Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reverend Father Anthony Odinakachi Nwachukwu, Ph.D., Psy.D., has ventured into unchartered territory in this provocative and stimulating study of the creative integration of spiritual psychology and the West African mind. His insightful probing into the inner workings of the human mind and spiritual development as epitomized in human relationships is a major contribution to the related fields of West African studies, spiritual psychology, and religious consciousness. John H. Morgan, President Ph.D. (Hartford), D.Sc. (London), Psy.D. (FH/Oxford) Senior Fellow of Foundation House, Oxford. If discipline [i.e. - doing the right thing when no one is watching] and sound moral living are the measurements for solid education, self-fulfillments, religious practices and healthy relationships, then, the book has said it all. It has, not only, provided the various management strategies that resuscitate broken relationships, but also, created conscious inner strengths that keep the healthy ones alive, both in the private and public sectors. I recommend that everybody joins Nwachukwu in this timely opportunity and the 21st century campaign for sound radical changes in the individual lives and society. Anthony J. Grieco, MD, MACP, Professor of Medicine, NYU School of Medicine The African erudite author once more avails every reader of his psychological insight into the secrets of maintaining a healthy relationship. While promoting a positive and optimistic attitude, he gets to the root of the illusions, presumptions and projections that impact negatively on its attainment. The author's reflections in a way seem to have translated the Tillichian idea of the paradoxical co-existence of the good and the bad into its psychological, ethical and practical relevance. I highly recommend this book to everyone who is out to make his life a success story. Dr.-theol. Sylvester I. Ihuoma, Delegate for Africans, University of Muenster, Germany. * Wow! This book is more of the GPS system that guides each individual life. It is actually a book for every rational person. Joan Bareth, (NM, NYU) * Many authors have written on a variety of related subjects on human relationships. But this book practically touches on every aspect of human life, political, socio-religious, spiritual etc and this makes it unique for everybody to read. Mr. Andrew Clerico (Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, NY) Sex has no religion I agree. Your book is as exciting as the Action Alert Tonic AAT you have provided for the young generation and society. Congratulations! Dr. Innocent E. Gubor (Upstate University, SYR, NY)

Dr. Michael K. Onyekwere, SDV The Conflicting Influence of the Christian Messages in Igboland examines how the homogeneity of a people called the Igbos was destroyed. What they held as sacrosanct degenerated under conflicting and pluralistic Christian messages, thereby replicating the Babel experience in Genesis. With this book, Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael K. Onyekwere, SDV wishes to draw readers’ attention to identify the reasons why there is a breakdown of the values that gave identity to Igboland, threatening their identity as one people. He hopes to offer some solutions and leave some room for further work to be done in the area of conflict management and ecumenism.

Book excerpt: God and the Human Environment: Catholic Principles of Environmental Stewardship as a Template for Action in Nigeria brings into conversation the Churchs theological reflection on the mandate to care for Gods creation and the circumstances of the environment in Nigeria. In vivid terms and with systemic thinking, Fr. Jude Osunkwo, a theologian who specializes in Environmental Studies and Pastoral Catechesis, explores the biblical, theological, magisterial, and doctrinal bases that underlie a faithful response to contemporary environmental challenges. After setting the stage with a summation of the issues and a survey of significant ecclesiastical statements on the topic of the environment, God and the Human Environment addresses Catholic theological principles of stewardship, Christian responsibility, and the ethics of development. Then the discussion turns to the environment of Nigeria, assessing its current state and reviewing the causes and consequences of environmental challenges before proposing pastoral responses for the Church. Finally, some chapters address likely developments in Nigeria and the Church. An extensive bibliography and several appendices provide additional support. God and the Human Environment is a rigorously researched and passionately presented exploration of the issues growing out of the environmental circumstances Nigerians currently face. Whether you live in Nigeria or count yourself as a member of the Catholic Church and live somewhere else, God and the Human Environment explores a topic that promises to make a difference in your life and to protect the part of the environment that God has created for you to tend.

Book excerpt: In this book the author uses the African proverb and philosophy of “Life is War” as a learning tool to advise the youth and even younger leaders of today on how to examine their lives and succeed in a modern competitive world, and finally how to live in peace with each other. Using the admonishing of elders of the Masai warrior tribe to their growing youth as they enter adulthood, the author touches on common areas of life for the youth and adults in handling modern life conflicts in human relationships, career paths, challenges and perspectives in America and the Western world. Using his own personal experience growing up in the beautiful small town of Abetifi through Presbyterian schools, through high school in Kumasi, Ghana, and to University of California at Berkeley, the author brings this ancient wisdom to touch and advice the people he calls his nephews, nieces and loved ones behind on relationships, jobs and career paths, marriage and divorce, setting personal and professional goals and how to cope economically and survive on this earth. In the latter chapters the author touches on human competitiveness and prejudices, using this philosophy to explain racism and animosity, political tensions in America, poverty and wealth gap in human society, and eventually how to live in peace with each other. This books is a must read for the youth in the modern world as well as adults trying to puzzle out the meaning of life, society, war and peace.

