En France, seule 8 % de la population réside dans une commune sous-dense en médecins généralistes. Dans certains pays comme la Suède ou la Finlande, la délégation de tâches vers d'autres professionnels a permis de libérer du temps aux médecins. Plusieurs études ont montré un bénéfice de l'intervention du pharmacien dans la prise en charge des patients. L'objectif de ce travail était d'analyser les perceptions qu'ont les patients de la place du pharmacien d'officine dans leur recours aux soins primaires. Méthode : une étude qualitative par entretiens individuels semi-dirigés a été menée auprès de patients recrutés en cabinet de médecine générale et en pharmacie d'officine. Le recrutement a été fait directement par la chercheuse ou par les pharmaciens et médecins des lieux de recrutement jusqu'à suffisance des données en recherchant un échantillonnage hétérogène selon l'âge, le sexe, le lieu d'habitation, la profession et la prise ou non d'un traitement au long cours. Les entretiens ont été retranscrits et analysés par regroupement thématique des données. Un double codage a été réalisé. Résultats : la proximité géographique du pharmacien en fait un interlocuteur privilégié et un acteur de premier plan en soins primaires. Les patients sont souvent fidèles au même pharmacien et entretiennent avec lui une relation de confiance. Ils considèrent le pharmacien comme un professionnel de santé à part entière qu'ils peuvent solliciter en premier recours. Ils sont favorables à l'élargissement des missions du pharmacien ce qui permettrait de libérer du temps aux médecins et favoriserait la coopération interprofessionnelle. Conclusion : le pharmacien est un acteur essentiel des soins de premier recours. La coopération interprofessionnelle est considérée par les patients comme indispensable à des soins de qualité. Le développement d'Équipes de Soins Primaires ou de Communautés Professionnelles Territoriales de Santé permet de décloisonner les soins et aide les professionnels à se coordonner autour d'un objectif commun : la santé des patients.
