Book Synopsis Just Like Down Home by : Dale Stubbart
Download or read book Just Like Down Home written by Dale Stubbart and published by Dale Stubbart. This book was released on with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just like down home is a phrase my Grandpa said a lot. It’s a fancy way of saying everything went just fine. My Grandpa had a lot of phrases which he said repeated quite often. Some people call them Hillbilly phrases. But as my Grandpa said, he was a Mountain William, not a Hill Billy. My favorite phrase of his was his response when asked how he was. Why I’m fine as a frog’s hair and twice as curly. In this story, Joel September’s life is not going that great. He’s stuck in a job he really hates, but it pays the bills. But then a crisis happens, one which starts his life flowing in a much better direction. And Joel starts to be aware that very soon his life is going to be just like down home! Tonight Joel had no worries. Things were about to change for the better, he could feel it in his bones. “The toe bone’s connected to the … foot bone”, Joel began to sing to himself. Well his singing wasn’t perfect. It was off-key as usual. It was nice to know he was still human. Joel left the sidewalk and continued on across a field of grass. He kept one eye to the ground, on the lookout for presents left by stray dogs. But somehow, he couldn’t focus on the ground tonight. His spirits were just too high. Pretty soon, Joel felt like he was walking on air. It was a wonderful feeling, to feel like you were floating. Joel walked past the Pearly Gates, where St Peter had just posted a “No Trespassing” sign. Joel laughed at the sign and called out, “Very funny Pete”, as he walked by. “I thought you’d enjoy it”, St Peter called back, and then hurried to take the sign back down. Heaven wouldn’t be Joel’s destination tonight, nor for a long time to come. He had too much going right for him on earth. And soon, very soon, things would be going so much more rightly. Rating PG13; Reading Level Very Easy 4th Grade; Longest Word; Straightening

Bettie Hughes once knew the comfort of luxury, flaunting a collection of designer purses and an enviable dream home in Hawaii. That was before she lost all her money. Long obsessed with her public image, Bettie boasts an extravagant lifestyle on social media. But the reality is Bettie is broke and squatting in Colorado, and her family has no idea. Christmas, with its pressure to meet familial expectations, is looming when Bettie plays a vinyl record of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” backward and accidentally conjures up Hall, the Holiday Spirit, in the form of a charming and handsome (if offbeat) man. Once the shock wears off, Bettie knows she’s stumbled upon the greatest gift: a chance to make all her holiday wishes come true, plus a ready-made fiancé. But as some of Bettie’s wishes lose their charm, she finds herself thrown off-kilter by Hall’s sweet nature. Suddenly, grumpy Bettie is finding her heart merry and light. Download or read book Just Like Me written by Archie Morrison and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-06-13 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Just Like Me: Beyond the Thousand-Yard Stare" contains battle scenes as vivid as those in a Tom Hanks movie and psychic twists and turns reminiscent of Hitchcock. — Don Duncan, retired journalist and World War II Army veteran "Just Like Me" is an exciting, riveting read. It will do much to further the understanding of the emotional turmoil resulting from war. — Carol Lodmell, retired educator This open and honest story is, I like to think, a freeing of some of Archie Morrison's demons into the ether to dilution and impotence. I like to think, too, that in its expression of hope, it is also about man seeking something much better than the worst he can do to others (and himself). It helps express, not just Archie's aspirations, but ours as well. — Richard Prince, retired dentist and Vietnam Navy veteran Archie Morrison creates an account of an unbelievable friendship that becomes believable when we see that it is built on truths that war diminishes but does not extinguish. — Denzil Walters, retired teacher and editor; World War II Navy veteran

Book excerpt: Two childhood rivals are forced to work together to plan their parents’ anniversary party in “this pitch-perfect enemies-to-lovers rom-com.” (BookPage) New Yorker Molly Blum knows everything about her lifelong nemesis, Jude Stark. With their families so close, they should have been best friends. Instead, she thinks he’s a too-charming slacker, and he thinks she’s allergic to fun. After years of one-upping each other’s pranks (chocolate-dipped cat treats are not as delicious as they appear), one high school joke went too far, and they stopped speaking completely. But now that they’re supposed to help plan a massive party for their parents—together—there’s no better time to resume their war. And it is on. Only somewhere between all the sniping and harmless hijinks, a reluctant friendship develops, along with an unexpected spark of sexual tension. It might have to do with the fact that she’s been dating Jude-lookalikes and he’s been dating Molly doppelgangers. Or the fact that neither of them is nearly as horrible as they thought. All Molly and Jude know is that they’ve mastered the art of hating each other. Falling in love, on the other hand, is a whole new battlefield.