Book excerpt: The Igbo people in Nigeria continue to make some movements toward Christianity, but many fail to practice the faith properly. Tribal traditions and old beliefs continue to be mixed with Christian concepts. By exploring the problem from a psychological and pastoral perspective, author Bartholomew N. Okere seeks to discover ways to advance the Christian faith. Okere, an ordained Catholic priest, asks serious questions about the nature of religion: - Can someone believe in a supernatural being without any proof that the being is affecting his life? li> Can the notion of God be therapeutic in any sense, especially when people face diff rent life-threatening situations? Can a hungry person sing and praise God on empty stomach? Can the name of God be employed for political gains? The Christian religion in Nigeria has dramatically affected the people of Igboland. Discover why this is so important, and learn more about faith, religion, and life in Nigeria in An Appraisal of the Growth of the Christian Faith in Igboland.

Book excerpt: Beyond the Iceberg: A Case for Emotional Healing presents a step-by-step investigation into human nature, considering why so many people get angry, producing an intense response without any good reason. Through her experience and professional studies, author Dr. Christine Onu offers antidotes to those hidden reasons causing people appear to be sick when there is no actual sickness. There are many problems plaguing society today for which the root causes are not self-evident. We are naturally inclined to think and care for ourselves and our own safety more than we think or care for others. But nobody is an island; we need each other for life to be more meaningful. While there is absolute need for each of us to take proper care of ourselves, we should also be interested in the needs and progress of others. Beyond the Iceberg explores the value of psychology as a necessary tool to deal with and understand human behaviors and the problems that arise in interpersonal relationships, so that we are better able to resolve conflicts when they arise. Each of us creates our own life story and reality—who we are as human beings. Beyond the Iceberg considers the hidden emotions that create problems in our relationships, at work, and at home, while examining the causes for our psychological challenges and possible solutions.

Perhaps it was the last sound played at the disco or perhaps theres a certain riff in a song that haunts you? Perhaps its one of those songs which have a special meaning for you or a special person in your life? Whatever the reason we all have had musical influences throughout our life and some we have deliberately chosen whilst others have crept in because we watch television and listen to the radio. We also have been subjected to other musical influences from shops, restaurants, churches, dance halls and anyone whistling or singing near us. Why was it almost impossible to remember Shakespeares quotations when I tried to learn them for school yet I can remember words to songs without even trying to memorise them? As someone who has made a living from playing music for others to listen to it has interested me greatly to find out whether any of the records which have made the popular music charts has had a greater influence on me than I have realized. I will also try to remember the words to the songs I heard in my younger years without using either reference books or a safety net! I will also attempt to put the music in some kind of time frame looking at what else was happening aside from the music. I will also identify how my own appreciation of music has evolved and that charts become less important with age. This will be the basis of a large part of my book. I will also try to show that I have had to show a good amount of true grit and determination in order to eventually find the job I had always wanted from my childhood days of listening to Radio Luxembourg and Radio Caroline. Moreover, it takes a lifetime to really see your priorities. Join me now in my musical voyage of discovery.

It constitutes a definitive presentation of the system of classifying moral judgment built up by Lawrence Kolberg and his associates over a period of twenty years. Researchers in human development and education around the world, many of whom have worked with interim versions of the system - indeed, all those seriously interested in understanding the development of moral judgment - will find it a useful and accessible resource. Volume 2 includes the scoring systems for three alternate, functionally equivalent forms of Kohlberg's moral judgment interview.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the United States encounters more competition in the marketplace, American companies must change in order to survive. This book is designed to be a comprehensive reference to those involved in salvaging and empowering as many employees as possible. Few managers and supervisors are adequately trained to effectively handle the diverse and complex human relations problems that characterize business and industries undergoing organizational changes. Relevant management theories and research data pertaining to these human relations issues are discussed in this book. Special attention is given to effective ways to empower employees and to handle confrontations that grow from race, gender, sexual orientation, age, and emotional differences, which often emerge when organizations grow or downsize to meet competition pressures. No other work includes such a broad approach to human relations in the workplace. Chief executive officers, managers, supervisors, and students in business management courses on university levels will find this especially interesting as they deal with the dysfunctional aspects of competition manifest in the workplace. Training and development specialists and human resources professionals should also be interested.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller Over 10 million copies sold In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be "positive" all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people. For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F**k positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected American society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up. Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited—"not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault." Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek. There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives.
