Fun with maths - practice and quick success in multiplication and division! Especially in year 2, it's important that your kids can follow along easily and quickly in class. The pressure increases from year to year and teachers have less and less time to look after individual pupils. Yet some children simply need a little more practice to be as successful. The most important thing is that practising should be fun for the children! Because that's when they learn best. And that's all we want as parents: our children have fun going to school, experience many successes and learn something new every day. This is how we lay the foundation for a promising future. Therefore, everything important is included in this multiplication tables booklet. ✩ Multiplication up to 100 ✩ Division in the small 1x1 ✩ Arithmetic towers ✩ Connecting exercises ✩ Quick arithmetic ✩ Arithmetic triangles ✩ Gap arithmetic ✩ Reversal tasks ✩ Arithmetic mandalas ✩ Doubling and halving ✩ Tripling and dividing by three ✩ Calculating with time ✩ Calculating with money ✩ Calculating with weight ✩ and much more ... Our children are having fun and their teacher is thrilled with their successes. They can follow much faster and also participate actively in class. Give your children the opportunity to succeed too. Maths is not difficult, it just needs practice! With around 90 pages, your children can also get better while having fun! Book excerpt: This book is an amazing resource for teachers who are struggling to help students develop both procedural fluency and conceptual understanding.. --Dr. Margaret (Peg) Smith, co-author of5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematical Discussions Robert Kaplinsky, the co-creator of Open Middle math problems, brings hisnew class of tasks designed to stimulate deeper thinking and lively discussion among middle and high school students in Open Middle Math: Problems That Unlock Student Thinking, Grades 6-12. The problems are characterized by a closed beginning,- meaning all students start with the same initial problem, and a closed end,- meaning there is only one correct or optimal answer. The key is that the middle is open- in the sense that there are multiple ways to approach and ultimately solve the problem. These tasks have proven enormously popular with teachers looking to assess and deepen student understanding, build student stamina, and energize their classrooms. Professional Learning Resource for Teachers: Open Middle Math is an indispensable resource for educators interested in teaching student-centered mathematics in middle and high schools consistent with the national and state standards. Sample Problems at Each Grade: The book demonstrates the Open Middle concept with sample problems ranging from dividing fractions at 6th grade to algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Teaching Tips for Student-Centered Math Classrooms: Kaplinsky shares guidance on choosing problems, designing your own math problems, and teaching for multiple purposes, including formative assessment, identifying misconceptions, procedural fluency, and conceptual understanding. Adaptable and Accessible Math: The tasks can be solved using various strategies at different levels of sophistication, which means all students can access the problems and participate in the conversation. Open Middle Math will help math teachers transform the 6th -12th grade classroom into an environment focused on problem solving, student dialogue, and critical thinking.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the importance of mathematics in our educational systems little is known about how abstract mathematical thinking emerges. Under the uniting thread of mathematical development, we hope to connect researchers from various backgrounds to provide an integrated view of abstract mathematical cognition. Much progress has been made in the last 20 years on how numeracy is acquired. Experimental psychology has brought to light the fact that numerical cognition stems from spatial cognition. The findings from neuroimaging and single cell recording experiments converge to show that numerical representations take place in the intraparietal sulcus. Further research has demonstrated that supplementary neural networks might be recruited to carry out subtasks; for example, the retrieval of arithmetic facts is done by the angular gyrus. Now that the neural networks in charge of basic mathematical cognition are identified, we can move onto the stage where we seek to understand how these basics skills are used to support the acquisition and use of abstract mathematical concepts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The activities in this book are designed both to help children to learn and to understand math concepts, and also to prepare them for taking SATS papers at KS2. There is plenty of research evidence to suggest that children are helped in their understanding of math problems if teachers focus on common misconceptions, and if children are given opportunities for discussion and explanation of their own understanding. Children can also feel stigmatized by being made to focus on their own errors. Mike Spooner has developed activities that present already completed work which children then assess, correct and discuss - in this way they can analyze mistakes without damage to their own self-esteem. The activities are presented in the same format as the SATS papers, to give children practice in coping with that format. The book also contains writing frames that children can use to structure their discussions of math problems.
