Book excerpt: What consequence does Lucifer give his daughter? Celestial Academy: The Complete Series omnibus is all three books in the Celestial Academy trilogy as well as an exclusive bonus novella, Angel Baby & The Holy Grail. Book 1: Ascend My friends always complained about their parents' rules and consequences. Well, I have them beat. I'm the daughter of the devil and was just expelled from my senior year of high school for breaking a guy's nose. Did Lucifer torture my soul? Did he condemn me to the fiery pits of Hell? None of the above. He sent me to Celestial Academy, where college-aged angels go to learn to be guardians. The only problem is I don't have wings, and I'm certainly no saint. Being Lucifer's daughter in a school full of angels is no walk in the park. I'd much rather be tortured in Hell. That is until I meet three men that make me feel like anything is possible. Why choose when I can have them all? Book 2: Descend I'm meant to save the light from the dark with my four guardians. Whatever that means. The problem is, I'm a mess. Weeks have passed since my world tilted on its axis. Tobias, Asher, and Oliver may have put my shattered heart back together again, but something once broken is never quite the same. Every time I shut my eyes I find myself stuck in an endless loop of fear and worry. And then Reve appears. He waltzed his way into my dreams and swept me off my feet. Will the three angels in my life accept a demon? Will they accept me? I was just starting to figure out who I was... until I discovered my mother was a fraud. Now, I don't even know who I am anymore. Book 3: Transcend School is back in session and we are no closer to getting my dad back. To make matters worse demons have been getting through to Earth at an alarming rate. Hell on Earth is coming, unless I can stop it. In order to save everyone and everything I love, I have to face my fears. With the help of Tobias, Asher, Oliver, and Reve, I know I can do anything. Even if that means going to a place that sends shivers down my spine. Inferna isn't for the faint of heart. It's called hell for a reason. Not everyone will survive. Will I? Exclusive Novella: Angel Baby & The Holy Grail After months of uncertainty, I can finally relax on my honeymoon. At least for a day. The Holy Grail is still missing and now Oliver must find it or return to heaven. We can't let that happen. Where is the Holy Grail? Angel Baby & The Holy Grail is a 13,000 word novella that picks up after the epilogue of Transcend. Ascend, Descend, and Transcend are fast burn reverse harem full-length novels written with multiple POVs. They contain M/M scenes, light academy bullying, and a teacher/student romance.

Book excerpt: Lorna Kepler was beautiful and willful, a loner who couldn't resist flirting with danger. Maybe that's what killed her. Her death had raised a host of tough questions. The cops suspected homicide, but they could find neither motive nor suspect. Even the means were mysterious: Lorna's body was so badly decomposed when it was discovered that they couldn't be certain she hadn't died of natural causes. In the way of overworked cops everywhere, the case was gradually shifted to the back burner and became another unsolved file. Only Lorna's mother kept it alive, consumed by the certainty that somebody out there had gotten away with murder. In the ten months since her daughter's death, Janice Kepler had joined a support group, trying to come to terms with her loss and her anger. It wasn't helping. And so, leaving a session one evening and noticing a light on in the offices of Millhone Investigations, she knocked on the door. In answering that knock, Kinsey Millhone is pulled into the netherworld of unavenged murder, where only a pact with the devil will satisfy the restless ghosts of the victims and give release to the living they have left behind. Eleven books into the series that has won her readers around the world, Sue Grafton takes a darkside turn, pitching us into a shadow land of pain and grief where killers still walk free, unaccused, unpunished, unrepentant. With "K" is for Killer she offers a tale that is dark, complex, and deeply disturbing. Book excerpt: Networks, Labour and Migration among Indian Muslim Artisans provides an ethnography of life, work and migration in a North Indian Muslim-dominated woodworking industry. It traces artisanal connections within the local context, during migration within India, and to the Gulf, examining how woodworkers utilise local and transnational networks, based on identity, religiosity, and affective circulations, to access resources, support and forms of mutuality. However, the book also illustrates how liberalisation, intensifying forms of marginalisation and incorporation into global production networks have led to spatial pressures, fragmentation of artisanal labour, and forms of enclavement that persist despite geographical mobility and connectedness. By working across the dialectic of marginality and connectedness, Thomas Chambers thinks through these complexities and dualities by providing an ethnographic account that shares everyday life with artisans and others in the industry. Descriptive detail is intersected with spatial scales of ‘local’, ‘national’ and ‘international’, with the demands of supply chains and labour markets within India and abroad, with structural conditions, and with forms of change and continuity. Empirically, then, the book provides a detailed account of a specific locale, but also contributes to broader theoretical debates centring on theorisations of margins, borders, connections, networks, embeddedness, neoliberalism, subjectivities, and economic or social flux.

Eleven years ago, six kindergartners went missing without a trace. After all that time, the people left behind moved on, or tried to. Until today. Today five of those kids return. They're sixteen, and they are . . . fine. Scarlett comes home and finds a mom she barely recognizes, and doesn't really recognize the person she's supposed to be, either. But she thinks she remembers Lucas. Lucas remembers Scarlett, too, except they're entirely unable to recall where they've been or what happened to them. Neither of them remember the sixth victim, Max--the only one who hasn't come back. Which leaves Max's sister, Avery, wanting answers. She wants to find her brother--dead or alive--and isn't buying this whole memory-loss story. But as details of the disappearance begin to unfold, no one is prepared for the truth. This unforgettable novel--with its rich characters, high stakes, and plot twists--will leave readers breathless.

Book excerpt: A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula is the second comparative history of a new subseries with a regional focus, published by the Coordinating Committee of the International Comparative Literature Association. As its predecessor for East-Central Europe, this two-volume history distances itself from traditional histories built around periods and movements, and explores, from a comparative viewpoint, a space considered to be a powerful symbol of inter-literary relations. Both the geographical pertinence and its symbolic condition are obviously discussed, when not even contested. Written by an international team of researchers who are specialists in the field, this history is the first attempt at applying a comparative approach to the plurilingual and multicultural literatures in the Iberian Peninsula. The aim of comprehensiveness is abandoned in favor of a diverse and extensive array of key issues for a comparative agenda. A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula undermines the primacy claimed for national and linguistic boundaries, and provides a geo-cultural account of literary inter-systems which cannot otherwise be explained.

Book excerpt: Kord and Krimmer investigate the most common male types - cops, killers, fathers, cowboys, superheroes, spies, soldiers, rogues, lovers, and losers - by tracing changing concepts of masculinity in popular Hollywood blockbusters from 1992 to 2008 - the Clinton and Bush eras - against a backdrop of contemporary political events, social developments, and popular American myths. Their in-depth analysis of over sixty films, from The Matrix and Iron Man to Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings, shows that movies, far from being mere entertainment, respond directly to today's social and political realities, from consumerism to "family values" to the War on Terror.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unique analysis of how ideas about science and technology in the public and scientific imaginations (in particular about maths, logic, the gene, the brain, god, and robots) perpetuate the false reality that values and politics are separate from scientific knowledge and its applications. These ideas are reinforced by cultural myths about free will and individualism. Restivo makes a compelling case for a synchronistic approach in the study of these notoriously 'hard' cases, arguing that their significance reaches far beyond the realms of science and technology, and that their sociological and political ramifications are of paramount importance in our global society. This innovative work deals with perennial problems in the social sciences, philosophy, and the history of science and religion, and will be of special interest to professionals in these fields, as well as scholars of science and technology studies.
