Any entity with a finite life span faces extinction, if it is not reproduced. Evolutionary reproduction must not be completely (100%) perfect, because perfection and evolution mutually exclude each other! On the other hand, this deviation from perfection has to be very small (close to 0%) to be accepted and seen as reproduction. But what is the criterion for perfection, for a (nearly) exact reproduction? A deviation from perfection (mutation) can only be observed and recognised, when the accuracy of measuring is good enough! At this point it needs to be understood that neither reproduction nor the accuracy of measuring will ever be perfect or exact but we call something perfect, when we can't measure a deviation! Evolution is complementary. Reproduction enforces order as orderly structures are easier reproducible than chaotic ones and on the other hand evolution makes a small amount of disorder (mutations) necessary. This complementarity or schizophrenia is the pulse of life, of time, of evolution and of a symbiotic cosmos.

The proposed methodology is practical and innovative, and assumes a dynamic valence in defining the deformation process of underground failure as well as its activation through the assumption of a four-dimensional space-time continuum. This latter aspect is crucial for predicting a landslide in time to control it. At present, predicting, preventing and controlling hydrogeological instability in cohesive soils relies on mathematical modelling using specific software, the predictive reliability of which is rather deficient. Such modelling is based upon deterministic processes, which are entirely unsuitable for dealing with the complexity of vital processes occurring during the genesis of a landslide. In this work, the three-dimensional vision of a landslide as a set of distinct and independent phenomena is abandoned and the prediction and prevention of hydrogeological instability is pursued through the alternative of an indivisible totality of natural phenomena that includes the time factor. The book is of interest to graduates and researchers of applied geology, geotechnical, environmental and civil engineering, as well as professionals in the fields of hydrogeology and natural hazards.

La sua cattiva fama prende piede quando si inoltra in campi come l’etica e la religione che per loro natura mal sopportano di essere sottoposte a indagine razionale. I libri di Protagora vengono bruciati nella pubblica piazza di Atene non perché l’autore si sia reso colpevole di ragionamenti paradossali, quanto piuttosto perché tali ragionamenti ha provato a estendere alla religione, affermando di non poter sostenere né che gli dei sono, né che non sono. Nel momento in cui la ragione prende a occuparsi della divinità diventa fatalmente blasfema, così come nel momento in cui si occupa dell’autorità finisce col risultare irriverente."
