Book excerpt: This work presents a series of dramatic discoveries never before made public. Starting from a collection of simple computer experiments---illustrated in the book by striking computer graphics---Wolfram shows how their unexpected results force a whole new way of looking at the operation of our universe. Wolfram uses his approach to tackle a remarkable array of fundamental problems in science: from the origin of the Second Law of thermodynamics, to the development of complexity in biology, the computational limitations of mathematics, the possibility of a truly fundamental theory of physics, and the interplay between free will and determinism.

Book excerpt: For decades, neuroscientists, psychologists, and an army of brain researchers have been struggling, in vain, to explain the phenomenon of consciousness. Now there is a clear trail to the answer, and it leads through the dense jungle of quantum physics, Zen, and subjective experience, and arrives at an unexpected destination. In this tour-de-force of scientific investigation, Evan Harris Walker, a pioneer in the science of consciousness, describes the outcome of his fifty-year search for the true nature of reality. Drawing on a deep knowledge of quantum physics and Zen philosophy, Walker shows how the operation of bizarre yet actual properties of elementary particles support a new and exciting theory of reality, based on the principles of quantum physics; a theory that answers questions such as “What is the nature of consciousness, of will?” “What is the source of material reality?” and “What is God?”Clearly written in non-technical, lyrical prose, The Physics of Consciousness is more than just the explanation of a science—it is a new vision of life.

Exploring this possible connection can be fruitful: an analysis of the conscious mind and psychophysical connection can be indispensable in understanding quantum mechanics and solving the notorious measurement problem, and there is also likely some kind of intimate connection between quantum mechanics--the most fundamental theory of the physical world--and our efforts to explain, naturalistically, the phenomenon of consciousness. The seventeen newly written chapters in this volume are divided into three sections: Consciousness and the Wave Function Collapse, Consciousness in Quantum Theories, and Quantum Approaches to Consciousness. This is the first volume to provide a comprehensive review and thorough analysis of intriguing conjectures about the connection between consciousness and quantum mechanics. Written by leading experts in physics, philosophy, and cognitive science, Consciousness and Quantum Mechanics will be of value to students and researchers working on the foundations of quantum mechanics and the philosophy of mind.

Along the way he becomes a celebrity and meets the woman of his dreams. The author stretches the boundaries of fiction by inserting actual facts, news events and real people to create a tension between what is real versus what is not. The main character experiences the same challenges to his perceived reality in this social psychological thriller. So enter the world of Jack Madden, author and presidential candidate and see if he wins the 2008 presidential election over Barack Obama and John McCain? "Stream of Consciousness" merges the genres of fiction and non-fiction and deals with the current issues of our time such as environmental responsibility, maximizing human potential physically, mentally and emotionally, and highlights the limits of our current knowledge in cosmology and quantum physics. "Stream of Consciousness" will appeal to a mass audience and especially writers as it is also about the writing process and famous writers.

Book excerpt: Quantum physics is increasingly revealing itself as one of the most fascinating and mysterious scientific fields of our time. But what if this revolutionary theory embraces an even deeper dimension? Some scholars argue that quantum physics can unlock the secrets of consciousness, opening a new window into the very nature of the universe. This book investigates how quantum physics is intertwined with the concept of universal consciousness and what implications this may have for our understanding of reality. Quantum physics presents us with a panorama in which reality is not exactly as it appears to us. At the microscopic level, among subatomic particles, what we observe appears to be influenced by the simple act of observation. This is known as "the Observer's Paradox". This feature makes awareness a fundamental factor in understanding quantum reality. Another fascinating aspect of quantum physics is quantum entanglement. This is a property by which subatomic particles can become intrinsically connected, regardless of the distance that separates them. Some scholars argue that this phenomenon may suggest the existence of a universal consciousness, in which everything is interconnected. The book explores the theories that link quantum entanglement to consciousness and how new horizons in our understanding of reality can arise from this connection. The double-slit experiment is a classic of quantum physics that raises fascinating questions about the very nature of observation and intention. Recent studies argue that the mind of the observer could have a direct influence on the behavior of subatomic particles. This leads us to consider the role of conscious intention in creating reality and to explore the idea that consciousness is an active force in the universe itself. The convergence between quantum physics and spirituality is fertile ground for further research. Some argue that quantum physics can provide a scientific explanation of ancient Eastern philosophies, such as the idea of a unified field of consciousness. It is a perspective that leads to a deeper and more integrated vision of our role in the cosmos. Quantum physics invites us to reconsider the very nature of reality and embrace the idea that consciousness can play a central role in the universe. This book explains with great simplicity the secrets of quantum physics, to lead the reader towards an incredible opportunity for exploration and opening up to new frontiers of knowledge.

