Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author’s family heritage is traced back to convict stock with the mother’s side Irish and the father’s English. Tasi was born on a remote Bass Strait Island at the end of the great depression and before the initiation of World War Two, virtually living off the land with little schooling. Mother nature and necessity was his education. On horseback with a gun in hand, trapping, fishing and hunting, while mainly dairy farming with his father and two elder siblings was the norm. Amidst the conveniences of today, Tasi never experienced electricity or even riding in a car, and all this within the first ten years of his life. The author was always going to be a soldier with his families’ military history detailing ten members, which involved service in World War One and World War Two. He was the only member that joined during peace time though his military service, which covered almost twenty-six years, included overseas involvement in the warring campaign of The Malayan Emergency and two tours of Viet Nam. Tasi’s post-military service included involvement in the 100th anniversary (2018) of the battles on the Western Front with a presentation to the Mayor of Montbrehain, France (the village reclaimed in General Monash’s last conflict of World War One utilising the Australian Imperial Forces), Dawn Services at both Gallipoli, Turkey and Villers Bretonneux, France, which upon invitation, included a wreath-laying ceremony at Menin Gate, Ypres Belgium on behalf of Australia. Interlaced within this is the author’s rugby career over forty years, in both service and civilian capacity. The book details the many stories of his involvement as a player, captain, and captain/coach of local and representative military rugby in both the northern and southern hemispheres. This then transpired into a tenure of involvement within Queensland Rugby Union. Insightfully at another layer Tasi also shares the creation and his Australian involvement with the development of the Veterans and Golden Oldies Rugby movement up to an international level. The travelling experience of the author covers six continents with much of it being rugby-related though also covers numerous other sporting experiences. It involves some of the world’s great and renowned sporting identities with Tasi being entertained by some. This book is factual, historical, political, sporting, humorous and sad, which reaches out to an age group from the 1930s into the twenty-first century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sports law has been growing with increasing rapidity over the years since the first edition of this book was published in 1999, regularly making headlines as well as leading to a developing body of law practised by specialist lawyers. This revised work, by leading practitioners in the field, with a foreword by Lord Coe, provides a coherent framework for understanding the principles of sports law in this area, as well as a deep analysis of its key features. The subject is split into various areas of practice: first, regulatory rules, which embrace the constitutional aspect of organised sport, including the disciplinary procedures of the various governing organisations; second, broadcasting and marketing resulting from the commercial exploitation, including sponsorship, of sports clubs, sporting events and players; and third, player's rights and obligations, which embraces a wide range of legal issues including club transfers and player contracts, and issues arising from employment (including discrimination law), personal injury and criminal law. Special attention is paid to the impact of EU and Human Rights law as well as to the influential jurisprudence of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. London 2012 provides an appropriate point at which to assess the current state of the law, as well as a look to the future. The target readership extends from solicitors, barristers and legal advisers, to sports organisations and clubs, corporations involved in marketing and sponsorship, media companies, academics teaching sports law, and sports administrators. “I commend it to everyone who has to administer sport as well as to those who have to advise the administrators or argue cases in the field on whatever side. It is a gold medal book.” From the Foreword by Lord Coe KBE This title is included in Bloomsbury Professional's Sports Law online service.

Book excerpt: In our world of global superstar footballers, it’s easy to forget the grassroots of a sport where loyalty to a hometown club is often rock solid – and counts for everything. Even as local communities come under threat, football fandom still pulls us together. But why is this? What is the special magic that connects towns and teams? For many of us, the local club offers it all: passion, hope, heartache, drama. And a sense of belonging. The town where we grew up and all the places we’ve lived are the bedrock of our lives, and memories of seeing the local team play are inextricably intertwined with our sense of place and identity. Steve Leach spends a year visiting the twenty towns and clubs that are special to him. He celebrates the distinctiveness of these places, the fascinating differences between Lincoln and Leyton, Barrow and Birmingham, Macclesfield and Morecambe – towns and teams that may not be glamorous, but they are unique and, more importantly, they are home.

Before Sara even meets Charlie, she hates him. He's insulted her best friend -a woman Sara considers family- and that is unforgivable. In person he proves to be just as obnoxious and insufferable as she'd anticipated. And, as far as she's concerned, the fact that he's tall and muscular with an accent to die for is not enough to redeem him. Charlie Rhodes is an arrogant A--hole (with a capital A!) and that's all there is to it! For his part, Charlie thinks Sara is a conceited pain in the arse. A prissy princess to the nth degree. It becomes his prerogative to get under her skin for the sheer pleasure of riling her up. He feels genuine enjoyment in the face of her frustration, and he makes no secret of it. Besides, she gives as good as she gets! Fundamentally opposed in every way, it's obvious to those around them that they're not going to get along. But unfortunately, thanks to their respective families, they are stuck in each other's lives for the foreseeable future. Being civil is as good as it is going to get...or is it? When their relationship turns from reluctant acquaintances to red hot lovers, they find it's good. Really good. What could possibly go wrong? In a slow-burn romance that follows hot on the heels of Handle With Care*, Sara and Charlie discover that you really can't rush romance. *Both Handle With Care and You Can't Hurry Love can be read as standalone novels in the expanding Jukebox Collection series. Please be advised that this novel does contain adult themes that may not be considered appropriate for persons under 18 years of age.

Book excerpt: 'I had not lived in the former pit village of Lynemouth since 1961 but the winding road north from Newcastle will always be the same nostalgic highway, each twist charged with vivid memories and powerful emotions...' So begins a story full of wonderful humour, emotional candour and hardy tales of tough times - a quietly epic family saga set amid the pit villages of the North East . It stretches from the 1920s, before Sid's parents had even met, to the final closing of the mine and his mother's death in 1999. Sid paints a picture of a colourful, tight knit community full of good times and hard work, god-fearing women and hard-drinking men. Always dominating the skyline is Auld Betty, the pit head that took the men away each day and, with a prayer, brought them back each evening. Amongst the unforgettable cast of his extended family and friends, we follow the Waddells' attempts to stay afloat and provide a better future and possible escape for youngsters like Sid.

Book excerpt: Because it's Saturday is a compelling portrait of life in the professional grass roots of football, far from the glitz and glamour of Premier League superstars. Why does anyone travel from Grimsby to Accrington on a wet Tuesday night in November to watch players battling on a muddy pitch with more gusto than grace? How do teams survive in half-empty stadia, and how does a Cotswolds village side owned by an ex-hippy challenge the likes of Luton for promotion? Award-winning writer Gavin Bell spoke to the owners, managers, players and supporters of eight lower-league sides, over the course of a season, to discover the fierce passions and loyalties that sustain clubs unlikely to win anything other than the devotion of their fans. Going beyond the fields of dreams, Bell explores the communities for whom these clubs are more than football teams. From gritty northern towns blighted by post-industrial decline, to ivory towers of academia and a seaside resort riven by a fans' civil war - it's a rollercoaster ride of a season.

But when the artist suddenly dies by a falling limb, the boys are provided with a new and much deeper understanding of their communityand the fragility of life itself.
