Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this novel, two groups stand hostile to each other. On one side Walter “Jungle” Joris, Tigra, the wild girl of the jungle, raised by cats, Ariana, cruel queen of the Amazon Warrior Girls, (sexy) Trazilla, the swamp witch, the Mega Frogs, Beard Brain (his beard is a second brain), the sorcerers Paradamus and Stickman (completely made out of wooden branches), Blowpipe Mike, and Lisa “long legs”… On the other side the evil Professor Silberstein, Doctor Minsky, Ilsa, leader of the (sexy) Fem-Fascist “Gestapettes”, Elizabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess, Vlad the Impaler, the Crab, the New Nazis, the demon Baphomet, intelligent chairs… The fight is about trying to retrieve the advanced technology of an alien spacecraft that crashed in an Amazonian lake, 30.000 years ago. The final decisive action is taken by Satan. The book is foremost an explosion of unlimited fantasy, and (sometimes dark) humor, in a universe where almost everything is possible. The moral boundaries between good and evil “heroes” aren’t always clear.

This book, first published in 1984 and now in paperback for the first time, remains one of the best studies of popular resistance and peasant rebellion. This revised edition features a new introduction, which provides an update on the historiography of peasant revolt. The author also charts some of these changes and their relevance to a deeper understanding of the uprising of 1857.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Indonesian Confrontation that raged from 1963 to 1966 stemmed from Indonesia’s opposition to the creation of Malaysia. Fighting in the challenging jungle terrain of Borneo and in the countryside straddling the Malaysia/Indonesia border, where there were few roads, posed significant logistical challenges to both sides. That the conflict was ultimately a victory for the Commonwealth forces was in due in no small part to the fact that they enjoyed the advantage of vastly superior helicopter resources and better trained crews – many of which were provided by British units. During the Confrontation, many of these vital helicopter assets were flown by pilots and crews who had gained their knowledge and experience firsthand during the Malayan Emergency, one of the Cold War’s first flash-points which had begun in 1948. Without doubt, the Malayan Emergency marked the formative years of the RAF’s and Royal Navy’s helicopter operations – the very early days in fact, when equipment and knowledge were much more basic. It was a time when operational procedures were still under development, even though the helicopters were already being flown on front line service. Told in the main through their own words, by the RAF and Royal Navy air and ground crews involved, this is the story of how these ‘guinea pigs’ undertook many of Britain’s first rotary wing combat operations and, therefore, cemented their rightful place in the history of the helicopter.

Book excerpt: "At a time when each Society had its own medium of propogation of its researches ... in the form of Transactions, Proceedings, Journals, etc., a need was strongly felt for bringing out a journal devoted exclusively to the study and advancement of Indian culture in all its aspects. [This] encouraged Jas Burgess to launch the 'Indian antiquary' in 1872. The scope ... was in his own words 'as wide as possible' incorporating manners and customs, arts, mythology, feasts, festivals and rites, antiquities and the history of India ... Another laudable aim was to present the readers abstracts of the most recent researches of scholars in India and the West ... 'Indian antiquary' also dealt with local legends, folklore, proverbs, etc. In short 'Indian antiquary' was ... entirely devoted to the study of MAN - the Indian - in all spheres ..."--Introduction to facsimile volumes, published 1985

Book excerpt: From Sean Connery to Roy Rogers, from comedy to political satire, films that include espionage as a plot device run the gamut of actors and styles. More than just "spy movies," espionage films have evolved over the history of cinema and American culture, from stereotypical foreign spy themes, to patriotic star features, to the Cold War plotlines of the sixties, and most recently to the sexy, slick films of the nineties. This filmography comprehensively catalogs movies involving elements of espionage. Each entry includes release date, running time, alternate titles, cast and crew, a brief synopsis, and commentary. An introduction analyzes the development of these films and their reflection of the changing culture that spawned them.
