Comme la lecture politique ou sociologique des organisations, elle propose aux chercheurs des concepts spécifiques, une méthodologie propre et une quasi-théorie qui se situe au même niveau que la théorie de la lutte pour le pouvoir de la sociologie des organisations. En effet, sur ce dernier point, on peut considérer que les concepts de « système relationnel », de « valeur émergente du système », de « négociation impossible sur des problèmes clés », « d’imbrication des jeux dans des métasystèmes réglés par des métajeux », fournissent une vision théorique de l’organisation du même degré de généralité que les concepts de « zones d’incertitude », de « maîtrise de ces zones », de « ressources » des acteurs et de « lutte pour le pouvoir » de la sociologie des organisations. En fait, l’approche systémique et communicationnelle généralise aux organisations l’approche interactionniste et systémique de l’école de Palo Alto. Elle permet aussi d’intégrer l’étude des jeux de l’analyse transactionnelle dans une modélisation systémique plus vaste. Elle permet également de revisiter les concepts de « style de management » pour proposer des « jeux managériaux typiques ». Elle renouvelle les études sur la manipulation, les contraintes et la liberté, le changement et la sécurité, la valeur professionnelle et la reconnaissance identitaire ainsi que les études sur le pouvoir dans les organisations. L’approche systémique et communicationnelle des organisations ouvre donc de nouvelles pistes de recherche en communication organisationnelle.
