Book Synopsis A History of Child Psychoanalysis by : Pierre Geissmann
Download or read book A History of Child Psychoanalysis written by Pierre Geissmann and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-11-10 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Child analysis has occupied a special place in the history of psychoanalysis because of the challenges it poses to practitioners and the clashes it has provoked among its advocates. Since the early days in Vienna under Sigmund Freud child psychoanalysts have tried to comprehend and make comprehensible to others the psychosomatic troubles of childhood and to adapt clinical and therapeutic approaches to all the stages of development of the baby, the child, the adolescent and the young adult. Claudine and Pierre Geissmann trace the history and development of child analysis over the last century and assess the contributions made by pioneers of the discipline, whose efforts to expand its theoretical foundations led to conflict between schools of thought, most notably to the rift between Anna Freud and Melanie Klein. Now taught and practised widely in Europe, the USA and South America, child and adolescent psychoanalysis is unique in the insight it gives into the psychological aspects of child development, and in the therapeutic benefits it can bring both to the child and its family.

Book Synopsis Crosslinguistic Facets of the Subjunctive by : Liane Ströbel
Download or read book Crosslinguistic Facets of the Subjunctive written by Liane Ströbel and published by Akademische Verlagsgemeinschaft München. This book was released on 2023-11-20 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No other grammatical phenomenon causes as many problems in teaching and learning as the subjunctive. Most grammars devote as many pages to the presentation of the rules as to the exceptions. This becomes even more frustrating when dealing with the differences, not only between different language families, but even within the Romance language family alone, since it seems that each language shapes the functional area of the subjunctive individually. The aim of this volume is therefore to reconsider the representation of the subjunctive in Romance languages in a crosslinguistic and contrastive way. First, an overview of research in this area from the beginnings to the latest neurolinguistic findings will explore the complexity of the issue. Next, specific phenomena of the subjunctive at the interface of its functional domain with the indicative will be illustrated by means of appropriate case studies. On this basis, an attempt is made to trace the polyfunctionality and the differing uses in the Romance languages and beyond to a common pattern with language-specific margins. This allows us to explain, not only contrastive differences, but also the decline of the subjunctive in some domains and languages, as well as demonstrate the range of substitution possibilities. Finally, the view is extended to other language families and new impulses for foreign language teaching are presented. It distinguishes between what is new in child psychology, given that certain phenomena did not previously exist in a significant way in the lives of young people (such as homoparentality, attacks, cyber-bullying or Covid-19). It also examines new studies of subjects that already exist and have done so for a long time (intelligence, the mother-child relationship, etc.), but where significant theoretical developments have taken place in the contemporary period. Child Psychology explores the influences of culture and parenthood, parent-child attachment, cognitive development, the differences between boys and girls, gender and its stereotypes, health, illness and mortality, antisociality, activities and leisure

Book Synopsis Birth to Psychic Life by : Albert Ciccone
Download or read book Birth to Psychic Life written by Albert Ciccone and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-30 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on rich clinical experience and on theory from numerous psychoanalytical works, this book explores and analyzes the emergence and development of the psychic life. Birth to Psychic Life explores the genesis of the psychic apparatus, reconstructs the development of subjectivity, with its ups and downs in babies as in all subjects, and studies the relationship between mental states at the dawn of psychic life and those characteristic of psychopathology. The book refers to Freudian, Kleinian and post-Kleinian works, proposing articulations between the different theoretical models. The referenced works’ contributions to the understanding of early psychic disorders, as well as to the implications of infantile psychic suffering in adulthood, are essential. The authors identify the three psychic constellations, recognized by many, that accompany the psychic birth and suggest new more adequate names in view of current works on subjectivity: the auto-sensual position, the symbiotic position and the depressive position. Many other new and original proposals are developed by the authors. Providing tools to think about the processes of psychic growth, this book will be of interest to all psychoanalysts and psychotherapists working with infants and interested in the impact of early psychic development throughout life.
