Ces valeurs édumétriques sont fortement compromises lorsque l'objet et les critères d'évaluation ainsi que les pratiques évaluatives des évaluateurs ne tiennent pas compte des caractéristiques du concept de compétence, notamment son caractère développemental. Un système d'évaluation des compétences fondé sur le modèle cognitif de l'apprentissage, congruent avec le concept de compétence, est plus susceptible d'assurer la validité et l'équité des inférences évaluatives. La compétence "Exercer un jugement clinique infirmier" fut choisie pour élaborer un modèle cognitif de l'apprentissage pour les trois années de formation au baccalauréat en sciences infirmières. De plus, des indicateurs de développement ont été identifiés pour les trois niveaux de développement de cette même compétence. Une approche collaborative a été privilégiée pour atteindre ces objectifs. Le groupe collaboratif, composé de trois tutrices, de trois infirmières-monitrices et de la chercheuse, a analysé six récits d'expérience d'évaluation de cette compétence chez des étudiants de ce programme. L'analyse des données a conduit à une première version du modèle cognitif de l'apprentissage de la compétence "Exercer un jugement clinique infirmier" qui fut validée et améliorée par les partenaires de recherche. La logique de progression des apprentissages critiques et la concrétisation de ceux-ci par les indicateurs de développement ont été confirmées par des experts académiques. Les résultats montrent également des interinfluences entre les paramètres de cette compétence qui appuient la nécessité de réaliser tous les apprentissages critiques d'un même niveau pour l'atteindre. Les retombées de cette étude concernent les programmes de formation en sciences infirmières ainsi que ceux destinés à l'intégration des nouvelles infirmières dans les milieux cliniques. Les résultats de l'étude incitent aussi à poursuivre des recherches ultérieures pour compléter ce modèle cognitif de l'apprentissage et également à en construire pour d'autres compétences professionnelles."

Pour ce faire, un processus de traduction, d'adaptation et de validation de deux instruments de mesure a été nécessaire dont l'un, le SECEE, mesure la perception de l'environnement d'apprentissage clinique et l'autre, le PKPCT, mesure le pouvoir des étudiantes infirmières. L'étude de faisabilité poursuivait à travers son processus de validation des questionnaires d'autres objectifs soit l'évaluation du taux de réponse des étudiantes infirmières québécoises à ces questionnaires, l'évaluation des qualités psychométriques des deux questionnaires ainsi que, de façon exploratoire, l'évaluation d'une possible relation entre la perception de l'environnement d'apprentissage clinique et le pouvoir. La formation collégiale des infirmières québécoises est particulière dans la mesure où on ne retrouve aucune structure pédagogique comparable dans d'autres provinces ou pays. Ainsi, aucun questionnaire de langue française, adapté à la réalité québécoise et mesurant la perception_ de l'environnement d'apprentissage clinique des étudiantes infirmières n'a été recensé. Le pouvoir est un élément utile à l'apprentissage et semble, selon certains auteurs, étroitement lié à l'environnement. Alors que Griggs (1984) et Smith (1988) affirment que le pouvoir est un outil qui permet de changer son environnement Pearson (1998), quant à lui, affirme que l'environnement influence le pouvoir des individus. Afin d'examiner cette relation théorique entre les concepts de perception de l'environnement d'apprentissage clinique et de pouvoir, un instrument mesurant le pouvoir traduit en langue française et adapté à la réalité québécoise est nécessaire. Aucune version francophone du questionnaire PKPCT et adaptée à la réalité francophone n'a été recensée. La traduction, l'adaptation et la validation des questionnaires SECEE et PKPCT se sont déroulées en trois étapes: (1) traduction des questionnaires par la méthode de Brislin; (2) consultation d'experts par la méthode de Delphi; (3) enquête pour mesurer les qualités psychométriques des instruments et évaluer la relation entre 1a perception de l'environnement d'apprentissage clinique et le pouvoir. L'enquête s'est déroulée auprès de 95 étudiantes en soins infirmiers québécoises étudiant dans trois, établissements d'enseignement collégial de la Montérégie. Les qualités psychométriques évaluées étaient la validité de construit, la consistance interne et la validité discriminante. Les' instruments traduits et adaptés se sont comportés de façon similaire aux questionnaires originaux démontrant ainsi des qualités psychométriques acceptables. Comme il s'agit d'une première validation de ces instruments dans la langue française et dans la réalité québécoise, des études ultérieures seront nécessaires pour continuer l'évaluation des qualités psychométriques des deux instruments telles que la stabilité et ce, à plus grande échelle.
