Book excerpt: The artiste is back with another splurge of poems hidden within the shadows of independent culture. Into the fading shadows upsprings light and postfuturistic hope. In a continuous world of depression and suicide fads, we need to work together as a community to end the oppression by being strong within ourselves and believing in whatever each of us as individuals believe in. We need to fight against the stereotypes and adult bullying and start appreciating one another for our uniqueness. It’s mental wellness with we in it, and the cure starts with us caring about ourselves first. Here is the fourth book, Ground Zero (2019), following Treasures of Light & Darkness (2014), Of Jewels and Gems (2015), and Sliver Moon (2019).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection records epiphanies, instances of poetry, moments of “extraordinary ordinary” insights that have happened to me in the course of living my life as usual over the past year —the events that occurred in it concentrated and highlighted even more by the Coronavirus pandemic. These are moments when the mind and spirit abstracts from everyday objects, situations and chains of events seminal and universal truths about our existence as sentient creatures evolved to awareness over the process of thirteen billion years — moments when we are dumbstruck with awe, or are startled into wonder, joy and compassion —moments when we see our breathless possibilities and our daunting limitations. I invite you to share them with me.
Book Synopsis Reds, Whites, and Blues by : William G. Roy
Download or read book Reds, Whites, and Blues written by William G. Roy and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2013-12-26 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Music, and folk music in particular, is often embraced as a form of political expression, a vehicle for bridging or reinforcing social boundaries, and a valuable tool for movements reconfiguring the social landscape. Reds, Whites, and Blues examines the political force of folk music, not through the meaning of its lyrics, but through the concrete social activities that make up movements. Drawing from rich archival material, William Roy shows that the People's Songs movement of the 1930s and 40s, and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s implemented folk music's social relationships--specifically between those who sang and those who listened--in different ways, achieving different outcomes. Roy explores how the People's Songsters envisioned uniting people in song, but made little headway beyond leftist activists. In contrast, the Civil Rights Movement successfully integrated music into collective action, and used music on the picket lines, at sit-ins, on freedom rides, and in jails. Roy considers how the movement's Freedom Songs never gained commercial success, yet contributed to the wider achievements of the Civil Rights struggle. Roy also traces the history of folk music, revealing the complex debates surrounding who or what qualified as "folk" and how the music's status as racially inclusive was not always a given. Examining folk music's galvanizing and unifying power, Reds, Whites, and Blues casts new light on the relationship between cultural forms and social activity.

Book Synopsis Where Is My Flying Car? by : J. Storrs Hall
Download or read book Where Is My Flying Car? written by J. Storrs Hall and published by Stripe Press. This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From an engineer and futurist, an impassioned account of technological stagnation since the 1970s and an imaginative blueprint for a richer, more abundant future The science fiction of the 1960s promised us a future remade by technological innovation: we’d vacation in geodesic domes on Mars, have meaningful conversations with computers, and drop our children off at school in flying cars. Fast-forward 60 years, and we’re still stuck in traffic in gas-guzzling sedans and boarding the same types of planes we flew in over half a century ago. What happened to the future we were promised? In Where Is My Flying Car?, J. Storrs Hall sets out to answer this deceptively simple question. What starts as an examination of the technical limitations of building flying cars evolves into an investigation of the scientific, technological, and social roots of the economic stagnation that started in the 1970s. From the failure to adopt nuclear energy and the suppression of cold fusion technology to the rise of a counterculture hostile to progress, Hall recounts how our collective ambitions for the future were derailed, with devastating consequences for global wealth creation and distribution. Hall then outlines a framework for a future powered by exponential progress—one in which we build as much in the world of atoms as we do in the world of bits, one rich in abundance and wonder. Drawing on years of original research and personal engineering experience, Where Is My Flying Car?, originally published in 2018, is an urgent, timely analysis of technological progress over the last 50 years and a bold vision for a better future.

Book Synopsis White Cats Can Jump! by : Frederic Donner
Download or read book White Cats Can Jump! written by Frederic Donner and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tales I have written in this book are divergent and strange. Some readers will enjoy many of them, others may only locate one story of interest, but even if only one idea strikes a reader's fancy, my job has been a success. When I was a younger pup, I devoured the fiction publications containing short stories from Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, and Stephen King. Fiction with twisted endings, heroes transformed to villains, with every reader unsure of the outcome. There are no easy outcomes in the repertoires of these stellar authors. I do not claim to have these writers' skills, savvy, or flair for drama, but I do believe there are periodic insights and surprises in the stories you will read here. If even one of you is entertained, then my job is accomplished. "Enjoy the feast," as an author colleague of mine would say. Just be wary of where you left that turkey carving knife and the long-handled and sharpened fork.

Book Synopsis Blazing Star, Setting Sun by : Jeffrey Cox
Download or read book Blazing Star, Setting Sun written by Jeffrey Cox and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-06-25 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From popular Pacific Theatre expert Jeffrey R. Cox comes this insightful new history of the critical Guadalcanal and Solomons campaign at the height of World War II. Cox's previous book, Morning Star, Rising Sun, had found the US Navy at its absolute nadir and the fate of the Enterprise, the last operational US aircraft carrier at this point in the war, unknown. This second volume completes the history of this crucial campaign, combining detailed research with a novelist's flair for the dramatic to reveal exactly how, despite missteps and misfortunes, the tide of war finally turned. By the end of February 1944, thanks to hard-fought and costly American victories in the first and second naval battles of Guadalcanal, the battle of Empress Augusta Bay, and the battle of Cape St George, the Japanese would no longer hold the materiel or skilled manpower advantage. From this point on, although the war was still a long way from being won, the American star was unquestionably on the ascendant, slowly, but surely, edging Japanese imperialism towards its sunset. Jeffrey Cox's analysis and attention to detail of even the smallest events are second to none. But what truly sets this book apart is how he combines this microscopic attention to detail, often unearthing new facts along the way, with an engaging style that transports the reader to the heart of the story, bringing the events on the deep blue of the Pacific vividly to life.

Book Synopsis Snake, Rolling in Hot by : Bud Jones
Download or read book Snake, Rolling in Hot written by Bud Jones and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Snake, Rolling in Hot” is a historical novel about a squadron of Marine Corps helicopter pilots and their crews. It is a true accounting about flying and fighting in Vietnam as well as the training of aircrews before they were sent to Southeast Asia. The combat operations take place in I-Corps in Vietnam and from the decks of navy carriers in the South China Sea. The story also takes a look at some of the wild R & R escapades Marines experienced in Hong Kong, Bangkok, the Philippines and other hot spots around the world. There is also a provocative look at the political scene in the U.S. during the war in Vietnam and how it affected several of the characters in the book in a ways they never thought possible when the war began. With dialog that snaps with electricity and realism, “Snake, Rolling in Hot” takes the reader into the cockpits of Marine choppers during action packed missions flown against the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army. After reading this book, no one will ever feel the same about helicopters and their crews again.
