Book Synopsis The Routledge International Handbook of Economic Sociology by : Milan Zafirovski
Download or read book The Routledge International Handbook of Economic Sociology written by Milan Zafirovski and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-05-12 with total page 862 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook presents a systematic and comprehensive overview of economic sociology, an exemplary interdisciplinary field which draws on theoretical frameworks and empirical findings from both economics and sociology to present a unique lens on the interdependence of the economy and society. The handbook is arranged in four parts which together present the current state-of-the-art of economic sociology as well as pointing toward future directions for research. The first part outlines the theoretical foundations of economic sociology and its relations to other fields, particularly with regard to other alternative approaches to economics, and looks at conceptions and definitions of economic sociology vary. The second part provides an overview of the historical development of economic sociology from classical political economy to the present day. The third part explores the main problematics of economic sociology, analyzing the economy in relation to particular social institutions, the state, ideology, culture and art, religion, gender, race/ethnicity, and more. The fourth part focuses on the principal branches including sociology of the market, industrial organization and work, uncertainty, distribution and inequality, money and finance, and the environment. The stellar international cast of contributors is drawn from both economics and sociology, therefore presenting a holistic view of the field and contributing to a rejuvenation of economic sociology within economics. It is an indispensable reference work for researchers and students across a broad range of sociological and economic disciplines.

Download or read book International Labour Law Reports written by Zvi H. Bar-Niv and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 1979-10-11 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "International Labour Law Reports (ILLR) is a series of annual publications of labour law judgments by the highest courts in a number of jurisdictions. "ILLR is a particularly useful resource for judges, labour law practitioners, industrial relations specialists, and students who seek ready access to authoritative information of a comparative nature on problems arising in the field of labour law and industrial relations. "ILLR accompanies each reprinted judgement with Headnotes and, in practically all cases, an Annotation which sets forth, among other things, -the legal issues involved, - the basic facts of the case (if not included in the judgment itself), - the relevant statutory provisions and judicial precedents, - the labour law and industrial relations context in which the case arose, and - the significance of the judgment in the development of the law. "ILLR" provides the reader with factual information not coloured by the personal views of the annotators. As a rule, judgments are printed in extenso; the editors summarize or cut portions of judgments that are purely technical or only of marginal interest. "ILLR" also provides a list of cases both by jurisdiction and by subject matter. As a result, this work offers the reader a concise, readily-accessed statement of law. Volume 16 covers the period 1 October 1995 to 30 September 1996. (Volume 15 covers the period 1 October 1994 to 30 September 1995 and is also available, as are all earlier volumes.)

Book Synopsis Why International Organizations Hate Politics by : Marieke Louis
Download or read book Why International Organizations Hate Politics written by Marieke Louis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-05 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the concept of depoliticization, this book provides a first systematic analysis of International Organizations (IO) apolitical claims. It shows that depoliticization sustains IO everyday activities while allowing them to remain engaged in politics, even when they pretend not to. Delving into the inner dynamics of global governance, this book develops an analytical framework on why IOs "hate" politics by bringing together practices and logics of depoliticization in a wide variety of historical, geographic and organizational contexts. With multiple case studies in the fields of labor rights and economic regulation, environmental protection, development and humanitarian aid, peacekeeping, among others this book shows that depoliticization is enacted in a series of overlapping, sometimes mundane, practices resulting from the complex interaction between professional habits, organizational cultures and individual tactics. By approaching the consequences of these practices in terms of logics, the book addresses the instrumental dimension of depoliticization without assuming that IO actors necessarily intend to depoliticize their action or global problems. For IO scholars and students, this book sheds new light on IO politics by clarifying one often taken-for-granted dimension of their everyday activities, precisely that of depoliticization. It will also be of interest to other researchers working in the fields of political science, international relations, international political sociology, international political economy, international public administration, history, law, sociology, anthropology and geography as well as IO practitioners.
