Download or read book El Retorno de la Feminidad Sagrada y el Alma del Mundo written by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee and published by The Golden Sufi Center. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Evolución y complejidad by : Jordi Bascompte Sacrets
Download or read book Evolución y complejidad written by Jordi Bascompte Sacrets and published by Universitat de València. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Spiritual Evolution of Margarito Bautista by : Elisa Eastwood Pulido
Download or read book The Spiritual Evolution of Margarito Bautista written by Elisa Eastwood Pulido and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-23 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first full-length biography of Margarito Bautista (1878-1961), a celebrated Latino Mormon leader in the U.S. and Mexico in the early twentieth century who was a Mexican cultural nationalist, visionary, founder of a utopian commune, and Mormon dissident. Surprisingly little is known about Bautista's remarkable life, the scope of his work, or the development of his vision. Elisa Eastwood Pulido draws on his letters, books, pamphlets, and unpublished diaries to provide a lens through which to view the convergence of Mormon evangelization, Mexican nationalism, and religious improvisation in the U.S. Mexico borderlands. A successful proselytizer of Mexicans for years, from 1922 onward Bautista came to view the paternalism of the Euro-American leadership of the Church as a barrier to ecclesiastical self-governance by indigenous Latter-day Saints . In 1924, he began his journey away from mainstream Mormonism. By 1946, he had established a completely Mexican-led polygamist utopia in Mexico on the slopes of the volcano Popocateptl, twenty-two kilometers southeast of Mexico City. Here, he preached an alternative Mormonism rooted in Mesoamerican history and culture. Based on his indigenous hermeneutic of Mormon scripture, Bautista proclaimed that the indigenous peoples of the Americas were a chosen race, destined to wrest both political and spiritual authority from the descendants of Euro-American colonists. This book provides an in-depth look at a man still regarded with cultural pride by those Mexican and Mexican American Mormons who remember him as an iconic and revolutionary figure.

Book Synopsis Desired States by : Lessie Jo Frazier
Download or read book Desired States written by Lessie Jo Frazier and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-12 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Desired States challenges the notion that in some cultures, sex and sexuality have become privatized and located in individual subjectivity rather than in public political practices and institutions. Instead, the book contends that desire is a central aspect of political culture. Based on fieldwork and archival research, Frazier explores the gendered and sexualized dynamics of political culture in Chile, an imperialist context, asking how people connect with and become mobilized in political projects in some cases or, in others, become disaffected or are excluded to varying degrees. The book situates the state in a rich and changing context of transnational and localized movements, imperialist interests, geo-political conflicts, and market forces to explore the broader struggles of desiring subjects, especially in those dimensions of life that are explicitly sexual and amorous: free love movements, marriage, the sixties’ sexual revolution in Cold War contexts, prostitution policies, ideas about men’s gratification, the charisma of leaders, and sexual/domestic violence against women.
Book Synopsis Cultural Phylogenetics by : Larissa Mendoza Straffon
Download or read book Cultural Phylogenetics written by Larissa Mendoza Straffon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-10 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the potential and challenges of implementing evolutionary phylogenetic methods in archaeological research, by discussing key concepts and presenting concrete applications of these approaches. The volume is divided into two parts: The first covers the theoretical and conceptual implications of using evolution-based models in the sociocultural domain, illustrates the sorts of questions that these methods can help answer, and invites the reader to reflect on the opportunities and limitations of these perspectives. The second part comprises case studies that address relevant empirical issues, such as inferring patterns and rates of cultural transmission, detecting selective pressures in cultural evolution, and explaining the nature of cultural variation. This book will appeal to archaeologists interested in applying evolutionary thinking and inferential methods to their field, and to anyone interested in cultural evolution studies.
