Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For too many centuries, the Catholic Church has been teaching lies to the innocent people who apparently are unable to think clearly for themselves. Catholic clergymen pretend to be “representatives of God,” with power to forgive the sins of other human beings, and also to transform the host, and the wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ, in order for the faithful to eat and drink it as cannibals. They also pretend that their mass is a repetition of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, when Jesus died and resurrected almost two thousand years ago. They are also teaching several other lies, wanting people to accept the great number of “saints” and “virgins,” who really are just dead people. God the Father forbids us to communicate with dead persons, without exception. The most important lies are refuted in this book, not by the author, but by the Bible and the Gospels, because The Bible never lies.

Book Synopsis Voices, Visions, and a New Reality by : J. Ann Duncan
Download or read book Voices, Visions, and a New Reality written by J. Ann Duncan and published by University of Pittsburgh Pre. This book was released on 2010-11-23 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces to a larger audience the work of a group of Mexican writers whose work reflects the stimulus of the "boom" of the 1960s, especially in the experimental nueva novella.Duncan views the work of six writers in the context of more well known writers of the period (Ruflo, Fuentes, and Del Paso), and concludes with a chapter on other recent innovators in Mexican literature. Despite their diversity, these texts share many common features, and unlike social realism, the works are not openly political, but at the same time they question assumptions about reality itself-and the relation of fiction to truth.

Book excerpt: The sister of “La Diva de la Banda”—legendary Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera—opens up for the first time about Jenni’s untimely death and her own triumph over abuse and addiction. Growing up as the youngest Rivera, Rosie was surrounded by unconditional love, support, and affection. There was nothing that her family wouldn’t do for her, especially her sister Jenni, who was the most important thing in the world to Rosie. With her strong will and a solid foundation, Rosie was set to conquer the world. Yet life would take a drastic turn when Rivera was scarred by sexual abuse within her family at a very young age. Living in fear and confined by painful secrets, she was plagued with constant threats, confusion, and pain. Not only was she stripped of her childhood and innocence, but she was also robbed of her confidence and self-worth. Feeling completely shattered and lost, Rivera plunged into a world of damaging habits and deep depression. For the first time ever, and with unflinching candor and courage, Rosie shares the traumatic details of her abuse and the daily struggle to live and how, through faith and the love of her family, she found life once more. Yet Rosie’s life would be severely impacted once again as the worst tragedy imaginable hit and her biggest fear came to reality—the death of her beloved sister. Equally harrowing and uplifting, Rosie’s story is a true testament to beating the odds and proves that despite the worst of times and no matter how many more challenges life has in store, it is always possible to pick up the pieces and find the strength and purpose to dream and live again. Book Synopsis Remembering Transitions by : Ksenia Robbe
Download or read book Remembering Transitions written by Ksenia Robbe and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-10-04 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers critical perspectives on memories of political and socioeconomic ‘transitions’ that took place between the 1970s and 1990s across the globe and that inaugurated the end of the Cold War. The essays respond to a wealth of recent works of literature, film, theatre, and other media in different languages that rethink the transformations of those decades in light of present-day crises. The authors scrutinize the enduring silences produced by established frameworks of memory and time and explore the mnemonic practices that challenge these frameworks by positing radical ambivalence or by articulating new perspectives and subjectivities. As a whole, the volume contributes to current debates and theory-making in critical memory studies by reflecting on how the changing recollection of transitions constitutes a response to the crisis of memory and time regimes, and how remembering these times as crises renders visible continuities between this past and the present. It is a valuable resource for academics, students, practitioners, and general readers interested in exploring the dynamics of memory in post-authoritarian societies.

Book Synopsis The Novel, Volume 1 by : Franco Moretti
Download or read book The Novel, Volume 1 written by Franco Moretti and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2022-04-12 with total page 926 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly as global in its ambition and sweep as its subject, Franco Moretti's The Novel is a watershed event in the understanding of the first truly planetary literary form. A translated selection from the epic five-volume Italian Il Romanzo (2001-2003), The Novel's two volumes are a unified multiauthored reference work, containing more than one hundred specially commissioned essays by leading contemporary critics from around the world. Providing the first international comparative reassessment of the novel, these essential volumes reveal the form in unprecedented depth and breadth--as a great cultural, social, and human phenomenon that stretches from the ancient Greeks to today, where modernity itself is unimaginable without the genre. By viewing the novel as much more than an aesthetic form, this landmark collection demonstrates how the genre has transformed human emotions and behavior, and the very perception of reality. Historical, statistical, and formal analyses show the novel as a complex literary system, in which new forms proliferate in every period and place. Volume 1: History, Geography, and Culture, looks at the novel mostly from the outside, treating the transition from oral to written storytelling and the rise of narrative and fictionality, and covering the ancient Greek novel, the novel in premodern China, the early Spanish novel, and much else, including readings of novels from around the world. These books will be essential reading for all students and scholars of literature.

Book Synopsis Lies We Believe About God by : Wm. Paul Young
Download or read book Lies We Believe About God written by Wm. Paul Young and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of the bestselling novel The Shack and the New York Times bestsellers Cross Roads and Eve comes a compelling, conversational exploration of twenty-eight assumptions about God—assumptions that just might be keeping us from experiencing His unconditional, all-encompassing love. In his wildly popular novels, Wm. Paul Young portrayed the Triune God in ways that challenged our thinking—sometimes upending long-held beliefs, but always centered in the eternal, all-encompassing nature of God’s love. Now, in Wm. Paul Young’s first nonfiction book, he invites us to revisit our assumptions about God—this time using the Bible, theological discussion, and personal anecdotes. Paul encourages us to think through beliefs we’ve presumed to be true and consider whether some might actually be false. Expounding on the compassion fans felt from the “Papa” portrayed in The Shack—now a major film starring Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer—Paul encourages you to think anew about important issues including sin, religion, hell, politics, identity, creation, human rights, and helping us discover God’s deep and abiding love.

Book Synopsis Galdos: Dona Perfecta by : Benito Pérez Galdós
Download or read book Galdos: Dona Perfecta written by Benito Pérez Galdós and published by Aris & Phillips Hispanic Class. This book was released on 2009 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Benito Perez Galdos (1843-1920) was a prolific Spanish realist novelist, who through a lack of good translations is virtually unknown outside Spain, though he has been compared as second only to Cervantes in Spanish literature and whose work is considered to give the deepest, truest, most comprehensive realities of Spain. Dona Perfecta (1876) was Galdos' first novel delving into the social world of middle-class Spain in the 19th century; a young liberal arrives in an imaginary cathedral city, with the intention of marrying his cousin. However the church interferes and obstructs the marriage, leading to a tragic clash between the traditional, provincial outlook and modern, liberal outlook of Madrid. Graham Whittaker's edition with Spanish text, English translation and substantial introduction aims to make this important novel widely available in English and the introduction and notes provide a comprehensive overview of the novel and Galdos' work.
