Book excerpt: En el estudio que presentamos aquí, en gran medida repetición y comparación con un estudio anterior realizado metodológicamente siguiendo las pautas de comparabilidad necesarias, seguimos presentando datos y cifras que no aparecen en los registros oficiales, sobretodo actitudes y motivacones que llevan a muchos jóvenes en el contexto de la crisis a emprender una experiencia migratoria. Los resultados obtendios pretenden dar un paso más en el sentido de añadir aportaciones que se incorporen desde una perspectiva longitudinal con respecto al estudio anterior de 2013/14 intentando hacer una cierta línea continúa en el devenir de la movilidad juvenil entre los entrevistados hace cinco años, también se incorporan las opiniones de algunos retornados tratando de comenzar a estudiar la realidad de muchos casos de retorno aunque todavía es pronto para conocer su comportamiento en términos de cifras, pero sí empezar a conocer aspectos motivacionales que guían la permanencia en el exterior o el regreso a España por parte de los jóvenes que han salido y siguen saliendo (aunque los datos ya anuncian un decrecimiento de este fenómeno). Los datos presentados en este estudio nos ofrecen algunas pistas que ayuden por el momento, a conocer y entender los flujos y las variaciones del reciente movimiento emigratorio de una parte de los jóvenes españoles hacia algunos otros países; también a conocer mejor los motivos y las expectativas atribuidas a su marcha, así como las expectativas vinculadas a su posible retorno.

Book excerpt: This open access book looks at the migration of Southern European EU citizens (from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece) who move to Northern European Member States (Belgium, France, Germany, United Kingdom) in response to the global economic crisis. Its objective is twofold. First, it identifies the scale and nature of this new Southern European emigration and examines these migrants’ socio-economic integration in Northern European destination countries. This is achieved through an analysis of the most recent data on flows and profiles of this new labour force using sending-country and receiving-country databases. Second, it looks at the politics and policies of immigration, both from the perspective of the sending- and receiving-countries. Analysing the policies and debates about these new flows in the home and host countries’ this book shows how contentious the issue of intra-EU mobility has recently become in the context of the crisis when the right for EU citizens to move within the EU had previously not been questioned for decades. Overall, the strength of this edited volume is that it compiles in a systematic way quantitative and qualitative analysis of these renewed Southern European migration flows and draws the lessons from this changing climate on EU migration.
