Book excerpt: From the author-illustrator of Children's Choice Book Award Winner I'm Trying to Love Spiders: a plea to please give bees a chance! Not sure whether to high-five bees or run away from them? Well, maybe you shouldn't high-five them, but you definitely don't have to run away from them. Give Bees a Chance is for anyone who doesn't quite appreciate how extra special and important bees are to the world, and even to humankind! Besides making yummy honey, they help plants grow fruits and vegetables. And most bees wouldn't hurt a fly (unless it was in self-defense!). Bethany Barton's interactive cartoon-style illustrations and hilarious narrator mean this book is full of facts and fun. With bees officially on the endangered animals list, it's more important now than ever to get on board with our flying, honey-making friends!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seeley, a world authority on honey bees, sheds light on why wild honey bees are still thriving while those living in managed colonies are in crisis. Drawing on the latest science as well as insights from his own pioneering fieldwork, he describes in extraordinary detail how honey bees live in nature and shows how this differs significantly from their lives under the management of beekeepers. Seeley presents an entirely new approach to beekeeping--Darwinian Beekeeping--which enables honey bees to use the toolkit of survival skills their species has acquired over the past thirty million years, and to evolve solutions to the new challenges they face today. He shows beekeepers how to use the principles of natural selection to guide their practices, and he offers a new vision of how beekeeping can better align with the natural habits of honey bees.

Not my sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, or any one elses just mine. This book is not to offend anyone, find fault with anyone, but to be of help to someone. Its the way I saw things and the things that happened to me. This is a true account of my life as it unfolded day after day month after month and year after year. The things that happened to me as a child, I had no controll over, I was only five years old when I started recalling these things. This is not a pretty story, but never the less a true one. Some of the things I did are not very pleasing to read but I found that I should get them out into the opening for the healing of my life to take place. The words might be of help to someone else. If you ever find yourself in a situation like mine you will know that you are not the only one and that there are many, many people in this world, who carries the same kind tourture on their shoulders. I hope the book will help them get throught the pain, and suffering in their lives. I was embrassed and just plain ashamed for over twenty years myself. In 1995-96 I facilitated a small drug prevention class called (Project Charlie) Chemical Abuse Resolutions Lies in Education. While instructing this class I learned much better how to enjoy my life as it is right now. I learned to be honest with myself. I realized that I had nothing to hide and I made up my mind to share with the world some of the things that had influenced me to do the things that I did. I was inspired to write this true story of my life one day as I was talking to the class about being ashamed and afraid.. Through some of these experiences I learned a valuable lesson, something I will never forget. I know now that no matter how hard life seems to be treating you, you can raise above all your doubts and fears and change your own destiny; and become happy in this life. I say to you if there has been anything in your life to bound you down, cripple you, and stop you from living a good and desent life get rid of it, get it off of your shoulder, dont let it get the best of you, chew it up and spit it out, so you can live a regret free life existence. I was born Alice Fay Joy Young in Henderson (Rusk County) Texas, December 1st. 1944, to a Mr. and Mrs. Henry (Blue) and Corene Young. My mother called me (Titty). My siblings called me Fay. I never liked the name Fay. I dont know why but I never did. Mom said she called me Titty because she was so sick when I was born. She births me while going through metaphase. I was lucky to be born at that time of her life. I couldnt nurse her breast and I was allergic to cows milk, so she had to make me what she called a sugar tit. She had to make it with malted milk. I never did find out how she got that milk, I did wonder from time to time (when she was telling me about my life) how we could afford it; being as poor as we were. I was the last child of thirteen. Her last little curly haired baby girl. (Shed often stated so affectionally). I had a head full of sandy colored curly hair, very light skin, brown eyes and I had my thumb and pointer finger in my mouth when I came out. I know this to be true because, I sucked those two fingers until I was about fifteen years old. I sometimes now curl my thumb and pointer up and put them into my mouth just to see what I got out of them, but they just dont taste the way they did then.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The majority of errors, litigation, and complaints in the health service are due to 'human factors', yet the term is still not widely understood and is sometimes used interchangeably to refer to team training or communication skills. Although including these, the subject of 'human factors' goes far beyond this to look at systems, environmental influences, and interactions with equipment, in addition to self-awareness and human interaction. All of these aspects are captured in Human Factors in Healthcare and are built into a new framework: the SHEEP model, which breaks down into five key areas: Systems, Human Interaction, Environment, Equipment, and Personal, providing a structured way to focus on adopting 'safety positive' behaviours. Written in a clear and engaging way, the book is ideal for clinicians and non-clinicians alike. Through the use of relevant real world healthcare examples and exercises the book encourages interaction and thinking, as well as illustrating how mistakes can be avoided. The book also sets out ways on how to improve the experience of patients and staff across healthcare, in particular focusing on how to improve patient safety. In light of regular news reports about patient care, Human Factors in Healthcare presents a timely and proactive approach to these issues and is essential reading for doctors, nurses, managers, and everyone working in the healthcare profession.

Okay, I'll ask him," were Zac's last words before he handed the phone back to Jake. Jack eyed him curiously, wondering what that had been about. "Mom wants to know if you want to stay and have dinner. She said to make sure it's okay with your mom first?" "Zac, why would your mom..." Jake stopped, the light bulb suddenly going on. "Zac, what have you told your mom about me?" "I said you were my new friend and that you helped me with football," Zac replied matter-of-factly. "Did you tell her anything else...like that I'm not a kid?" Jake ventured as they started to walk. "I don't think so." "And why not?" "She never asked me. Why, is that important?" Zac asked innocently, his attention still on his sore finger. "I made sure you weren't a stranger. That's the rule." Tori, Zac's mom, suddenly finds herself thrown into the middle of the struggle she has done her best to avoid--her inability to let go of the past and accept the possibility of a new future. With her parents by her side rooting for this victory, Tori continues to wrestle with the fallout of a failed marriage. Would God even be enough to guide her through her fears and push her past her pain in order to reach the other side? With her and Zac's future on the line, she needs to muster up the courage to find out before it is too late.

Book excerpt: What do you do when you want to find your faith, but don't know where to start? Lifestyle blogger Ashley Hetherington tackles the question so we can finally start living the life that's waiting for us. Many women have no idea how to get into their faith. It's even easier for them to wonder what the heck is out there and if there really is someone Divine looking over them. Ashley Hetherington understands this problem. But she also discovered that no matter where you come from or how much you know, there is a way to start a relationship with Jesus from scratch. Her experience helps us: · Learn how to pray, and see that it's a lot easier than you'd think.· Open up the Bible and actually understand it.· Find a church home, even if you don't have anyone to go with.· Make friends that will support you on your faith journey, and what Christian community looks like. Hetherington, a former Jesus-googler herself, delivers just how you can find your faith from ground zero. By the end of A Scoop Of Honey, you will understand more about your purpose, gain a sense of your worth, and you will surely feel closer to your Maker.
