Download or read book Reclaiming Dietrich Bonhoeffer written by Charles Marsh and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1996-09-05 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Marsh offers a new way of reading the theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a Christian theologian who was executed for his role in the resistance against Hitler and the Nazis. Focusing on Bonhoeffer's substantial philosophical interests, Marsh examines his work in the context of the German philosophical tradition, from Kant through Hegel to Heidegger. Marsh argues that Bonhoeffer's description of human identity offers a compelling alternative to post-Kantian conceptions of selfhood. In addition, he shows that Bonhoeffer, while working within the boundaries of Barth's theology, provides both a critique and redescription of the tradition of transcendental subjectivity. This fresh look at Bonhoeffer's thought will provoke much discussion in the theological academy and the church, as well as in broader forums of intellectual life.

Download or read book Dietrich Bonhoeffer: un teólogo a contratiempo written by Eduardo Delas and published by Thomas Nelson Inc. This book was released on 2011-10-11 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Secularization in Igboland by : Charles Chikezie Agu
Download or read book Secularization in Igboland written by Charles Chikezie Agu and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 1989 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secularization is often presumed to be a phenomenon that is exclusive to the industrialized and technologically advanced countries. After a comprehensive survey of how secularization is understood and evaluated in various fields of knowledge, this study demonstrates that it has since become a feature of Igbo society. While colonialism and missionary activity initiated it, cultural, social, and ideological influences from Europe and North America now foster it. Generally, secularization challenges the Church and Christians to bear qualitative and culturally relevant witness to the gospel. In the Igbo context, this challenge includes the urgent necessity of incarnating the gospel into the people's culture.

Understanding the Church from Christ In the year 2006, we celebrated the centenary birth of one of the men whose thinking has most fertilized the theological thinking of the second half of the twentieth century. However, any approach to the understanding of Bonhoeffer lies in integrating life and thought, because his was always a “theology of knees” interpreted and incarnated from following Jesus and militancy in the church. That and no other, is the hermeneutical key that enables us to be at the correct point of observation to accept his vision of Christianity. His style as a teacher and his life inspired by Christian piety deserve to be unburied and placed at the service of the people of God in the present day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bonhoeffer's theological brilliance, committed discipleship, ecumenical insight and courageous participation in the struggle against Nazism have profoundly shaped contemporary Christian understanding and action. Although his early death at the hands of the Gestapo prevented him from providing us with a full and systematic theology, his writings are remarkably extensive and have become increasingly influential. This volume concentrates on the key texts and ideas in Bonhoeffer's thought. It presents the essential Bonhoeffer for students and the general reader. John de Gruchy's introductory essay and notes on the selected texts set Bonhoeffer in his historical context, chart the development of his thought and indicate the significance of his theology in the development of Christian theology as a whole. Substantial selections from Bonhoeffer's work illustrate key themes:His theological foundations Christology and reality Confessing Christ concretely The life of free responsibility Christ in a world come of age
