Por lo tanto, la investigación da respuesta a la siguiente pregunta ¿Cómo es la estructura organizacional que predomina en las pequeñas empresas constructoras de la localidad?In this research an analysis is presented of how small construction companies are structured from an organizational stance in the State of Puebla, Mexico. To identify their complexity, centralization and formally several authors who are involved in this issue were taken into consideration as theoretical support. Later some elements were taken into account by means of the application of a questionnaire to a sample of 44 small construction companies. The focus of this research is to determine the type of organizational structure used in those companies. Therefore, the research question is: How is the organizational structure that prevails in small construction companies in Puebla, Mexico?

A fin de caracterizar la cultura organizacional como sustento teórico, se analizaron diversos autores relacionados con el tema, para posteriormente considerar algunos aspectos que fueron medidos a través de la aplicación de un cuestionario con escala de Likert, a una muestra de 91 trabajadores administrativos de las mismas. El objetivo de la investigación fue conocer el tipo de cultura organizacional que prevalece en las pequeñas empresas constructoras en Puebla, por lo tanto las preguntas de investigación planteadas son; Qué tipo de cultura organizacional identifica a las pequeñas empresas constructoras de Puebla?: Cuál es la influencia de las mismas en la efectividad organizacional? Entre los resultados se encontró que el modelo de regresión empleado explica un 67.1% de las variaciones en la efectividad, además no existe evidencia estadística de variables omitidas (test de la constante 2.255).English Abstract: This research analyzes types of organizational culture and its relationship with organizational effectiveness in small construction businesses in Puebla. To characterize the organizational culture, we consider some aspects that were measured through a questionnaire based on a Likert's scale to 91 administrative workers of the same companies. The objective was to identify the type of organizational culture that prevails in small construction companies in Puebla. The research questions are; What type of organizational culture is related to small construction businesses in Puebla?: What is their influence in organizational effectiveness? We found that the regression model explains a 67.1% of variation in effectiveness, however, there is no statistical evidence of omitted variables (2,255 constant test).

Book excerpt: This paper analyzes types of leadership and their relationship with organizational effectiveness in small construction enterprises of Puebla. An analysis of various literature related to the topic was examined, for a theoretical basis. Next, some aspects were measured through a Likert-scale questionnaire, using a sample of 49 small construction businesses. The goal is to describe how leadership styles, in small construction businesses located in Puebla, are perceived, along with how to determine their relationships with the organizational effectiveness. The following research question arose: What type of leadership dominates the small construction businesses of Puebla? What is the relationship among organizational effectiveness and the types of leadership? The results of the investigation show a positive and significant correlation between effectiveness, and democratic leadership, and Laissez-faire (liberal) leadership. The regression model used explains 69.1% of the variations in effectiveness. In addition, there is no statistical evidence of omitted variables (the constant test = 0. 914).

In the era of modern development, however, rural-urban migration intensified in an unprecedented way and many rural communities depopulated. While during the pre-industrial period migration had contributed to the economic and social reproduction of rural communities, it now challenged the continuity of the rural lifestyle. This book analyses the topic for the case of Spain, which in the twentieth century experienced one of the most intense processes of rural depopulation in modern Europe. The interaction between Spanish industrialisation and rural migration, the demographic implications of agrarian change, the obstacles to the development of rural non-farm activities, the rural problems of access to infrastructures and services, the role of public policy, and the consequences of depopulation for the rural community are the central elements of this study, which inserts the Spanish case within its European context. Distanced from both the anti-modern stance that idealises paradise lost and the Panglossian mood that welcomes anything that came with modernisation, the book explains how the adaptive strategies put into practice by rural populations led to a “peaceful surrender” of traditional rural society.

Book excerpt: New firm formation is a critical driver of job creation, and an important contributor to the responsiveness of the economy to aggregate shocks. In this paper we examine the characteristics of the individuals who become entrepreneurs when local opportunities arise due to an increase in local demand. We identify local demand shocks by linking fluctuations in global commodity prices to municipality level agricultural endowments in Brazil. We find that the firm creation response is almost entirely driven by young and skilled individuals, as measured by their level of experience, education, and past occupations involving creativity, problem-solving and managerial roles. In contrast, we find no such response within the same municipalities among skilled, yet older individuals, highlighting the importance of lifecycle considerations. These responsive individuals are younger and more skilled than the average entrepreneur in the population. The entrepreneurial response of young individuals is larger in municipalities with better access to finance, and in municipalities with more skilled human capital. These results highlight how the characteristics of the local population can have a significant impact on the entrepreneurial responsiveness of the economy.
