRESSIONS.

Book Synopsis Expanding the Lexicon by : Sabine Arndt-Lappe
Download or read book Expanding the Lexicon written by Sabine Arndt-Lappe and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-01-22 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creation of new lexical units and patterns has been studied in different research frameworks, focusing on either system-internal or system-external aspects, from which no comprehensive view has emerged. The volume aims to fill this gap by studying dynamic processes in the lexicon – understood in a wide sense as not being necessarily limited to the word level – by bringing together approaches directed to morphological productivity as well as approaches analyzing general types of lexical innovation and the role of discourse-related factors. The papers deal with ongoing changes as well as with historical processes of change in different languages and reflect on patterns and specific subtypes of lexical innovation as well as on their external conditions and the speakers’ motivations for innovating. Moreover, the diffusion and conventionalization of innovations will be addressed. In this way, the volume contributes to understanding the complex interplay of structural, cognitive and functional factors in the lexicon as a highly dynamic domain.

This book was released on 2020-05-01 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph focuses on the typological differences between the four most widely spoken Romance languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian) and Czech. Utilizing data from InterCorp, the parallel corpus project of the Czech National Corpus, the book analyses various categories (expression of potential non-volitional participation, iterativity, causation, beginning of an action and adverbial subordination) to discover differences and similarities between Czech and the Romance languages. Due to the massive amount of data mined, as well as the high number of languages examined, the monograph presents general and individual typological features of the four Romance languages and Czech that often exceed what has previously been accepted in the field of comparative linguistics.

Book Synopsis The Acquisition of French as a Second Language by : Christina Lindqvist
Download or read book The Acquisition of French as a Second Language written by Christina Lindqvist and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the field of second language acquisition, interest in the acquisition of French as a second language has a long-standing tradition, especially in the European context. The aim of this book is to offer a synthesis of current research within this area. It contains contributions from different researchers in the field, including studies on the acquisition of grammar, formulaic language, lexis and pragmatic devices, and covering interlanguage development from beginner level up to very advanced, presumably near-native levels of proficiency. The learners in the studies reported in the volume represent different L1 backgrounds and age groups. The chapters shed light on current issues in research on second language acquisition from different theoretical perspectives, and contribute to a better understanding of L2 French and SLA in general. The volume should be of interest for students, teachers and researchers of L2 French and SLA. Originally published in Language, Interaction and Acquisition 3:1 (2012)
Download or read book Transfiction written by Klaus Kaindl and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume on Transfiction (understood as an aestheticized imagination of translatorial action) recognizes the power of fiction as a vital and pulsating academic resource, and in doing so helps expand the breadth and depth of TS. The book covers a selection of peer-reviewed papers from the 1st International Conference on Fictional Translators and Interpreters in Literature and Film (held at the University of Vienna, Austria in 2011) and links literary and cinematic works of translation fiction to state-of-the-art translation theory and practice. It presents not just a mixed bag of cutting-edge views and perspectives, but great care has been taken to turn it into a well-rounded transficcionario with a fluid dialogue among its 22 chapters. Its investigation of translatorial action in the mirror of fiction (i.e. beyond the cognitive barrier of ‘fact’) and its multiple transdisciplinary trajectories make for thought-provoking readings in TS, comparative literature, as well as foreign language and literature courses.
Book Synopsis A Cognitive Linguistics View of Terminology and Specialized Language by : Pamela Faber
Download or read book A Cognitive Linguistics View of Terminology and Specialized Language written by Pamela Faber and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-07-04 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the importance of Cognitive Linguistics for specialized language within the context of Frame-based Terminology (FBT). FBT uses aspects of Frame Semantics, coupled with premises from Cognitive Linguistics to structure specialized domains and create non-language-specific knowledge representations. Corpus analysis provides information regarding the syntax, semantics, and pragmatics of specialized knowledge units. Also studied is the role of metaphor and metonymy in specialized texts. The first section explains the purpose and structure of the book. The second section gives an overview of basic concepts, theories, and applications in Terminology and Cognitive Linguistics. The third section explains the Frame-based Terminology approach. The fourth section explores the role of contextual information in specialized knowledge representation as reflected in linguistic contexts and graphical information. The final section highlights the conclusions that can be derived from this study.
Book Synopsis An Approach to Translation Criticism by : Lance Hewson
Download or read book An Approach to Translation Criticism written by Lance Hewson and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lance Hewson's book on translation criticism sets out to examine ways in which a literary text may be explored as a translation, not primarily to judge it, but to understand where the text stands in relation to its original by examining the interpretative potential that results from the translational choices that have been made. After considering theoretical aspects of translation criticism, Hewson sets out a method of analysing originals and their translations on three different levels. Tools are provided to describe translational choices and their potential effects, and applied to two corpora: Flaubert's Madame Bovary and six of the English translations, and Austen's Emma, with three of the French translations. The results of the analyses are used to construct a hypothesis about each translation, which is classified according to two scales of measurement, one distinguishing between "just" and "false" interpretations, and the other between "divergent similarity", "relative divergence", "radical divergence" and "adaptation".
Book Synopsis The Acquisition of French by : Philippe Prévost
Download or read book The Acquisition of French written by Philippe Prévost and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a thorough description of morphosyntactic knowledge developed by learners of French in four different learning situations first language (L1) acquisition, second (L2) language acquisition, bilingualism, and acquisition by children with Specific Language Impairment within the theoretical framework of generative grammar. This approach allows for multiple comparisons across acquisition contexts, which provides the reader with invaluable insights into the nature of the acquisition process. The book is divided into four parts each dealing with a major morphosyntactic domain of acquisition: the verbal domain, the pronominal domain, the nominal domain, and the CP domain. Each part contains four chapters, the first one presenting an overview of the basic facts and analyses of the relevant properties of French, and the next three focusing on the different acquisition contexts. This book will be useful to anyone interested in the acquisition of French and in language development in general. It is also meant to stimulate cross-linguistic research from a theoretical perspective."
Book Synopsis Contrastive Analysis of Discourse-pragmatic Aspects of Linguistic Genres by : Karin Aijmer
Download or read book Contrastive Analysis of Discourse-pragmatic Aspects of Linguistic Genres written by Karin Aijmer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-29 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume will give readers insight into how genres are characterised by the patterns of frequency and distribution of linguistic features across a number of European languages. The material presented in this book will also stimulate further corpus-based contrastive research including more languages, more genres and different types of corpora. This is the first special issue of the Yearbook of Corpus Linguistics and Pragmatics, a publication that addresses the interface between the two disciplines and offers a platform to scholars who combine both methodologies to present rigorous and interdisciplinary findings about language in real use. Corpus linguistics and Pragmatics have traditionally represented two paths of scientific thought, parallel but often mutually exclusive and excluding. Corpus Linguistics can offer a meticulous methodology based on mathematics and statistics, while Pragmatics is characterized by its effort in the interpretation of intended meaning in real language.
Book Synopsis The Romance Languages by : Rebecca Posner
Download or read book The Romance Languages written by Rebecca Posner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-09-05 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is a Romance language? How is one Romance language related to others? How did they all evolve? And what can they tell us about language in general? In this comprehensive survey Rebecca Posner, a distinguished Romance specialist, examines this group of languages from a wide variety of perspectives. Her analysis combines philological expertise with insights drawn from modern theoretical linguistics, both synchronic and diachronic. She relates linguistic features to historical and sociological factors, and teases out those elements which can be attributed to divergence from a common source and those which indicate convergence towards a common aim. Her discussion is extensively illustrated with new and original data, and an up-to-date and comprehensive bibliography is included. This volume will be an invaluable and authoritative guide for students and specialists alike.
