This book was released on 2009-05-21 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book revives and vastly expands the classical theory of resultants and discriminants. Most of the main new results of the book have been published earlier in more than a dozen joint papers of the authors. The book nicely complements these original papers with many examples illustrating both old and new results of the theory."—Mathematical Reviews

This book was released on 2013-02-21 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Conference on Hopf Algebras and Tensor Categories, held July 4-8, 2011, at the University of Almeria, Almeria, Spain. The articles in this volume cover a wide variety of topics related to the theory of Hopf algebras and its connections to other areas of mathematics. In particular, this volume contains a survey covering aspects of the classification of fusion categories using Morita equivalence methods, a long comprehensive introduction to Hopf algebras in the category of species, and a summary of the status to date of the classification of Hopf algebras of dimensions up to 100. Among other topics discussed in this volume are a study of normalized class sum and generalized character table for semisimple Hopf algebras, a contribution to the classification program of finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras, relations to the conjecture of De Concini, Kac, and Procesi on representations of quantum groups at roots of unity, a categorical approach to the Drinfeld double of a braided Hopf algebra via Hopf monads, an overview of Hom-Hopf algebras, and several discussions on the crossed product construction in different settings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generally, biologists and mathematicians who study the shape and form of organisms have largely been working in isolation from those who work on evolutionary relationships through the analysis of common characteristics. Increasingly however, dialogue between the two communities is beginning to develop - but other than a handful of journal papers, t

Book Synopsis Mathematical Theory of Scattering Resonances by : Semyon Dyatlov
Download or read book Mathematical Theory of Scattering Resonances written by Semyon Dyatlov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scattering resonances generalize bound states/eigenvalues for systems in which energy can scatter to infinity. A typical resonance has a rate of oscillation (just as a bound state does) and a rate of decay. Although the notion is intrinsically dynamical, an elegant mathematical formulation comes from considering meromorphic continuations of Green's functions. The poles of these meromorphic continuations capture physical information by identifying the rate of oscillation with the real part of a pole and the rate of decay with its imaginary part. An example from mathematics is given by the zeros of the Riemann zeta function: they are, essentially, the resonances of the Laplacian on the modular surface. The Riemann hypothesis then states that the decay rates for the modular surface are all either or . An example from physics is given by quasi-normal modes of black holes which appear in long-time asymptotics of gravitational waves. This book concentrates mostly on the simplest case of scattering by compactly supported potentials but provides pointers to modern literature where more general cases are studied. It also presents a recent approach to the study of resonances on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. The last two chapters are devoted to semiclassical methods in the study of resonances.
Book Synopsis The Theory of Group Characters and Matrix Representations of Groups by : Dudley Ernest Littlewood
Download or read book The Theory of Group Characters and Matrix Representations of Groups written by Dudley Ernest Littlewood and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally written in 1940, this book remains a classical source on representations and characters of finite and compact groups. The book starts with necessary information about matrices, algebras, and groups. Then the author proceeds to representations of finite groups. Of particular interest in this part of the book are several chapters devoted to representations and characters of symmetric groups and the closely related theory of symmetric polynomials. The concluding chapters present the representation theory of classical compact Lie groups, including a detailed description of representations of the unitary and orthogonal groups. The book, which can be read with minimal prerequisites (an undergraduate algebra course), allows the reader to get a good understanding of beautiful classical results about group representations.
Book Synopsis Trends in Stochastic Analysis by : Jochen Blath
Download or read book Trends in Stochastic Analysis written by Jochen Blath and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-04-09 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting important trends in the field of stochastic analysis, this collection of thirteen articles provides an overview of recent developments and new results. Written by leading experts in the field, the articles cover a wide range of topics, ranging from an alternative set-up of rigorous probability to the sampling of conditioned diffusions. Applications in physics and biology are treated, with discussion of Feynman formulas, intermittency of Anderson models and genetic inference. A large number of the articles are topical surveys of probabilistic tools such as chaining techniques, and of research fields within stochastic analysis, including stochastic dynamics and multifractal analysis. Showcasing the diversity of research activities in the field, this book is essential reading for any student or researcher looking for a guide to modern trends in stochastic analysis and neighbouring fields.
Book Synopsis Foundations of Galois Theory by : M.M. Postnikov
Download or read book Foundations of Galois Theory written by M.M. Postnikov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-10 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of Galois Theory is an introduction to group theory, field theory, and the basic concepts of abstract algebra. The text is divided into two parts. Part I presents the elements of Galois Theory, in which chapters are devoted to the presentation of the elements of field theory, facts from the theory of groups, and the applications of Galois Theory. Part II focuses on the development of general Galois Theory and its use in the solution of equations by radicals. Equations that are solvable by radicals; the construction of equations solvable by radicals; and the unsolvability by radicals of the general equation of degree n ? 5 are discussed as well. Mathematicians, physicists, researchers, and students of mathematics will find this book highly useful.
Book Synopsis Random Schrödinger Operators by : Margherita Disertori
Download or read book Random Schrödinger Operators written by Margherita Disertori and published by SMF. This book was released on 2008 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last thirty years, random Schrodinger operators, which originated in condensed matter physics, have been studied intensively and very productively. The theory is at the crossroads of a number of mathematical fields: the theory of operators, partial differential equations, the theory of probabilities, in particular the study of stochastic processes and that of random walks and Brownian motion in a random environment. This monograph aims to give the reader a panorama of the subject, from the now-classic foundations to very recent developments.
