Not every man really lives.” —William Wallace, Braveheart More than twenty years ago Braveheart captured the hearts of moviegoers around the world. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning five. Now, for the first time, author and screenwriter Randall Wallace shares the journey that led him to the famous Scottish warrior and how telling the story of William Wallace changed the direction of his life and career—from that surprising first moment in Edinburgh, Scotland, to selling the script to a major Hollywood studio. Part autobiography, part master class, Living the Braveheart Life invites us to explore five major archetypes in Braveheart that resonate not only in Randall’s life but in the modern-day lives of both men and women: the Father, Teacher, Warrior, Sage, and Outlaw. Join blockbuster film director Randall Wallace on the journey of his creative and personal life. Discover why thousands of moviegoers continue to say Braveheart is their all-time favorite film and how its creator and architect came to believe that he must write as if his life depended on it. Living the Braveheart Life is a challenge to all of us to engage in the greatest battle of all—the one inside the human heart. “I don’t think I’ve ever read anything like it . . . a prescription for what ails the contemporary soul.” —Steven Pressfield, screenwriter & author of The War of Art Front Flap During his prolific Hollywood career, Randall Wallace has amassed an enviable body of work. Films such as The Man in the Iron Mask, We Were Soldiers, and Secretariat have become box office standards. Yet no film defines his life and career more than Braveheart, written from a well of deep personal passion, steeped in years of reflection. With roots in small-town Tennessee, Randall’s hunger for adventure and unlimited horizons leads him to Duke University. There he sits under the tutelage of Thomas A. Langford, whose infectious love and learning and faith light up a classroom and a young man’s vision of life’s possibilities. A decade later, while on a trip to Scotland, Randall is introduced to an unfamiliar statue with an inscription that bears his last name. After hearing the first fragments of the Scottish hero’s tale, Randall recognizes the seeds of a truly great story. His William Wallace and his band of warriors forever changed the way we view love, war, and freedom. Living the Braveheart Life is a personal narrative of how an epic feature film came to life and breathed life into its author. It is the kind of book that will change the way we approach our internal battles, creative or personal. Welcome to a master class in storytelling from the consummate storyteller.

Book excerpt: Heat up your summer with three romantic yet clean reads you can take anywhere—be it the beach, vacation, a day relaxing in the sun, or your favorite chair for a moment of downtime. In Halflings, book one of the Halflings series, after being repeatedly attacked by an evil force, seventeen-year-old Nikki finds herself under the watchful guardianship of Mace, Raven, and Vine, three mysterious young men who call themselves halflings. The three boys vow to Nikki safe while hiding their deepest secret—and the wings that come with. But a growing attraction between Nikki and two of her protectors presents a whole other danger. As the mysteries behind the boys’ powers, as well as her role in a scientist’s dark plan, unfold, Nikki is faced with choices that may affect the earthly and heavenly worlds. In Summer by Summer, Summer took a nanny job in Belize as a fresh start before college, but things take a turn when she finds herself trapped on an island with Bray, a boy she can’t stand. But as their time on the island wears on, the issues that kept them at odds begin to drop away, and both Bray and Summer discover that each may be able to provide the healing they’ve been searching for. And in Doon, book one of the Doon series, Veronica keeps seeing visions of an attractive kilted stranger. When she and her best friend, Kenna, find themselves in Scotland for a summer, what appeared to be a sign she was going crazy becomes an adventure when Veronica and Kenna are zapped across the Alloway Bridge and into a world that appears to be a real-life fairy tale. Veronica soon comes face to face with the boy from her dreams, but the kingdom of Doon holds a dark underbelly that may prevent Veronica’s happily ever after before it can even begin.

"This is a brilliant account of how leadership is made." - Andy McNab This is the true story of 21 young men desperately trying to survive the most brutal leadership course of modern times. A throw back to the Highland Fieldcraft Training Center, the revolutionary brain child of Lord Rowallan during the Second World War, this fascinating insight explains the extraordinary lengths Sandhurst goes to in pursuit of generating the world’s greatest military leaders. No one could have known that the intensity of their training was coincidentally little more than a prelude to a decade of war in Afghanistan and Iraq where attrition rates became comparable to those reached during the Second World War. This captivating story is full of emotion brought on by physical and mental endeavor that leads to success and failure. This intimate and revealing story of camaraderie is the first of its kind. But learning how to lead subordinates during the darkest of hours, living in the most austere of environments comes at a price. Unconventional and at times controversial, this is the only authentic account of life in Rowallan Company Sandhurst at a time when the world teetered on the brink of war with insurgents and dictators armed with weapons of mass destruction.

With an evil magic lurking across Doon, and MacKenna’s destiny entwined with the cure, can she make peace with her decisions, or will she succumb them. To make everything worse, she's received her Calling—proof she and Duncan are each other's one true love— especially when visions of the very alluring Doonish prince appear right before she goes on stage. When Duncan appears and tells Kenna that Doon needs her, that Veronica needs her, she doesn't hesitate at second chances. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to be a gay man living in the suburbs? Do you identify primarily as gay, or suburban, or some combination of the two? For that matter, how does anyone decide what his or her identity is? In this first-ever ethnography of American gay suburbanites, Wayne H. Brekhus demonstrates that who one is depends at least in part on where and when one is. For many urban gay men, being homosexual is key to their identity because they live, work, and socialize in almost exclusively gay circles. Brekhus calls such men "lifestylers" or peacocks. Chameleons or "commuters," on the other hand, live and work in conventional suburban settings, but lead intense gay social and sexual lives outside the suburbs. Centaurs, meanwhile, or "integrators," mix typical suburban jobs and homes with low-key gay social and sexual activities. In other words, lifestylers see homosexuality as something you are, commuters as something you do, and integrators as part of yourself. Ultimately, Brekhus shows that lifestyling, commuting, and integrating embody competing identity strategies that occur not only among gay men but across a broad range of social categories. What results, then, is an innovative work that will interest sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists, and students of gay culture.
