Daraus lassen sich weitere Fragen ableiten: Welche Ziele und Aufgaben verfolgt das Kompetenzmanagement? Welches Konzept wird im Kompetenzmanagement angewendet? Was sind Erfolgsfaktoren und wie kann ein Kompetenzmanagement in der Praxis aussehen? Um dies zu beantworten, werden zu Beginn die Grundlagen des Kompetenzmanagement herausgearbeitet, wie die Definition von Begrifflichkeiten und die Ziele und Aufgaben. Im Anschluss wird das Konzept des Kompetenzmodells betrachtet. Auf Basis dieser Erkenntnisse werden daraufhin die Erfolgsfaktoren dargestellt und ein Umsetzungsbeispiel des Kompetenzmanagements in der Praxis erläutert. Abschließend werden die wesentlichen Erkenntnisse nochmal zusammengefasst. Die Beantwortung der Fragestellungen soll branchenunabhängig sein. Unsere heutige und zukünftige Arbeitswelt befindet sich in einem rasanten Wandel, der durch die Digitalisierung und neue Technologien sehr tiefgreifende Veränderungen mit sich bringt. Arbeitsabläufe und Produktionsprozesse gewinnen immer mehr an Dynamik und Komplexität. Damit das Unternehmen wettbewerbsfähig bleibt, müssen neue Kompetenzen aufgebaut werden. Der Ansatzpunkt, unternehmensinterne Ressourcen zu nutzen, um einen Wettbewerbsvorteil zu erlangen, auch Ressource Based View genannt, existiert schon länger. Doch durch die rasante Verbreitung dieser Sichtweise in den 1990er-Jahren gewann das Kompetenzmanagement eine ganz neue Bedeutung. Die Entwicklungen der unternehmensinternen Kompetenzen dürfen nicht mehr dem Zufall überlassen werden, sondern müssen aktiv gemanagt werden, denn Kompetenzen bilden die Grundlagen des Wettbewerbsvorsprungs. Besonders in Zeiten von Digitalisierung und Industrie 4.0 ist es wichtig, sich der Früherkennung von Kompetenzanforderungen zu widmen.
