This book was released on 2018 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do people with experience still make errors? How can we explain the omission of a step in a process or the reversal of a sample during a medical analysis, for example? What if it's all about neuroscience? We cannot always rely on our brain. The automatisms we acquire, although indispensable, can sometimes play tricks on us and lead us to make errors, which constitutes a danger not only for ourselves, but also for others. With the help of the latest research in neuroscience and 25 years of experience in consulting, observation of work situations and training, Isabelle Simonetto explains the functioning of the human brain in a playful, accessible and innovative way. Thanks to exercises, concrete examples and memo cards, the reader will be able to understand the various pitfalls inherent to the properties of the brain. The author also presents practical advice and techniques that can be directly applied in all professional sectors. An indispensable book for all those who wish to improve their security and reliability in their professional and personal lives. A unique book that mobilizes neuroscience to improve the safety and management of companies! ABOUT THE AUTHOR Isabelle Simonetto is a doctor in neuroscience, a lecturer and a consultant specialized in behavioral neurobiology. Since 2006, she has been working with companies on the themes of human factor reliability, memory and emotional intelligence. She is also one of the most sought-after experts of the APM (Association pour le Progrès du Management), of which she has been a member since 2010.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major challenges facing organization studies has been for a long time to develop an operational content to the notion of routines . This book offers important advances in this direction, both conceptually and through illuminating case studies. Giovanni Dosi, Sant Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa, Italy This book showcases advanced empirical research that applies the concept of organizational routines to understanding organizations and how they change and evolve. The contributions gathered in the book cover qualitative, quantitative, and archival methods for empirical research applying the concept of organizational routines. Specific issues highlighted include the use of event-sequence methods in the analysis of organizational routines, the impact of standard operating procedures on recurrent behaviour patterns, and the stability, resilience, and change of organizational routines. The book thus provides an overview of different empirical methods applied to study organizational routines, and of their prerequisites, analytical power, and contribution. This comprehensive book will be of great interest to scholars and postgraduate students in the fields of organization theory, strategy, and organization behaviour. Researchers in organization, management and economic science, organizational change and evolutionary theories will also find this book invaluable.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1953, 27-year-old Henry Gustave Molaison underwent an experimental "psychosurgical" procedure -- a targeted lobotomy -- in an effort to alleviate his debilitating epilepsy. The outcome was unexpected -- when Henry awoke, he could no longer form new memories, and for the rest of his life would be trapped in the moment. But Henry's tragedy would prove a gift to humanity. As renowned neuroscientist Suzanne Corkin explains in Permanent Present Tense, she and her colleagues brought to light the sharp contrast between Henry's crippling memory impairment and his preserved intellect. This new insight that the capacity for remembering is housed in a specific brain area revolutionized the science of memory. The case of Henry -- known only by his initials H. M. until his death in 2008 -- stands as one of the most consequential and widely referenced in the spiraling field of neuroscience. Corkin and her collaborators worked closely with Henry for nearly fifty years, and in Permanent Present Tense she tells the incredible story of the life and legacy of this intelligent, quiet, and remarkably good-humored man. Henry never remembered Corkin from one meeting to the next and had only a dim conception of the importance of the work they were doing together, yet he was consistently happy to see her and always willing to participate in her research. His case afforded untold advances in the study of memory, including the discovery that even profound amnesia spares some kinds of learning, and that different memory processes are localized to separate circuits in the human brain. Henry taught us that learning can occur without conscious awareness, that short-term and long-term memory are distinct capacities, and that the effects of aging-related disease are detectable in an already damaged brain. Undergirded by rich details about the functions of the human brain, Permanent Present Tense pulls back the curtain on the man whose misfortune propelled a half-century of exciting research. With great clarity, sensitivity, and grace, Corkin brings readers to the cutting edge of neuroscience in this deeply felt elegy for her patient and friend.

On the beat he sells murder, tragedy, and anything that passes for the truth. At home, he is a dedicated husband and father. But when a seductive stranger asks him to dig into the unsolved murder of her husband, he is drawn into a very nasty case of sexual obsession and blackmail--one that threatens his job, his marriage, and his life. Manhattan Nocturne is a brilliantly drawn tableau of the gritty, gaudy city, and a thrilling literary noir.
