Today revisionism is the dominant interpretation of the Revolution both in the academic world and among the educated public. The king had created the principal governmental organs of the Capetian monarchy and replaced the feudal magnates at the royal court with loyal men of lesser rank. The revolt occurred in the wake of the Black Death and during the Hundred Years War, and it was closely connected to a rebellion in Paris against the French crown. It shows that these opposing conclusions are based on the illusory assumption that the revolt was a united movement with a single goal.
