Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHO ARE YOU? WHAT DEFINES YOU? WHAT IS YOUR IDENTITY? How you answer those questions affects every aspect of your life: personal, public, and spiritual. So it’s vital to get the answer right. Pastor and best-selling author Mark Driscoll believes false identity is at the heart of many struggles—and that you can overcome them by having your true identity in Christ. In Who Do You Think You Are?, Driscoll explores the question, “What does it mean to be ‘in Christ’?” In the process he dissects the false-identity epidemic and, more important, provides the only solution—Jesus. “This book will give you an unshakeable, biblical understanding of who you are in Christ. When you know who you are, you’ll know what to do.” —Craig Groeschel, Senior Pastor of LifeChurch.tv and author of Soul Detox, Clean Living in a Contaminated World “I spent years in ministry for Christ without understanding my identity in Christ. I know now that I was not alone. When, by the grace of God, we understand who we are in Christ, everything else can crumble and we will still be standing. I highly commend this book to you.” —Sheila Walsh, speaker and author of God Loves Broken People

I don't mean some sort of abstract feeling that you're probably okay. I mean joy. Most of us never come close to joy, particularly about ourselves. Instead we identify with every ugly thing we do. We think our flaws define us. God disagrees. Practical, thoughtful, on-target, and warmly personal - this book details the journey from shame to joy."

Book excerpt: "...an engaging and enlightening account from which we all can benefit."—The Wall Street Journal A better way to combat knee-jerk biases and make smarter decisions, from Julia Galef, the acclaimed expert on rational decision-making. When it comes to what we believe, humans see what they want to see. In other words, we have what Julia Galef calls a "soldier" mindset. From tribalism and wishful thinking, to rationalizing in our personal lives and everything in between, we are driven to defend the ideas we most want to believe—and shoot down those we don't. But if we want to get things right more often, argues Galef, we should train ourselves to have a "scout" mindset. Unlike the soldier, a scout's goal isn't to defend one side over the other. It's to go out, survey the territory, and come back with as accurate a map as possible. Regardless of what they hope to be the case, above all, the scout wants to know what's actually true. In The Scout Mindset, Galef shows that what makes scouts better at getting things right isn't that they're smarter or more knowledgeable than everyone else. It's a handful of emotional skills, habits, and ways of looking at the world—which anyone can learn. With fascinating examples ranging from how to survive being stranded in the middle of the ocean, to how Jeff Bezos avoids overconfidence, to how superforecasters outperform CIA operatives, to Reddit threads and modern partisan politics, Galef explores why our brains deceive us and what we can do to change the way we think.

William Eastwood should know, because when he applied this formula at age 12, he got what he wanted. At age 13 he was working with a Yale University professor on a secret invention at a private research and development facility. At 18 he was in the limelight and selling his incredibly successful invention to The American Supply Company. By age 22, he owned three large historic homes on the coast of Maine. "A magical process like the Cinderella story made my dreams come true," says Eastwood. "Don't believe it?" Albert Einstein said, 'If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales.'" David Bohm's science is not fiction, and Eastwood knows that. At age 12 he knew that the science could be applied to help people create what they want. Eastwood began his one-of-a-kind study at age 12, and for over 45 years tested the application of new science. Bohm was a friend of Einstein and was awarded his Doctorate by J. Robert Oppenheimer himself. Bohm says the mind projects physical reality in the same way an old-fashioned movie camera does, and Eastwood explains how your beliefs, thoughts and emotions determine what is created. "Wishes do come true," says Eastwood, "It's simple science, and it is not hard to understand and apply. "A thought contains an algorithm that determines its subsequent development. Because energy cannot be destroyed, your thoughts continue to exist and fall down through levels of consciousness. At every level your thoughts will combine with similar thoughts and repel dissimilar thoughts. "At a level below the subconscious your thoughts form into groupings that become trial runs of probable events. Manifestation only occurs when conditions permit, and the conscious self makes a decision. Millions of computations flash before the inner mind until the right outcome is ascertained. The final decision activates the probable events that have been decided on. "When you apply the simple principles within this book you activate a magical internal process that manifests your desire and allows you to enter your own life of 'dreams-come-true.'" ― William Eastwood This book is packed with simple practical insights that show you how to create whatever you want, no matter what it is. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I write this book in a social milieu where telecommunications can make a very private act globally public in a moment. A question I dont consider is whether and to what extent the publicity attendant on a potential suicide inclines one toward or against the follow through. I suspect that it figures in, but what it amounts to in the end differs widely in each case. What I do have in mind is a rather full discussion and consideration of a host of questions I dont hear being asked in the discussion of suicide today. In fact, I find the comments from most media talking heads to be either sincerely trite or politely banal. But then, one shouldnt expect an in depth exploration of any side of the suicide question from the popular media. Where one should expect a more thorough investigation, however, is from the spokespeople representing our cultures philosophical and theological traditions. What I hear most often has been said before, often in a context where the authoritative spokesmen for the Church issue blanket condemnations backed up by the written codes of civil law, canon law, moral law or natural law. Authorization for this outright condemnation of suicide, ipso facto, has always been backed up by law of some kind and its interpretation to the people in the pew or the public at large.