Book excerpt: Quantum Physics You Can Use There is a force underlying all action and circumstance in the universe and you have the ability to tap into this force, interact with it, and use it to heal yourself. This is science talking. Specifically, this is Dr. Arnold Mindell’s new model of medicine based on the mind-blowing findings of a host of quantum physicists--pioneers who are reconfiguring the landscape of our world and belief structure on an almost daily basis. Dr. Mindell is an internationally recognized psychotherapist whose ahead-of-the-curve work led him to found a new school of therapy called Process Oriented Psychology. A graduate of MIT and the Jungian Institute of Zurich, Dr. Mindell is an in-demand speaker at conferences worldwide as well as the author of sixteen previous books. Despite his many achievements, it is not a stretch to say that The Quantum Mind and Healing is quite probably Mindell’s most important and best work yet. In it, Mindell explains that you can use the discoveries of quantum physics to access your body’s own intelligence and self-healing abilities. Embracing both conventional and alternative medicine, he shows that to truly heal you need both medicine and your own natural wisdom. The Quantum Mind and Healing goes well beyond theory, giving you simple techniques, guided exercises, and precise explanations of vital concepts that will enable you to uncover, understand, and eliminate the root causes of even your chronic symptoms and illnesses. With applications beyond physical healing, The Quantum Mind and Healing can also help you overcome long-term emotional and behavioral patterns that may be keeping you from living your greatest potential.

Book excerpt: The classical mechanistic idea of nature that prevailed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was essentially mindless: the physically described aspects of nature were asserted to be completely determined by prior physically described aspects alone, with conscious experiences entering only passively. In the last century these classical concepts were found inadequate. In the new quantum mechanics theory, conscious experiences enter into the dynamics in specified ways not fixed by physically described aspects alone.

Book excerpt: The phenomenon of consciousness includes mysterious aspects providing a basis for many spiritual doctrines (including religions) and psychological practices. These directions of human knowledge are usually considered to contradict the laws of science. However, quantum mechanics ? in a sense, the mysterious direction of science ? allows us to include the phenomena of consciousness and life as well as the relevant phenomena in the sphere of science.Wolfgang Pauli, one of the pioneers of quantum mechanics, together with great psychologist Carl Gustav Jung, guessed about the relation between quantum mechanics and consciousness in the beginning of the twentieth century. However, only ?many-worlds? interpretation of quantum mechanics, proposed in 1957 by Hugh Everett III, gave the real basis for the systematic investigation of this relation.Roger Penrose, one of the apologists of the relation between quantum mechanics and consciousness, claimed in his Last book ?The Road to Reality? that the Everett's interpretation may be estimated only after creating the theory of consciousness. Thereagainst, the author has proposed in 2000 and further elaborates in this book, the so-called Extended Everett's Concept, that allows one to derive the main features of consciousness and super-consciousness (intuition, or direct vision of truth) from quantum mechanics. This is exposed in this book in a form intelligible for a wide audience.

