Book Synopsis Hacia el sistema de Unamuno by : Ciriaco Morón Arroyo
Download or read book Hacia el sistema de Unamuno written by Ciriaco Morón Arroyo and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book La novela de Unamuno written by Francisco de Jesús Ángeles Cerón and published by Editorial Biblos. This book was released on 2023-12-26 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Three Spanish Philosophers by : Jose Ferrater Mora
Download or read book Three Spanish Philosophers written by Jose Ferrater Mora and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection provides an excellent introduction to three of the most important names in twentieth-century Spanish philosophy: Miguel de Unamuno (1864–1936), José Ortega y Gasset (1883–1955), and José Ferrater Mora (1912–1991). The thought-provoking work of these great contemporary philosophers offers a rich and penetrating insight into human existence. Originally written by Ferrater Mora in the middle of the last century, his interpretations of Unamuno and Ortega are considered classics, and the chapter on his own thought reflects his mature thinking about being and death. Each essay is introduced by noted Ferrater Mora scholar J. M. Terricabras and contains updated biographical and bibliographic information.
Book Synopsis Unamuno and Kierkegaard by : Jan E. Evans
Download or read book Unamuno and Kierkegaard written by Jan E. Evans and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2005 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miguel de Unamuno was profoundly influenced by S ren Kierkegaard's pseudonymous works at a time when Kierkegaard was virtually unknown in Southern Europe. This book explores the scope and character of that influence, clarifies misconceptions in the relationship between the authors, and offers an original, Kierkegaardian reading of three of Unamuno's best known novels: Niebla, San Manuel Bueno, m rtir, and Abel S nchez. Both authors hold a "self as achievement" view in which the authentic self is seen as the result of the choices one makes over a lifetime. For Kierkegaard, the spheres of existence-the esthetic, the ethical, and the religious-are "stages on life's way" to becoming an authentic self before God. Unamuno, however, holds that the same spheres of existence offer equally valid modes of authentic existence as long as one chooses them freely and passionately. This book will be of great interest to scholars of existentialism, Unamuno, and Kierkegaard.

Book Synopsis Volume 9: Kierkegaard and Existentialism by : Jon Stewart
Download or read book Volume 9: Kierkegaard and Existentialism written by Jon Stewart and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There can be no doubt that most of the thinkers who are usually associated with the existentialist tradition, whatever their actual doctrines, were in one way or another influenced by the writings of Kierkegaard. This influence is so great that it can be fairly stated that the existentialist movement was largely responsible for the major advance in Kierkegaard's international reception that took place in the twentieth century. In Kierkegaard's writings one can find a rich array of concepts such as anxiety, despair, freedom, sin, the crowd, and sickness that all came to be standard motifs in existentialist literature. Sartre played an important role in canonizing Kierkegaard as one of the forerunners of existentialism. However, recent scholarship has been attentive to his ideological use of Kierkegaard. Indeed, Sartre seemed to be exploiting Kierkegaard for his own purposes and suspicions of misrepresentation and distortions have led recent commentators to go back and reexamine the complex relation between Kierkegaard and the existentialist thinkers. The articles in the present volume feature figures from the French, German, Spanish and Russian traditions of existentialism. They examine the rich and varied use of Kierkegaard by these later thinkers, and, most importantly, they critically analyze his purported role in this famous intellectual movement.
Book Synopsis El derecho y la fuerza. Miguel de Unamuno by : Eugenio Lujan Palma
Download or read book El derecho y la fuerza. Miguel de Unamuno written by Eugenio Lujan Palma and published by Punto Rojo Libros. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Miguel de Unamuno's Quest for Faith by : Jan E Evans
Download or read book Miguel de Unamuno's Quest for Faith written by Jan E Evans and published by James Clarke & Company. This book was released on 2014-06-26 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miguel de Unamuno (1864-1936) was a extraordinary Spanish thinker, a philosopher, linguist, poet, novelist, short story writer, essayist, playwright, professor, university administrator, and Spanish public intellectual. He had great intellectual integrity and moral courage. Unamuno is not an easy philosopher to read. He loved paradoxes and even (at times) contradictions. Various interpreters have called him an atheist, a sceptic, a Protestant, a pantheist, a Catholic modernist, and a good Catholic. Passages can be found in his writings that can be taken to support all of these interpretations. In the present book, Jan E. Evans does an incisive and thorough job of sorting through the Unamuno corpus and arriving at a definitive interpretation of his views. One great asset of Evans' work is the insight she gains by comparing Unamuno's works with the philosophers whom he admired most and considered his fellow travellers in the tragic sense of life. These include Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), William James (1842-1910), and especially Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855). This book examines the life and work of Unamuno through the lens of his faith. Those who are not familiar with Unamuno will find here a clear exposition of the most important themes in the thinker's work along with a framework through which one can profitably begin to read his primary texts.
Book Synopsis Evolución del pensamiento político de Unamuno by : Manuel M.ª Urrutia
Download or read book Evolución del pensamiento político de Unamuno written by Manuel M.ª Urrutia and published by Universidad de Deusto. This book was released on 2009-01-15 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Great Chiasmus written by Paul R. Olson and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2003-05-06 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Great Chiasmus, Paul R. Olson explores the use of the chiasmus in the work of Miguel de Unamuno. The chiasmus, a reversal in the order of words or parts of speech in parallel phrases, appears on a variety of levels, from brief microstructures (blanca como la nieve y como la nieve fria), to the narrative structures of entire novel. Olson even suggests the chiasmus encompasses the stages in Unamuno's novelistic work, forming a chiasmus that can be schematized as ABC: CBA. As a phenomenon of enclosure, the chiasmus is related to other enclosing phenomena such as the image of Chinese boxes and the mise en abyme. These structures, three-dimensional version of the chiasmus, are also frequent in Unamuno's texts. The chiasmus is also found on the conceptual level, in which Unamuno regards apparent contraries as freely reversible and thus identical. From early adulthood he was fascinated by the Hegelian idea of the identity of pure Being and pure Nothingness, and that concept provides the structure underlying a wide variety of his paradoxes and verbal conceits. In this connection, Unamuno explores concepts usually considered opposites, such as mind and body or spirit and matter. Olson's close readings of the texts in terms of this structure lead to observations on Spanish history, events in Unamuno's life, the psychological dimensions of his characters, and the authorial self that is found within his texts.