This constellation of psychopathology frequently is seen in clinical practice and often proves to be a difficult personality organization to treat. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book calls for a re-conceptualisation of the public health evidence-base to include crucial forms of creative and relational data about people’s lived experiences that cannot be accessed through the biomedical approach to generating and using evidence. Drawing from the author’s ethical, ontological and epistemological dilemmas when studying controversial topics, and methodological evaluation framework to measure impacts of creative community engagement, the book argues that traditional methodologies and conceptualisations of evidence have the potential to exacerbate health inequalities by excluding and misrepresenting minorities. Fantastical realities based on ‘truthful’ research findings are intertwined with traditional public health approaches through artistic engagement with so-called ‘hard-to-reach’ groups. Working with their (sur)real life stories, the author reflects on how the population’s breadth is inadequately reflected which threatens validity and generalisability in public health research and decision making. Through different ways of knowing (epistemology) and different ways of being (ontology), this book shows how to design studies, make recommendations and adapt services that are aligned with views and experiences of those living on the margins and beyond. As such, it is an essential read for public health researchers and students.

Book excerpt: 'A clear, concise, easy-to-read account of the issues between sex, gender and feminism . . . an important book' Evening Standard 'A call for cool heads at a time of great heat and a vital reminder that revolutions don't always end well' Sunday Times Material Girls is a timely and trenchant critique of the influential theory that we all have an inner feeling known as a gender identity, and that this feeling is more socially significant than our biological sex. Professor Kathleen Stock surveys the philosophical ideas that led to this point, and closely interrogates each one, from De Beauvoir's statement that, 'One is not born, but rather becomes a woman' (an assertion she contends has been misinterpreted and repurposed), to Judith Butler's claim that language creates biological reality, rather than describing it. She looks at biological sex in a range of important contexts, including women-only spaces and resources, healthcare, epidemiology, political organization and data collection. Material Girls makes a clear, humane and feminist case for our retaining the ability to discuss reality, and concludes with a positive vision for the future, in which trans rights activists and feminists can collaborate to achieve some of their political aims.

Book excerpt: Do You Know Who You Are? What would you do if you found out that your spouse had a secret life? Debra and Carvin have been married for many years, but a series of sinister events begins to unravel a web of secrets and deceit enveloping Debra, Carvin, and their friends. Debra and Carvin's journey is one of discovery - learning the deeper truth of their own identities, what they mean to one another, and their place in the world. Author Ronnie Austin uses the story of Debra and Carvin as a parable about the spiritual and emotional complexities of modern life, skillfully interweaving their story with astute observations about the choices we are all faced with. Will we put on a mask to fit in with society and family? Or will we dig deeper and reach higher, to embrace the best self that God wants us to be? Hard-hitting and compassionate, Masquerade lets us see what happens when we stop hiding and come out into the light, presenting each of us with a personal challenge to find our truest self, and to see and support that truth in others.