Book excerpt: This edited volume examines aspects of the mind/consciousness that are relevant to the interpretations of quantum mechanics. In it, an international group of contributors focus on the possible connections between quantum mechanics and consciousness. They look at how consciousness can help us with quantum mechanics as well as how quantum mechanics can contribute to our understanding of consciousness. For example, what do different interpretations aimed at solving the measurement problem in quantum mechanics tell us about the nature of consciousness, such as von Neumann's interpretation? Each interpretation has, associated to it, a corresponding metaphysical framework that helps us think about possible “models” of consciousness. Alternatively, what does the nature of consciousness tell us about the role of the observer and time reversibility in the measurement process? The book features 20 papers on contemporary approaches to quanta and mind. It brings together the work of scholars from different disciplines with diverse views on the connections between quanta and mind, ranging from those who are supportive of a link between consciousness and quantum physics to those who are very skeptical of such link. Coverage includes such topics as free will in a quantum world, contextuality and causality, mind and matter interaction, quantum panpsychism, the quantum and quantum-like brain, and the role of time in brain-mind dynamics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a Physicist with 20 years in Neuro-science Medical Research who has experienced numerous medically documented NDEs. The book describes in depth and detail the mysteries of quantum physics and its relationship with consciousness, the fact that we 'paint the universe into being, ' using the NDE to bridge the gap between infinite consciousness and this finite reality and provides for the first time a working definition for consciousness that satisfies all of the requirements in quantum physics and consequently every religion of man, in terms specifically accessible to the lay reader; and goes on to explain in detail 'how we do it, ' how we control time itself by our perception and awareness, how we manipulate the four forces of nature and infinite energy to 'paint the universe into being, ' and have done so since before the creation of this universe itself. The working definition in question simply requires consciousness to be unique and infinite in duration and scope, the evidence of this expressed in terms that challenges the scientific community to find an irrefutable counter argument, which is unlikely, leaving this finite universe to be infinitesimal, to the extent that it does not truly exist, merely an experience of perception that we ourselves define, an extension of ourselves, a 'construct.' Modern mainstream physics has in some cases departed from this original view of the founders of quantum physics who expected future generations to find this working definition for consciousness in order to complete a model that describes a universe interdependent with 'us.' These alternative views that attempt to eliminate consciousness from the equations are described in detail and an explanation in exacting terms where and why they fall short is provided. Although the details of quantum physics have been out of reach for the lay reader to date, the actual details are explained and the math described in terms most anyone can understand. The various paradoxes are described and investigated in detail and upon utilizing this working definition for consciousness that requires infinite unique existence these paradoxes simply 'go away.' Interestingly, these paradoxes extend to philosophy and religion, and using the same definition for infinite unique consciousness even the most unanswerable religious paradoxes disappear; seemingly unanswerable questions such as 'if there is a God why is there so much suffering in the world?' Because you are not here, this is merely a perception, it is not really happening... Being a unique infinite being, you therefore reside in an infinite domain, not this finite universe; you cannot fit an infinite thing inside of a finite 'box.' There have been many attempts by various authors to find these relationships in quantum physics literally filling the bookshelves attempting to validate or construct entire psycho-spiritual belief systems that seem appealing to the lay reader. Unfortunately, since none of them to date have been physicists, their understanding of the science and the vocabulary has been misconception and unintentionally misleading. The corrections to these misconceptions and urban myths are provided as well as dismissing misconceptions and urban myths in science, rather direct and irreverently. But when the correct usage and understanding of quantum physics and its relationship with infinite unique consciousness is applied, an answer does come out of it, an answer far greater in scope than anything written to date. It defines a 'self' that 'paints the universe into being, ' beyond our previous conceptions of our own nature and extends to all life, everywhere. There is a lot of not main stream thinking in science presented here, hypothetical, and speculative, but presented as such. The foundations for these are clearly referenced and easily accessible.

Book excerpt: A stroll through a 3 dimensional reality in more than just the three dimensions one can perceive with the 5 senses, and even beyond a potential 6th sense. This is because reality is more than just the 3 or 4 dimensions we directly experience. Jay Patrick AKA "The Doctor" who wrote this book is not only a doctor in Divinity and Metaphysics, but one of space and time. This author experienced death at a young age and experienced the other side of life and death. This unique view has allowed for the scientist he plays in his career to have a greater understanding of what we can observe beyond our naked eye's capabilities. The Doctor's education and fascinations with world religions and quantum physics has allowed for the harmonization of the spiritual and the physical to be quite eloquently stated while covering the depth of theoretical physics and the spiritual awakening paths to enlightenment. These understanding result in a consciousness that brings the secret to life, manifestation and the law of attraction into a realm stronger than faith. This book not only holds the meaning of life but the non-meaning as well. The understanding that all is nothing and nothing is in everything brings peace and to the heart of those with or without faith. These teachings allows us to see why we are all to exist as one and live in harmony not only in ourselves but amongst ourselves. This book will change your perspective and your life.
