Book Synopsis Britain, France and the Decolonization of Africa by : Andrew W.M. Smith
Download or read book Britain, France and the Decolonization of Africa written by Andrew W.M. Smith and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2017-03-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Looking at decolonization in the conditional tense, this volume teases out the complex and uncertain ends of British and French empire in Africa during the period of ‘late colonial shift’ after 1945. Rather than view decolonization as an inevitable process, the contributors together explore the crucial historical moments in which change was negotiated, compromises were made, and debates were staged. Three core themes guide the analysis: development, contingency and entanglement. The chapters consider the ways in which decolonization was governed and moderated by concerns about development and profit. A complementary focus on contingency allows deeper consideration of how colonial powers planned for ‘colonial futures’, and how divergent voices greeted the end of empire. Thinking about entanglements likewise stresses both the connections that existed between the British and French empires in Africa, and those that endured beyond the formal transfer of power. Praise for Britain, France and the Decolonization of Africa '…this ambitious volume represents a significant step forward for the field. As is often the case with rich and stimulating work, the volume gestures towards more themes than I have space to properly address in this review. These include shifting terrains of temporality, spatial Scales, and state sovereignty, which together raise important questions about the relationship between decolonization and globalization. By bringing all of these crucial issues into the same frame,Britain, France and the Decolonization of Africa is sure to inspire new thought-provoking research.' - H-France vol. 17, issue 205

Book Synopsis Design Evolution by : Timothy Samara
Download or read book Design Evolution written by Timothy Samara and published by Rockport Pub. This book was released on 2008 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents diverse, international, in-depth case studies. While there are many books showcasing graphic design work, few present in-depth projects, exploring concept, designerAEs strategy, visual problem-solving, and specifics, illustrating the concrete use of design principles to achieve intended communication goals. As a result, readers are often left with only a surface understanding of how a project might have evolved or how the visual aspects of its design are brought together to convey its intended message. The case studies in Design Evolutioncomprehensively demonstrate the real-world application of visual principles discussed in a more formal, educational context. Readers will understand how the principles for image, layout, type, and color explored in volume 1, Design Elements, work in combination, to execute the overall solutions showcased in this volume. The depth and range of content presented in these case studies distinguishes this book from all others in the design showcase genre -- offering readers a chance to not only be inspired by the quality and innovation of showcased projects, but to understand how they were realized.

Book Synopsis Ecology Documentaries by : Susan Hayward
Download or read book Ecology Documentaries written by Susan Hayward and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This companion piece to Susan Hayward’s Film Ecology focuses on ecology documentaries produced in the first 20 years of the new millennium (2000–19). Using Kate Raworth’s regenerative economic theoretical model as set out in Doughnut Economics, this book examines 57 films emanating from Europe and the 4 areas of concern they raise about energy production, pollution and waste management, agribusiness, disrupted ecosystems and the migratory f low. These ecology documentaries make explicit the damage done to our planet thanks to growth capitalism and neoliberal globalisation. But they also provide the evidence that solutions to this planetary abuse exist. The book demonstrates how these documentaries reveal the process of humankind’s planetary plundering and explores the structuring of the eco-doc as a new generic type in the domain of documentary practice. Using Raworth’s model allows us to measure the tentacular extent of the planetary harm growth economics induces and, too, by way of contrast, perceive how regenerative economics can work to redress this harm, heal the Earth and make it a safe place for humanity. This book is ideal for film studies scholars and students, including those teaching or studying film practice, documentary film, European cinema and environmental studies, as well as economists interested in regenerative economic models. It also has general appeal to all who are concerned about some of the major causes of planetary degradation and its impact on humanity and Earth.
Book Synopsis Terre demain by : Olivier Honsperger
Download or read book Terre demain written by Olivier Honsperger and published by . This book was released on 2006-05-29 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis La Terre de demain by : Pape François
Download or read book La Terre de demain written by Pape François and published by Seuil. This book was released on 2021-03-25T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
