Book Synopsis Analysis of vertebrate predator-prey community by : Vadim Sidorovich
Download or read book Analysis of vertebrate predator-prey community written by Vadim Sidorovich and published by Tesey. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is about predation in vertebrate animal community. The studies were done in the seminatural terrains with transitional mixed forest within the European forest zone in Belarus. The result part was organised as a top-down flow: First, the community characteristics related to predators were estimated. I presented data on predator species richness, population density and biomass with special attention paid to the changes in predator species diversity occurred during the last two centuries and particularly in connection with the American mink and raccoon dog naturalization. Then, the main features of predator food niches were given, and the structure of various predator guilds and size structure in predators were analysed. The next part of the monograph was devoted to examining of community-important factors acting in semi-natural terrains. Such factors affected either the whole community or its marked fragment. The last quite a large part of the monograph consisted of many chapters which present more or less essential results on different predator species, and stresses hot questions of their population ecology.

Book Synopsis Atlas of terrestrial mammals of the Ionian and Aegean islands by : Marco Masseti
Download or read book Atlas of terrestrial mammals of the Ionian and Aegean islands written by Marco Masseti and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-10-30 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this book is to foster better knowledge of the mammalian fauna of the Mediterranean islands. The atlas presents the current state of knowledge of the past and present distribution of the non-flying terrestrial mammals of the Ionian and Aegean islands. It provides a distribution map for each species with extensive references and a description of all the mammalian taxa. The book also focuses on the important role of human beings in the redefinition of the insular ecological equilibrium, as well as on the environmental impact of biological invasions. The protection and study of this fauna can provide an opportunity for testing a range of different evolutionary theories.

Book Synopsis Keys to the Cestode Parasites of Vertebrates by : L. F. Khalil
Download or read book Keys to the Cestode Parasites of Vertebrates written by L. F. Khalil and published by C A B International. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 751 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most previous publications on the classification of tapeworms (cestodes) have been based on compilations from the literature and are now dated. Thus there is a real need for up-to-date keys based on the re-examination of specimens and on a re-evaluation of the characters employed in cestode taxonomy. This book fulfils this need and provides keys to enable specialists and non-specialists to identify cestodes to generic level. The keys are dichotomous and are based largely on morphological characters. The authors have re-examined many specimens, including type specimens where possible. As a result, the keys reflect new ideas and have lead to reappraisals of cestode taxonomy, particularly at family and generic level, with many reallocations and synonymies. The authors include 19 international authorities from the UK, USA, Australia, Brazil, France, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Bulgaria and the Ukraine. The book includes approximately 1,700 illustrations and is a standard work on tapeworm identification and will be indispensable for parasitologists.
