Book excerpt: In a borderless world, all would be travelers indeed. India is a small borderless world in itself, and Kerala lies at the southernmost tip. I live almost near the lovely Kashmir, but does that make Kerala any less lovely! This book is indeed author's baby born out of his love of nature. "Writing books is the closest men ever came to having children." --Norman Mailer Kerala is beautiful not only because of "God" but also because of the people who have made Kerala their home. The author went there as a parasite in the disguise of a tourist and sucked all he could in a short span of 23 days. But did anybody ever complain? No, never. The Keralans believe the joy multiplies by sharing, and hereby the author emulate them. The book is divided into four chapters concentrated on four famous locations in Kerala: Munnar, Kochi, Alleppey and Varkala. The author's experience in Munnar has been presented as a love story, albeit with nature. Kochi is where the author enlivened and discovered himself as a younger person, and the experience is shared in a canvas of activities involving art, history, luxury, people and sports. Alleppey is known for its backwater cruises; however, the author experienced it as an intriguing world so very different and exciting, climaxing into a thrilling snake boat race experience. Varkala is a place to relax, so did the author, but a bit differently; and the difference is author's unique experience shared with the readers.

While staying true to its literary form these stories provide a tour into the heart and soul of contemporary Kerala and aim at getting past the twentieth-century characterizations of the state say as defined by communist egalitarian spirit or matrilineal families. After all Kerala is unique in more ways than one thanks to the heightened experience of migration and transnationalism among other things. This collection also succinctly encapsulates the varied landscapes of Kerala: the highlands the coastal areas and the growing urban centres. They move in and out of homes and take the readers into older spaces-convents and panchayats-and the new spaces of the capital-airports and tourist resorts-as well as the world of criminals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Modern Anthropology of India is an accessible textbook providing a critical overview of the ethnographic work done in India since 1947. It assesses the history of research in each region and serves as a practical and comprehensive guide to the main themes dealt with by ethnographers. It highlights key analytical concepts and paradigms that came to be of relevance in particular regions in the recent history of research in India, and which possibly gained a pan-Indian or even trans-Indian significance. Structured according to the states of the Indian union, contributors raise several key questions, including: What themes were ethnographers interested in? What are the significant ethnographic contributions? How are peoples, communities and cultural areas represented? How has the ethnographic research in the area developed? Filling a significant gap in the literature, the book is an invaluable resource to students and researchers in the field of Indian anthropology/ethnography, regional anthropology and postcolonial studies. It is also of interest to students of South Asian studies in general as it provides an extensive and critical overview of regionally based ethnographic activity undertaken in India.

It's always the situations and our reaction towards them which decides how good or bad we are, as a person; and when it comes to boys, the world is always judgmental. Here is a story about a boy- the protagonist of the story "RAJ" and his journey of transition from "Boy to Man".

It is a collection of short stories, ruminations of a random wanderer and dateless notes on life’s tipping points. Through the pages, we meet many familiar characters, the way they talk, think and act. As someone commented, “Many of us think of writing these stories from life but never get around to doing it.” Do you like reading an amusing letter from a friend? Then Coconut Country Musings will compel you to read the stories more than once. The writer sits next to you and entertains with his dramatic descriptions. He will engage you in a conversation that will take you through nature, make you feel and smell its salubrious ambience. And there are memories of a familiar childhood and episodes of youthful adventures. You may face surprises, accidental meetings and a few sagacious axioms that would pep you up. If the reader lived in the last three decades of the last century in India, then you can relate with the writer. If you are a millennial kid, you meet an uncle who lived in that sliver of land in the south of India, Kerala – the Coconut Country.

Book excerpt: Discover the healing power of hugs and how they can improve your life and your world in twnty-one days with this amazing guide. Dr. Stone’s prescription is for a twenty-one-second hug today and every day. One of the many benefits of hugging is that longer hugs have proven physiological benefits. Hugs are good for your immune system, your stress response, your sleep patterns, and so much more. Hug Therapy brings to life the meaning of hugging. In this book, you will discover: What it means to really, truly give yourself and others the profound gift of a hug How to be powerfully in action and more aware of what matters to you most That you may choose to begin hugging some strangers . . . with their blessing of course And perhaps most importantly, that together, one literal or metaphorical hug at a time, we make the world a better, healthier, and more connected place. Hug Therapy shares a full-on, unconditional hug from Dr. Stone Kraushaar. In this book, he invites you to wrap your arms around yourself, your life, and everyone around you in a whole new way. A good embrace?a hug?squeezes every ounce of fear, worry, and negativity out of your spirit, leaving you with nothing but warmth, inner peace, and a feeling of connection. Most people have difficulty remembering the last time someone gave them an all-encompassing hug. Hug Therapy encourages you to change that, one physical or metaphorical embrace at a time. It’s a “do good and feel great” book that will help you live more in the moment and stay tuned into what really matters. Praise for Hug Therapy “A re-envisioned, expanded, and brilliant twist that richly brings out the power of hugging in just 21 days. It teaches about the self-hug and how to bring it into one's outer circle, creating balance and harmony for the traveler.”?Kevin Zaborney, BA, MDiv, founder of National Hugging Day “Hug Therapy disrupts the simple act of a hug, turning it into a way to spark connection within you, your community, with strangers . . . and it may just end up bringing our planet to awareness of being one. Crazy, awesome hugs?of course you should become a part of this movement!”?Mich Hancock, co-founder of TEDxGatewayArch, host of MichMash Podcast

This was the exact time that Danilo Perrotti Machado took to travel around the planet on a bicycle. Seeking to get to know the world and himself, Danilo left his hometown, Belo Horizonte, and went on a journey through 59 countries, covering 50,000 kilometers across Planet Earth. This exciting adventure is called “Free Man”. His goal was to get to know the peoples and cultures of the world, moved by his own physical effort, discovering at the same time the simple essence of being alive. The trip starts in Brazil followed by Europe, crossing the Middle East and a stretch of North Africa, traversing Asia and its appealing cultural diversity, then he goes to Oceania, descending the Americas and, finally, with a lot of pedaling, he arrives in the Amazon, with a surprising jump in the river that takes him back to Brazil. Free Man talks about what can happen when you realize that it is your own mind that dictates the circumstances you live in, with many accurate remarks about your existence, the way of life of rich and poor countries, the awakening of a man with the sun, moon and stars, most often alone, facing imminent death, danger and difficulty in communicating with foreign languages. A story that makes the reader find the pleasure of traveling very far on a bike, in an adventure that ends and starts after each page, taking him to travel within himself, with an intertwining that only great narratives possesses. It will certainly thrill anyone willing to embark on an immersive journey through Planet Earth and, at the same time, the human soul.
