Book excerpt: As few books regarding American history have achieved, Jim Stempel’s The Enemy Harassed brings a previously neglected period of the American Revolution to life. In late December 1776, the American War of Independence appeared to be on its last legs. General George Washington’s continental forces had been reduced to a shadow of their former strength, the British Army had chased them across the Delaware River into Pennsylvania, and enlistments for many of the rank and file would be up by month’s end. Desperate times call for desperate measures, however, and George Washington responded to this crisis with astonishing audacity. On Christmas night 1776, he recrossed the Delaware as a nor’easter churned up the coast, burying his small detachment under howling sheets of snow and ice. Undaunted, they attacked a Hessian brigade at Trenton, New Jersey, taking the German auxiliaries by complete surprise. Then, only three days later, Washington struck again, crossing the Delaware, slipping away from the British at Trenton, and attacking the Redcoats at Princeton—to their utter astonishment. The British, now back on their heels, retreated toward New Brunswick as Washington’s reinvigorated force followed them north into Jersey. Over the next eight months, Washington’s continentals and the state militias of New Jersey would go head-to-head with the British in a multitude of small-scale actions and large-scale battles, eventually forcing the British to flea New Jersey by sea. In this captivating narrative of the American War of Independence, author Jim Stempel brings to life one of the most violent, courageous, yet virtually forgotten periods of the Revolutionary War. Sure to enthrall professional historians and book lovers of all stripes, The Enemy Harassed is scholarly history presented in an accessible style anyone can enjoy.

Book excerpt: ANCIENT GREEK PHILOSOPHY ~ Collective Wisdom of 26 Greek Thinkers ~ “To find yourself, think of yourself”. These are the words of Socrates, one of the pioneers of Greek Philosophy. Philosophy comes from the Greek words “Phylos” meaning - to love and “Sophie” meaning - wisdom, thus literally meaning “to love wisdom”. They have contributed much to the society and their quotes are thought provoking. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of this three-volume work reviews the history of efforts to define biblical righteousness. Modern views are engaged and critiqued, from the seminal article (1860) by Ludwig Diestel (God's righteousness as the agreement of his will and purpose) to others in the theological stream known as the "New Perspective." Scholars discussed include Walther Eichrodt, Gerhard von Rad, Elizabeth Achtemeier, James D. G. Dunn and N. T. Wright. Other perspectives are also engaged, including H. H. Schmid's definition of righteousness as conformity to the created order (Weltordnung), John Piper's view that God's righteousness is God's concern for his own glory, and the traditional view, championed by C. L. Irons, that God's righteousness is his iustitia distributiva. The author examines these views, all of which have been supported by inductive studies, in light of a proposed alternative: that righteousness is conformity to God's Being and doing. That definition will be explored further in Volumes II (OT) and III (NT). Unlike previous studies, the present work proceeds deductively and experimentally, and thereby seeks to avoid the pitfalls of a dogmatic approach. Extra-biblical, patristic, medieval, and reformation views of righteousness are also considered as background to the modern study of righteousness.

On perusal of these quotes following facts emerge: 1) The human race loves to live in peace. The religions, though was intended to achieve peace in society, have unfortunately been one of the main reasons for wars, crimes, destruction, and genocides because of the intolerance among the believers since faith is blind. Rationality had been and is the first casualty. 2) All the religions are the gifts of the East. The gifts of the west are communism and Atheism. 3) Things once considered as blasphemies have come to be accepted as truth. The example of Galileo Galilei is remarkable. 5)The governing principles have been evolutionary. There can never be a uniformed pattern of governance as peoples differ in their thinking and beliefs for that reasons there have been clashes of civilization down the ages. 6)The exploration of our solar systems is the result of endless and insatiable urge in man to unravel nature. The achievements of science and technology belong to the whole of humanity. I have tried to present a snapshot profile of March of human civilization through the voices of the great minds ever walked on mother earth. This compilation will serve as ready reckoner
